Ok just a quick tip to getting the electrical plug out (since every video skips it for some reason) push the plug towards the purge valve, pull the tab, and pull the plug out. Took me 45 mins and a call to my local dealer to get the damn thing off.
Put a flat head screwdriver into the slot ontop, and give it a gentle 90 degree twist, leave the screwdriver in, then pull the connector off. That is the normal way to take those off. If you can find a connection with that clip facing you (because the N80's faces down, and you can't see it) you can see exactly how it works.
Awesome! Very clear, step-by-step instructions for DIYers. The "check the fuel cap" is what I have got recently, after a bunch of vacuum leak, lean mixture, purge valve failure issues. Now for sure to replace this one, and thanks to your video I know where to find it and how to do it. Thanks a lot, mate!
Great video! I fast forwarded through the video and missed the hose clamp part when I watched. That cost me half an hour extra to go and get hose clamps. So for anyone that's replacing the valve the first time, make sure you have some small hose clamps on hand.
Thanks for the great video. Just changed my N80 valve and this video helped a lot. Off to the mechanic tomorrow to have the CEL reset and hopefully fixes the problem.
Correct me if I'm wrong. If you connect a vacuum pump to either side of that valve and pump it to about 15, if the valve diaphragm inside is good isn't it supposed to hold the vac pressure, and if it's bad the pressure will slowly drop? I'm getting P2187 & P0507 codes and have checked everything else that could be related, and they all seem OK. I saw another video using the vac test, and mine isn't holding the vac pressure from either side even though my VAGCOM says the solenoid is functioning OK, and I can hear it clicking.
My GTI do the same. Bop bop bop sounds from Exhaust doesn’t sound constantly. It has fluctuations. And when you are sit or touch the engine you can feel little movements like spasms
Wish you would have showed an isolated Zoomed In video showing how you released the MAF sensor connector at the backend of the Air Box cover. I have a 2007 Passat Wolfsburg and can’t remove the electric sensor connector. Help with advice if you can.
2012 VW Passat B7 model. Throwing P2450 code after initially throwing P2402 Code for Leak Detection Pump. I’ve already changed with new Dorman Leak Detection Pump , reset codes with Carista, drove several hundred miles but check engine back on and throwing P2450 code “Evap Emission system switching performance stuff open “. Any suggestions? Also what is a N40 valve?
My 2010 Tiguan has a clicking sound coming from under the hood. No check engine light is on though. I saw this video and the previous video of how a bad n80 valve will sound and my car doesn't have a similar sound. anyway to make the check engine like come on manually so I can pop an obII reader on there and check for codes?
Hello. I have a 2010 cc 2.0t the vacuum on idle is 27 hg stady Im replacing the purge valve the injector one got stock open. And the pcv oil separator cover I got a p0101 and replaced the maf sensor and didn't fix the code but then the injector got stoke open and make it worst. The intake has an excesive amount of oil. My concern is if 27 of vaccum is normal for this engine?
Hey man, great video. Question for you, one end of the line has the hard plastic type of hose. Can I use that standard rubber tubing in the video and screw clamps over the hard plastic and then to the N80 valve?
I got code P0445 on my 2007 Audi A3 8P 2.0t FSI, do you think this valve would be the solution to the code? I watched your other video on symptoms of the N80 valve going ad and I believe that to be the noise I heard when I popped the hood. It has the normal fuel injector tick but there's something louder and abnormal from what I've heard from my engine. Any feedback is appreciated, thank you for the video.
I have the same car same noise. Getting a new n80 and swapping it today! If you've gotten a check fuel cap light on the dash that is another symptom. If the clicking noise sounds like it's coming from the thottle body or fuel pump area bingo
Hi, thanks for the video. I have an 08 VW Jetta tfsi 147kw, it goes extreamly well, however if I drive in d and not s mode, and if I'm kind to it, it miss fires, however when I drive it hard it gets up to 100klm very quickly. Anyhow, I have inbuilt diagnosis tool, anyway, when I run a check, it says incorrect purge, causing misfire. I changed all my plugs with genuine vw jetta ones, and also the coil packs.. I guess what I'm asking, can this purge valve be the problem?
I have n80 oe: 06H906517H and i want to know if other valves with similar oe part numbers will work to replace it ie: 06H906517AE, 06H906517T, 06H906517K.
Any video on MK7 purge valve installation? Recently started getting a message that my gas cap is loose. Checked my gas cap and it looked fine. However, ended up getting a new gas cap which felt a bit better and made a solid click sound while closing, whereas the old one didn’t, even though the car has only 30k miles on it. Unfortunately, cel is still on even after changing the gas cap but I’m in thinking it’s because I never reset the light after changing the gas cap. OBD is coming next week so I can reset the light but I would still like to change the purge valve just in case and hoping to get some guidance or a video. Much appreciated!
Hey there DAP - great video. Is this what's causing my gas tank to thump? I have a 2006 Audi A3 2.0T. When I take off the gas cap, there's always a "giant sucking sound" (not to be confused with the Ross Perot line) and if I leave it off, it no longer makes noise and I have much better performance.... I also have trouble filling up the tank (it usually gets increasingly hard after 5 gallons). I've seen other videos that could lead me to believe the charcoal canister - or that line - is somehow plugged with crap. The car sat for 2 years before I purchased it.
