i saw a comment on reddit saying that every shot of cynthia and ariana being interviewed looks like a lesbian couple at an ivf appointment and i can't unsee it
Is that something that happens exclusively in US? In Poland the worst theater experience I had was a bunch of teens loudly munching popcorn and commenting during "Dune part II". Do you have people just running up and down isles like a bunch of savages in US of A? Don't you guys have guns?
Theaters aren't dying, corporate cineplexes are dying. Two screen theaters that screen what the choose to are thriving and growing for the first time in forty years.
the idea of singing along at ANY musical (live show or movie) have always been frowned on. this isnt about your main character moment, if you want that - join the crew. people think musicals are like concerts and.. they're not. its story telling with songs, not an interactive show with your favorite musician
I love opera and I can tell you that even there people think they can fucking sing along to the Prisoner's Chorus during Verdi's Nabucco. During an opera! FFS.
Best thing about the poster tantrum was that it was a FAN account with like 2000 followers from Mexico. A very small account who was hyping the movie from day one.
@Four-HundredEl-Beez-yp7nk the wildest part to me was that she found the edit to be the "most offensive thing" and even more offensive than people asking if she got the Shrek lips
Yeah that was a little wild to me, like it’s not that deep and it was an edit to look like the original poster. It’s not even like they changed a lot about it, just made it look like the original and added the iconic red lipstick, it left a bad taste in my mouth for sure.
The most annoying thing about Wicked is how whenever you bring up the Wizard of Oz, someone has to _"um_ _actually!"_ as though Wicked is at all cannon.
That's the difference between you and I... I'd have laughed openly, to he face if possible. I remember when I went to see "Joker" and I was sat beside a dwarf woman in the theatre... I did not hold back when the dwarf jokes came up.
As someone who works at a movie theater, I can definitely confirm that Wicked fans are the worst. The number of complaints we’ve had of people screaming and signing at the top of their lungs in theaters is absurd
I'm glad I'm not going to see it. My family got together over Thanksgiving and we were looking for potentially good movies, but Wicked wasn't on our list.
the one thing i hated about theatre kids is that they usually have a huge ego. so they feel like they have to sing all day everyday to make sure everyone knows they can sing. so the singing during the movie doesn’t surprise me. i’ve had people break out in song randomly in art class cuz they can sing. it’s so weird. UPDATE: i’m not saying every theatre kid is like this but in every scenario there is at least a few! And it ruins it for everyone else that actually enjoys theatre and doesn’t want to fuel their ego. I love theatre and i love the Wicked movie. it was brilliant. But i know there is a time and a place to sing. it’s common sense.
I remember absolutely hating being in choir because it was heavily theatre kid dominated and the choir teacher thought they could do no wrong. They were the biggest group of bullies as well.
I was a theatre kid in high school. I LOVED theatre culture and HATED it in equal measure. The singing is fun if you and a bunch of your friends can actually sing - going and doing karaoke, going and seeing their bands play, etc is a blast.... but you're definitely not wrong about the appropriateness of the venue. There were a *LOT* of those people, who think singing loudly in public is not only fine, but makes them look cool. Theatre is simultaneously one of my favorite memories and often one of my cringiest.
Every time you make a video one of these fandoms its just a fresh reminder of the sheer number of people in the world that really dont have any real problems
IMO this like shouting spells and quoting Hermione in Harry Potter, or acting like Gollum during LotR. Both of which I have seen. Someone always ruins a movie.
Social media has destroyed modesty. Because it’s not so much the fact that they’re crying about it, it’s the fact that they want to record themselves doing it. As if Ariana Grande is going to watch your spaz attack in the middle of a movie theatre and say, “Wow they must be my biggest fan, I’m going to reach out to them and tell them how amazing and special they are.” This world is breaking me one day at a time🤣
It reminds me of that meme of the girl crying and screaming in her car over elections on tiktok. Youre sitting in a parking lot and you see this girl crying and wailing into her phone and then abruptly stops dead to see if she got the angle she wanted before starting to cry and scream again for some reshoots.
I dunno what is worse - the fact that they think what you wrote about Ariana is gonna happen, or their delusive vision of them becoming the next tik tok, or whatever, star in an ocean of the same crying videos... one has to give it to the producers of this movie: the hype train that they have "made" is basically really close to what a "perpetum mobile" is like - it is honestly a hype train masterpiece

