Random white guy here, the image of Anansi and his sons has been in my head since I was probably 6 or 7. No idea how I came across it and I had no clue what it was from. I'm glad I found it 20 years later, its such a beautiful story.
Yup same, seeing this legit unlocked a core memory it might be one of the oldest I have now. I might’ve been 8 or 9 when a woman from Ghana came and spoke to us about their tales. Old and rich culture, cool to see it again. Thanks for uploading!
The original book got a Caldecot Medal, so I think a lot of us were able to run across it growing up

This is real this is not a folktale/Story. This Spider with a human head (human spider) as I call it appeared to me in my bedroom. It was as huge as the ceiling (giant) with a human head(human skull💀) that was yellow. I thought I was going to die because I thought my heart was going to stop from a heart attack. It left really soon as it appeared to me. Not long after I lost control of my life with depression crippling depression something happened to me I couldn't explain. I didn't know this human spider was the reason my life completely changed until I saw this again as an animation and watched Mary Kay Baxters testimony (she's a Christian) talk about Jesus taking her to hell so she can later testify about it and she said there a Giant bugs in Hell with human heads/skulls that are demons. Then it all clicked for me and knew it was witchcraft/ African voodoo someone did to me. After 11 years I'm finally away from the demonic powers that were controlling my life to ruin it because of this human spider that physically manifested on this earth realm that is actually a DEMON. I knew this human spider was real I just never knew people knew this was real. I am here to expose the devil. This human spider 🕷️ with a human head is actually a DEMON. And ONLY THROUGH JESUS CHRIST CAN YOU DISMANTLE THE DEMONIC POWERS SENT TO DESTROY YOU. The person who wrote this "false tale" KNOWS this is real and they themselves are WITCHES (Practice the craft Witchcraft) and contact evil spirits demons). God is a spirit and in his word he exposed the evil spirits. If it's not God the Holy spirit, then it's witchcraft power from Satan the devil. Read your Bibles God exposed the devil. I wasn't a Christian before this thing happened to me and know it all makes sense. Satan I will expose you and your Kingdom in Jesus name.

My children love this book. I remember reading it as a child and I’m glad to pass these stories on to them and continue the oral traditions that were stolen from us.

I am not from Africa I grew up in Jamaica and Anansi stories is well known on that Island, the colinianist did not allow African people to have books but the African peopl from Ghana taken as slaves to Jamaica still remenber Anansi stories.
I remember seeing this on Reading Rainbow as a kid. Actually my favorite story from that show.
I've find African fable characters like Anansi and Brer Rabbit so fascinating. Stories about tricksters overcoming obstacles while also learning important lessons are just so great. These fables need more recognition.
They best understood what these trickster characters could teach... As the video says at the start, these stories were told to build social cohesion and help people to grow within their communities. Today we look at similar characters as troublemakers or selfish, when African fables realized that tricksters exist to challenge the status quo and help a community establish their moral and ethical boundaries. Witches and witch doctors played a similar role in their society, where the ethical limits of spirituality were defined by the healers and protectors in contrast to practitioners of black magic .
I remember this from my childhood. It brought tears to my eyes just like John Henry. I love sharing these with my child. Thank you for posting❣🙏🏾

It's amazing how I saw this book in my elementary school library and have never forgotten it all these years later, how the name Anansi just popped into my head tonight (spelled it correctly and everything) for me to find this video

Never knew this had an animated adaptation. As a person with parents who are both immigrants from Ghana and my Dad being part Ashanti, this was a story my mom read to me a lot when I was little.

Interesting Africa is a cool place the was beautifuly animated from 1969
I remember this as a kid, and never forgot the stories about Anansi.
I remember this character, he was surprisingly in a lot of cartoons when I was a kid. He's been my favorite mythical character from Africa since childhood.
I loved these tales. Never forgot them and retold them to my own children who remember them til today.

Salvadoran 🇸🇻 here for some weird reason my mother had the book when I was a kid. It's 2am, and the memories suddenly came back. cool book. I hope to buy a copy since the original one I had was lost and share it to the generations that come after me so this story can live on.

How awesome to find this! I remember learning about Anansi the clever spider in elementary school. The story was told by a puppeteer who used African-inspired puppets.

I remember reading anansi stories as a kid. The spider in the thumbnail is the exact picture I remember and the only images of spiders that didn’t terrify me.

Aside from Sun Wukong, Anansi is my favorite mythological character.
An inspiration for the Spider-Man character perhaps considering the trickster aspect and defeating much larger foes.

I’m not African but I’ve only came here because of those conspiracy videos on instagram saying we’re Spider-Man came from and to be honest I’m not saying this out of any disrespect but I personally still choose marvel spider man over this preferably miles morales it’s just my childhood superhero now I do think anansi is cool and all but I have bond with Spider-Man more as a American

I learned about Anansi from reading rainbow when i was a little kid, and in my 20s my friend lent me a book called Anansi Boys and i was like, LIKE THE SPIDER?? She was like HUH? lol
