The story of Ren & Stimpy is a good example of how amazingly complex human beings are. People that we may consider bad can have immense talent that makes them capable of creating tremendous things-incredible (in both a good and a bad way) things that are every bit as complex as they are themselves. Ren and Stimpy keeps a fascinating record of that part of his sociopathic time in life, and the lives of his staff that were compelled to orbit the force of nature he was/is. In my opinion, this isn’t the kind of thing that you can ever scrub from your mind. How can you ever forget when you watch it, when the show is a picture perfect window into his ultimate creative insanity, his soul? I was born in ‘88, so I also grew up with Ren and Stimpy from the beginning, but I’m not sad that the memory has transformed. I think it’s inevitable that we should be exposed to a little social deviance if we want to be truly creative, free-thinking people. Take it with a grain of salt, but in my humble opinion, Ren and Stimpy is enriching in both equal and opposite ways, and I’m grateful it exists for all that it was as is today.

So, if we think about it, he spent every opportunity he was given until he released "Cans without labels".
John K is a human. Human make mistakes, unfortunately at the cost of a few people. It's not an excuse but if John K was any less of John K we wouldn't have what we have now. It is what it is. Extremely creative people and artists have a long history of being lonely, a bit crazy and emotionally unstable. You can trace this back to Michelangelo, Vincent Van Gogh, and almost all the recent creatives in the past 100 years. There are no answers to make this particular problem right. Society don't know how to breed extremely creative life-changing artists without the flaws that comes with them. They happen by mistake from messed-up childhood and in the right place at the right time they will change the world forever. Along the way they will hurt people who are near them like a ball of fire because a ball of fire is what they are and they can't control that. It is very unfortunate.

Yeah, other contries have had their own ups and downs regarding animation, which differ in their timeline from that of the US. The 80's was a lowpoint for american TV cartoons, but for instance Japan and Russia were doing really great stuff at the time.