It isn't a prequel to Wizard of Oz ...its a fanfic. The author, L. Frank Baum, didn't need to try to rationalize the Wicked Witch's motivation. Nor did he have any motivation to do so. He died in 1919, before even the movie was an idea, let alone the toxic entitled fanbase a CENTURY later.
when i watched it, the theater kid right next to me was singing off-key, and screamed at every single big moment. thankfully i was at alamo drafthouse so she got kicked out lol
holy shit i went there to watch wicked and got thr same experience lmfao but she almost got the cops called on her because she was literally fightijg with the staff for being annoying
All this feels like social engineering. All the crying during interviews, the supposedly candid moments of saying the same things and recreating movie moments, the TikTok videos of people crying, all of it. Before this movie, I never heard anything about Wicked (the play) being emotional. Now it's everywhere. The marketing on display here is incredible.
I was thinking the same. (Not psyops; just a PR / marketing stunt to have all this chatter around something that isn't that special really. It's so subtle all the social media heads don't even realise they're part of the marketing campaign. Even this channel) It's all so fake feeling, there's no way anyone would need to cry at everything that much. The poster rant felt like a peak behind the curtain (pun intended! 😂)
Bro, I was a musical theatre student that got to see Wicked TWICE on Broadway and I can understand people crying at the musical because live performances tend to be more emotionally captivating, but also this movie is just THE FIRST ACT BRUH. SHE FULLY REALIZES HER POWER AND THEN FUCKS OFF UNTIL ACT 2, ITS NOT SCHINDLERS LIST
Responding to that PSA saying that you're going to sing no matter what is so genuinely self-absorbed and narcissistic. It's saying that you're the main character and nobody else's experience matters.
I too cried at the movie, but not because it was soooo emotional, but because some scenes and songs were so very nostalgic. I performed some of the songs on stage myself in an amateur school-musical years ago and I`ve seen the show more than once. I would never even think about singing along?!?! How am I supposed to experience and enjoy the performance, when I am too busy doing karaoke?!?!?
This just really makes me want Trey Parker and Matt Stone to make The Book of Mormon into a movie. Call it part 1. Make it exactly 2 hours and wrap up the entire show in the first part and NEVER acknowledge that they aren't making a part 2
something even funnier about the theater kids gatekeeping the Wicked franchise, is that the broadway musical didnt even come first, it was based off the original Wicked novel written by Gregory Maguire. its a never ending cycle.
At this point the press run is reminding me of Rick & Morty when Rick is stuck w Summer in the society of only women who yeet the men into the wastelands.
no one is gatekeeping it. go see it and judge for yourself, its a fantastic movie. perfect for the holidays, for the whole family to enjoy. I'm not really a musical theatre fan and i thought it was amazing. the visuals and the energy was EPIC

I really cannot emphasize with 2 multi-millionaire women that think they are somehow looked down upon by society and are underprivileged when they made more money in a few months filming this movie than I will likely in my entire lifetime.

@@cosmic_heartz6480 I can't. Like honestly, I am over the idea that people are oppressed in their mansions because some others have issues with them. Do they think us normal people never have issues like that? The difference is, nobody gives a shit and we can't preach to the media or act dramatic about it in our luxury lives.
Normal people can't comprehend how insanely narcissistic and deluded the average actor/actress is. They have turned victim complex and severe personality disorder into something ret@rds admire and look up to. It doesn't make me dislike people cause most normal people aren't even using social media for anything other than keeping in touch with people and keeping their private life to themselves. 26:00 spoiler warning: you are correct as far as the musical is concerned. however, she is indeed melted in the book. her bathing routine includes oil instead of water as far as I remember. she’s ostracized for a lot of peculiarities, not just her skin’s color.
26:00 Fun fact from someone who watched the broadway musical: The Witch doesn't die in the end of the musical, the tin man checks after Dorothy splashes her with the bucket, and it's shown that Elphaba was in a trap door.
There’s a great video about how toxic positivity has essentially made Hollywood a total cringe fest and I have to agree. Everyone in Hollywood is so busy going down on each other and telling everybody how talented and beautiful they are that they have officially become those annoying theater kids that literally everybody wanted to bully, even the bullied kids.
So what exactly they are crying about? Ngl, I’m that kind of audience that easily cry at particular scenes in movies and tv series, but I only do that when I’m alone, I can contain myself when I’m in movie theatres. So i don’t understand how can so many people cry this much after a movie 😂😂

