      Yea... I’m definitely a huge fan of the base version and have been playing it on and off for the past 7 years.
      I was aware of the other versions but didn’t take much interest until I bought the app a year ago and started playing seafarers.
      Then, just recently, a friend of mine was explaining cities and knights which led me to watching multiple videos on TH-cam ( obviously including this one. )
      Now I’m ready to try it out on the app and start training so I’m ready for real-time play against my friends.

      @@NightsAroundaTable Yea, that’s what I’ve noticed. The nice thing is that there is something to like about all 3 versions.
      Still in the learning stage with C&K. Reminds me of when I first started playing Catan and how I thought there was quite a bit of complexity to it - eventually I became very comfortable with the gameplay and I have no doubt the same will happen with C&K. Your Overview of the game and descriptions were definitely helpful.
      It’ll be interesting to see how my wife takes on learning it. Haven’t taught her seafarers yet but that shouldn’t be much of an adjustment compared to C&K. (Although some learn faster than others)
      Thanks for creating this video and walking “Catanians” through the gameplay.

    There is a question.
    The barbarian powers were 5
    And the power of red 2
    And the powers of white and blue 1
    And the strength of orange is 0
    This means that we were unable to defeat the barbarians. Well, the oranges didn't have an active knight, but they didn't have a city, just settlements. In this case, will nothing happen or will Blue and White lose their cities?
    The other question.
    Blue has two level 1 knights
    Red has a level 1 knight and also a level 2 knight
    Blue used the Fugitive Card on Red.
    Red wants to give Blue a level 1 knight but Blue has two level 1 knights.
    Question: Should Red be forced to give Blue a level 2 knight or prevent Blue from using this card on Red?

    See 16:17. We played this expansion of Catan last night and came across a scenario that we were no sure of. One of the players had a robber placed on his 8 and an 8 was rolled. Does he still collect a resource of his choice in this case due to the robber? I'm guessing he does as it states on level 3 that "If you receive NO production on a turn and the roll is not a '7' you may take 1 resource of your choice" Any ideas?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว

      A close reading of the 5th Ed rules reveals that you get the extra resource if “you do not receive any resources or commodities” (except on a 7 roll). Earlier rulebooks may have worded it “if your cities and settlements don’t produce…” in which case you could argue that they DID produce, but the robber took the stuff. But the latest rules are clear: production doesn’t matter. If you didn’t receive anything, you get to take something!

      Hi, Gina. When you roll the three dice, you have to resolve the event die first before you do anything with the other two dice, or take any further steps on your turn. That means that if the event die is a black ship, and the barbarians make landfall, they attack, and there's nothing you can do to mitigate the attack between rolling that die and suffering its effects! So batten down the hatches while you still can. :)

    Can’t find the answer anywhere so does anyone know if metropolis’s add to the barbarian strength? For example, there are 4 cities on the board with 1 city having a metropolis. Is the barbarian strength 4, for the 4 cities, or 5, for the 4 cities and 1 metropolis? Furthermore, if that city with a metropolis is sacked down to a settlement, is the strength now 4, for the 3 cities and 1 metropolis, or 3, for just the 3 cities?
    One other question I have is before the first barbarian attack when a 7 is rolled we instead move the barbarian ship towards Catan along the track. If the black ship is rolled as well as a 7, do we move the black ship 2 steps towards Catan? And after the first attack, do we still move it 2 steps to Catan if the black ship is rolled with a 7?

    What happens if you build a second metropolis but don’t have a second city to build it on top of?
    Let’s say for example, I have built a metropolis by reaching the 4th city improvement in the yellow trade city improvements.
    I only have one city and it has a metropolis on it.
    But now I am the first to reach the 4th city improvement in the green science city improvements which would allow me to build a second metropolis. But I don’t have a second city!
    What happens then?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - the road was interrupted, but the white player can keep building onto it, because that single west-end road has sort of "escaped." If the knight had been in place and the white player had built over to it, the knight would block white's further westward development.

      @@NightsAroundaTable right. which is why I prefer the base game the most. I haven't played much C&K so maybe I should give it a chance before sticking to the basegame. But when I read comments about how C&K is so much better than the basegame and it's the best expansion pack, I'm like 'wuhhh?' Do you prefer C&K to the basegame? if so, why? just curious.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tochiRTA There are a few "problems" C&K addresses. One is the runaway leader issue: once someone pulls ahead in Catan, it's very hard for anyone else to catch up, because everything that's built stays built. C&K introduces roads, knights, and cities that can all be removed from the board, so none of those are a done deal. And i think people probably like the added strategic dimension that knights pose. It's just another thing to think about, in a game where some players don't feel there's enough to think about.