Hey. Help me with my problem please. I have a Volkswagen Jetta mk5 2,5 , constantly there is an error 0411 when I start it in the morning. How to fix my car, and what it takes. Thank you in advance. Help me please, ANSWER MY LETTER.
what are the implication if any of just leaving a broken evap valve in place? why would we care about gas fumes being circulated into the intake manifold etc.?
When you remove the valve should you be able to blow air right through it or not? I got a p0 300 code but there seen to be no vaccum leaks i already check all around the hose no hising sounds either coulds this be my problem
@@KompleteAss i put new coils and spark plugs and kept getting misfire codes did it the old fashing way every coil was working properly as i start the car and unplug them one by one then i decide it to blow smoke into the engine and discover that the intercooling hose and wastegate of the turbo was lose and had about and inch gap and a lot of play install a new one problem solve car runs amazing now
i have a 2008 VW jetta and when i start my car it makes a rapid clicking sound that sounds like it is coming from the passenger air bag. it will stop but whenever i put the car in reverse it does the rapid clicking sound again. is this the purge value or possible the anti shudder valve... my car won't start once i put gas in it, i have to continue to start it which takes a while. any help would be great appreciated.
Just picked up a 2016 Golf R, the car has been throwing EVAP codes from about 300 miles to now (860 miles). I took it to the dealer, the replaced the gas cap. Code came back a few days later. VAG COM says "Very small leak detected" in the EVAP system. Do you think it could be this valve? I'm not sure if this valve is used on the new Golf R's.
I'm trying to do this, and having a hard time getting the valve off, it seems to be stuck in the two hoses pretty good. I almost think it would be easier to just cut the 2 hoses off completely, and get to similar sized hoses, spray them with some lube, and replace em and clamp em down. Where could I buy new hoses? I mean they're just small pieces of rubber. ---or is that just not a good idea at all, and i should just man up and find a way to yank the old valve out? thanks for the video!
Mine was the same. you just gotta muscle it man. or maybe cut through the tubing. i think i might have ended up cutting some off. but be conservative cuz youre gonna need to put the new one in there
just did mine today on a 05 Beetle convertible..Just have to muscle the hose off each end, make sure you unplug the electric connection first....also, cut those factory clamps off and use small screw on clamps on the new valve...will make it easier next time you have to change it....I guess these things go out often....good luck...so far, P0455 code was cleared and CEL is off with changing this valve and putting a new gas cap on...i'm hopeful....$71 for both parts and some elbow grease.....well worth it...I saw someone say the dealer wanted $600 to change this valve? that is insane....
I don't have the exact error code but did receive the following description when car was scanned "Evaporate Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit High" does this mean just the valve needs to be replaced.
Did you get this sorted in the end? I think swapping the whole charcoal cannister would solve the issue in 95% of cases - failing that a smoke test could spot a leak
I have all symptoms except I have 3 engine codes, p0171, p0442, p0455 so I might try this regardless becuase I definitely here a loud click when it is in idle
HELP! My N80 is working, but the cable that gives it power just gives 10.6V instead of 12V what can I do?! the rest of the engine components seem to work.
Im sorry but we are not certain if you should see 12v t the valve or not. Also keep in mind that this is a pulsed signal so depending on your meter it may no measure the full voltage. More importantly you should use the Vagcom output test mode to see if it clicks.
Deutsche Auto Parts- Your Source for Everything VW and Audi I have the P0441 code, so I thought my N80 was stuck or damaged so I cleaned with WD-40 and put 12V with a charger and worked (I heard the click and the valve opened) so that was not the problem, then I checked the cable that gives it power and it just gives it 10.6V instead of the 12V so it does not power up, so is the cable damaged? or the relay? (all fuses are good)
***** It is possible you have a wiring problem but this is not likely. If you are unsure where to go from here you should consider bringing your vehicle to a VW specialist to have them properly diagnose it.
probably not voltage problem, the reason I am saying this is you can use a square 9 volt battery to apply voltage when testing the small 9v battery like goes in alot of remotes on rc car transmitters and the older transistor radios.
I was getting a P0455 fault code evaporative emission system leak detected (large leak) I replaced the cap and cleared the code. after a few miles check engine light returned. I got p0455 again. also my sympton was hard to start after putting in fuel and rough idle for a few seconds right after refueling.
Massively well done video! Congrats! I do have a question, would you believe replacing the N80 valve would be a good fix for Code P0455 EVAP Large Leak on a Passat B6? Thank you heaps for taking the time to read my question!
Ismanuel Macias It could very well be the problem. N80 valves generally cause small leak codes but could cause a large leak. Either way its likely the best place to start if you don't have the proper equipment to diagnose an evap leak.