Funny thing about the poster, as someone who has never seen the show, not seeing the eyes with a bright red smirk communicated so much more about the character than cynthia "staring down the barrel of the camera" The original and by extension the fan edit having hidden eyes and a big smirk has a feel of something sinister, wicked even, lurking and waiting to reveal itself The official poster she just looks like a stroppy child who was told to smile for a family photo, stomped her foot and said "no"
It’s even funnier because she went “when we can’t communicate with our words, we do it with our eyes” and it’s like, no, eyes are only a part of nonverbal communication. Can she not read facial expressions?
Worked with some of the supporting artists from this film recently and they told me how poorly all of the extras were treated. So many people got injured and they had to have their union come down to set in order to bring working standards to a legal level
The way some “grown adults” have acted over a movie is just sad man. The people who are just blatantly saying that they’re still going to sing no matter what is just childish.
If someone was to sing while at the actual show oh im shoving something down their throats. I paid to hear a professional not a basement dweller singing along because they want to be the center of attention
The funniest thing is that the musical Wicked is based off a book that isn't even canon to the original Wizard of Oz books. It's basically a fanfic novel that the author came up with trying to explore the idea of "the nature of evil". The creator of the musical just happened to come across the novel one day and thought it could be a good musical.
Thank god for that, to think of all the dark subject matter in the OG Novels and then go to the Wicked book, not to mention Return To Oz "Come here...Chickennn!!!"
@@barahng Evil as an independent thing doesn't exist, it only "exists" when humans call certain actions or people evil. Given this, Wicked does a pretty good job showing that "evil" people are the consequences of their experiences and desires. That's what makes us do anything good or bad. There is no reason to be proud of your achievements big or small and no reason to feel guilty about your wrongdoings big or small, all that matters is deciding to do the next right thing in this moment and planning to continue doing so. I dont think the fans were upset that the movie poster didn't look the same as the poster from the stage show. They just decided to have a little fun with photoshop and did some light hearted editing to make the new poster resemble the original....it's just a way to pass the time and be slightly creative. It was Cynthia Erivo, that made a huge deal of it and acted like the fans had done something awful by daring to hide her eyes in shadow.

I actually currently work at the theater, we’ve had to go in before to stop a few people from screaming and singing when customers complain. However, there’s a point at which if too many people are signing, there’s nothing we can do. I remember seeing the movie after getting off of my shift, went to go see it with my ma and pa. We had this one lady who would NOT stop screaming every five seconds, laughing at nothing, and just being awful. Took me a second to realize it was just me, my family, and the ladies family in the theater. I was ready to go get up and report it (keep in mind, this was after my shift, so I’m still in theater uniform, could’ve asked them to stop myself technically…didn’t wanna be rude though.) however, upon further inspection, the lady looked awfully similar to one of my managers. That was…not something I was willing to risk, the awkward conversation of me reporting my manager in the theater…sooo…I sucked it up. It wasn’t till the very end that I realized it wasn’t one of my managers. So..I got to spend almost 3 hours with a lady laughing her ass off for no reason, screaming “YES!” And more…not fun…movie was ok in my opinion.

I have heard little people/those with Dwarfism refer to "midget" as the "m" word. Many don't like that term because they consider it offensive or dehumanizing
@@boogereater112 But I've also heard of plenty who seem to find that word perfectly palatable. In fact, the term "little people" can often be considered rather offensive and dehumanizing in it's own right. I think the best way to think of this discussion is to realize... We don't know all the damn answers. Technically speaking neither term is inherently wrong to use, outside of whatever personal opinion or perspective that individual takes. That isn't a viable path to take in regards to public communication, because the meaning attached to the words isn't concrete. The theater kids hate the book that came out first and is a million times better. It's grimdark, the wizard is a genocidal dictator.. elphaba's boyfriend is captured, tortured and his body displayed so she can see it from her castle, then she dies by Dorthy who was sent on a suicide mission to kill Elphaba and has no real context or idea as to wtf is really happening. I am not a theater kid, and i MUCH prefer the musical. it just has to do with preferences. I like stories that are told well through music, you like grimdark stories. neither is better or worse
I read the books. Don't agree that they're great. You praise grim dark as tho it alone makes something great. Grim dark is called such for a reason. Not because it intrinsically has value or makes something better.

This makes me both excited for and dread watching Sonic 3 in theatres this December. The movie is bringing Shadow's backstory and has an actress who is going to play Maria. Sonic fans have a tendency to cheer when Maria gets shot (to the point that it's a meme in itself). The trailer also has a scene that is reminiscent of Eggman's "I have an announcement" meme from Snapcube. It's gonna be both fun as a Sonic fan and cringe as a patron in the theatre.
I'm just imagining some random change to the canon of the Sonic Movie timeline where Maria doesn't get shot and dies from her illness, and the fans being disappointed as hell that some poor kid doesn't get shot so they can't cheer. 😂 But really though I've been in the Sonic fandom for a while and I somehow didn't get the memo that we're supposed to cheer at that scene? I haven't seen it happen, either. When did this start?
I just always wait a few weeks before seeing a movie. Not only are tickets cheaper, but you can get any seat you want cause there will be like 4 other people
Makes me glad to have watched this at Alamo Drafthouse. They have a no tolerance policy on breaking theater etiquette. As a theatre kid myself, I’m appalled at the entitlement some Wicked fans are having, thinking they’re more important than everyone else in the audience.
I heard time warp on the radio the other day and was having a blast singing to it in the car. My first thought was "oh I HAVE to show my son this movie, he'll love the songs" and then the movie itself started flooding back to me and I realised I probably shouldn't have been watching it at like 6 or 7 myself 😅
Another screening you can go is Tommy Wiseau's The Room. People would dress up in suits and play football during the movie, and say the most memorable lines at the same time as the movie. It was very fun to riff on the movie irl with a movie crowd.
As a theater nerd (kick me), etiquette is very important to us. You never sing with the people on stage. You laugh when you're supposed to laugh, clap when you are supposed to clap, and any other time you're sitting in your seat and shutting up
As another former theatre kid, absolutely correct, but our side of the bargain is to withstand the urge to be insufferable in public at every opportunity.
@@BlueProphet7 must agree. the people singing in the theatres are not "theatre kids" they are the "theatre Divas" that all the other theatre kids also hate. The ones who threw fits if they didn't get the lead (and they never did because they usually sucked so it was a public tantrum next to the cast list every year) and then they would be outwardly hostile towards the kids who did get good parts and loudly sing the solos before practice because they think the director is going to hear them and realize his grave error and give them the part or some shit.
My wife still does theatre, and I get dragged (i don’t do well in crowds) to shows and movies pretty often. I’m in a LOT of audiences. Over the past 2 years I’d say I’ve been to roughly 20 shows and many movies in the theatre on top if that. Of all of those times, probably 90% of the time someone is obnoxiously disruptive throughout the show. Most of the time (not always) its older adults though. Boomers think the world is their’s and continue to piss on everything in life, nothing new. Theatre kids tend to stfu. The difference is many theatre kids like to show off to other theatre kids. Get more than two in a room and you could not stop them from singing at gunpoint. I’ve been to the cast parties, I feel your pain.
The person who did the poster edit wasn't even upset about the movie poster being different. They just did a little edit for fun and the actress decided to take it as a personal insult. This isn’t even the first time she blew up at fan content either. She blew up after seing a fancast for a hypothetical Disney's Hercules remake that placed her as one of the muses.