Boy was taking this thing off a bitch with those one time clamps. I have the Mk6R and it was even worse because of the diverter valve right next to it. So limited room so I had to find a way to take off that sensor upside down to remove it to clear some room to jiggle the n80 out of that left hose. Took me about 2 hours lol
Tried to do the same in A4 B8, pretty fuck3d up system with those plastic hoses. The valve should be replaced ONLY with plastic hose set, otherwise you wont be able to stick it back in because old one is really stuck and if you cut the pipe then you have to expand the plastic. Audi technology = pain in the ass.
Hi Paul, i have seen this article from you and i could not ask you a question on that website about replacing my own valve at my 2010 2.0 tfsi Audi a3. shopdap.com/check-gas-cap-light-on-vw-and-audi-2-0t-tsi-engine/ My question is: I've seen lots of videos where people easily replace the evap valve as in this one. But no video shows how to replace my valve (which is the same you posted in that article, with all the hosing attached). The thing is that i cant remove my valve because the right side, let's call it the "exit pipe", is kind of stuck with a very hard plastic hose i cant remove. Afterwords i realized that this valve is sold with all the hosing included, what made me believe that this one, as the vw gti one, has to be replaced not just the valve but the hose connector to the air intake itself. Is that right? or is it right to try to separate de valve from that hard plastic hose? If not, do you have a DIY video or step by step guide as to how to replace it? As it seems to be far more difficult that just replacing the valve. Thanks!

Will this problem cause a p0171 code? That code is really a pain in the arse
I’m getting the same dam code did you fix it ?
I believe that's for MAP Sensor
Where would this be located on a 1.4 TSI EA211?

Just picked up a 2016 Golf R, the car has been throwing EVAP codes from about 300 miles to now (860 miles). I took it to the dealer, the replaced the gas cap. Code came back a few days later. VAG COM says "Very small leak detected" in the EVAP system. Do you think it could be this valve? I'm not sure if this valve is used on the new Golf R's.
+SolidCopy1 We haven't heard of this but the car is under warranty. You should bring it to the dealer to address this.
changing my purge valve on an evoque. Hoses are made of a hard molded plastic heat shrunk around the nipple. how do you remove those kind of hoses???
Use a heat gun and apply heat to hose until it softens, then pull it off.
Hi, I have the same engine fault code in mi mk7 gti, mods: gfb and K&N drop filter any suggestion of what could be the problem?

Deutsche Auto Parts, part of me wants to get an aftermarket intake just so I don't have to deal with the engine cover on my 2.0 FSI engine :)
Can the purge valve cause random misfiring? And surging in power? Some days perfect others not so good.. code does say incorrect purge
Do you know guys if I have to replace it at some point, I got right now around 94150 miles...GTI 2008 FSI
+Dawid Otta This doesnt have a service interval. It should be replaced if it fails.
+Deutsche Auto Parts Thanks for reply ;-) Do I have to get a code for this on my dashboard if it's going bad or no?
I was getting a P0455 fault code evaporative emission system leak detected (large leak) I replaced the cap and cleared the code. after a few miles check engine light returned. I got p0455 again. also my sympton was hard to start after putting in fuel and rough idle for a few seconds right after refueling.
Is it hard to replace the hoses for this valve ? Was quoted $600 to do this by the dealer. Thanks for the videos!!!
It depends on which hose you are speaking of. Do know which side you need?
what a rip off $600 LOL
288 from my audi dealer...not 600....wow
IS there a DYI for TSI N80 purge valve replacement?
+Nate Rea We are sorry there is not.
no because its a pain in the ass. the tubing goes blindly behind the downpipe/other electronics.
I swapped Evap Purge Regulator, but again it gives me the same fault.
What to do?
Did you also change the charcoal cannister? You should do that if you are getting the evap fault codes
thank you for that video
Massively well done video! Congrats! I do have a question, would you believe replacing the N80 valve would be a good fix for Code P0455 EVAP Large Leak on a Passat B6? Thank you heaps for taking the time to read my question!
Ismanuel Macias It could very well be the problem. N80 valves generally cause small leak codes but could cause a large leak. Either way its likely the best place to start if you don't have the proper equipment to diagnose an evap leak.
Y fue la solución no se si les ayude también cambie la turbo by pass valve eso es de lo mismo
Thanks this vid save me some $
Boy was taking this thing off a bitch with those one time clamps. I have the Mk6R and it was even worse because of the diverter valve right next to it. So limited room so I had to find a way to take off that sensor upside down to remove it to clear some room to jiggle the n80 out of that left hose. Took me about 2 hours lol
Just pull the damn valve out of the hose! So dainty.
The plastic on the other can become brittle. If you're rough with it and break it, your simple fix just became complicated.
Tried to do the same in A4 B8, pretty fuck3d up system with those plastic hoses. The valve should be replaced ONLY with plastic hose set, otherwise you wont be able to stick it back in because old one is really stuck and if you cut the pipe then you have to expand the plastic. Audi technology = pain in the ass.
nice
Wish me luck!!!
Thanks!
I like how you put the phonetic pronunciation in the title screen, because everyone who reads it is going to say "Douche Auto Parts"
Ummm sooo I broke the plastic nipple 🤪
would this be similar to 1.4tsi?