They originally rewrote it to feature six non-little person actors and one little person for good measure. The only time I have had a visceral and audible reaction in the theater was during Long Legs. For the beginning when he does the first jumpscare and the sound sting cues, I yelped way louder than intended since it was a genuiely good jumpscare. the one thing i hated about theatre kids is that they usually have a huge ego. so they feel like they have to sing all day everyday to make sure everyone knows they can sing. so the singing during the movie doesn’t surprise me. i’ve had people break out in song randomly in art class cuz they can sing. it’s so weird.
I’m special
I was a theatre kid in high school. I LOVED theatre culture and HATED it in equal measure. The singing is fun if you and a bunch of your friends can actually sing - going and doing karaoke, going and seeing their bands play, etc is a blast.... but you're definitely not wrong about the appropriateness of the venue. There were a *LOT* of those people, who think singing loudly in public is not only fine, but makes them look cool.

What an unfortunate fucking situation 💀

As a former theatre kid, I’m gatekeeping cause this would never fly in a REAL wicked broadway showing. These “theatre kids” are all posers, you shouldn’t sing at a show, you’re the audience not the actor. They out of all people should know proper theater etiquette.
You watch adults dress up and jump around, behave yourself
@ “as a former theatre kid” do you know what former means?
I know you would like to believe that the people singing at these theaters are fake theatre kids but I am sure that some of them who were, were actual theatre kids. This is less of a "fake theatre kid" issue and more of social media ruining etiquette as a whole.
@TheWhiteDwarfReal movies share that same definition.
Ok but is it green though?
20:57 Peter Dinklage pulled the ladder up and complained about representation of midgets as mythical dwarves and 7 actors lost their roles in the film because of it that's why. funny enough I think he plays a mythical goat character in Wicked, because of course he does.
It's just a matter of speaking freely and pivoting respectfully on a case to case basis.
@ Yeah, people take offense to different terms, I just wanted to pass along what I recently learned in case someone else didn't know. Thank you for sharing!

Great book
I never knew that
I am not a theater kid, and i MUCH prefer the musical. it just has to do with preferences. I like stories that are told well through music, you like grimdark stories. neither is better or worse
I read the books. Don't agree that they're great. You praise grim dark as tho it alone makes something great. Grim dark is called such for a reason. Not because it intrinsically has value or makes something better.
I read it a lomg time ago and one thing i always knew wouldnt make it to the stage was the guy who got f* by a tiger.

As much as I laugh at the jokes of fans cheering, I too dread that it will actually happen.
If anyone cheers during the Maria death scene, I think non Sonic fans are gonna be afraid.
I'm glad I gave up Sonic after the Genesis era
I'm just imagining some random change to the canon of the Sonic Movie timeline where Maria doesn't get shot and dies from her illness, and the fans being disappointed as hell that some poor kid doesn't get shot so they can't cheer. 😂
But really though I've been in the Sonic fandom for a while and I somehow didn't get the memo that we're supposed to cheer at that scene? I haven't seen it happen, either. When did this start?
Oh boy..Just try to go at earlier showings(10am-1pm) or later showings(9pm) or something idk.
If you want to go sing in the middle of a film, go see Rocky Horror Picture Show. You can sing and yell all you want there
That was my thought exactly. The showings are basically held for that single purpose. Do kids these days even know what rhps is?
@ well, the show has a lot of 18+ themes, so maybe not yet, but I know a lot of people my age do and I’d say I’m fairly young in my adult life still
I heard time warp on the radio the other day and was having a blast singing to it in the car.

The ones who threw fits if they didn't get the lead (and they never did because they usually sucked so it was a public tantrum next to the cast list every year) and then they would be outwardly hostile towards the kids who did get good parts and loudly sing the solos before practice because they think the director is going to hear them and realize his grave error and give them the part or some shit.
you're the REAL nerd, not just a narcissist who took the class as an excuse to act out. not a theatre kid but I was friends with a couple of real ones
Yeah these mfkers giving us a bad name lol

They made CGI dwarves because Peter Dinklage freaked out on Twitter about there being dwarves in caves (they are literally miners) and Disney responded by firing all the dwarf actors
They originally rewrote it to feature six non-little person actors and one little person for good measure. Then that caused its own controversy for a multitude of reasons and they re-shot it to feature the dwarves, but in CG. Now THIS is bringing back attention that they still didn’t cast little people. This whole situation has just been a s**tshow from day one.
