hey man so fixed mines bro ! i ordered oem Audi coil packs make sure they're the right length the first set was a millimeter off idk if that changes the reliability, but also change the spark plugs as well as fresh oil and filter, and i new MAF sensor and that'll fix your problem! i thought it was my PCV but no i was wrong ! the parts came out to be $530 and the tools costed $240 so in my opinion its worth doing your self took me about 2 hrs for all of it ! best of luck to you man!

Thanks for the video. My 2009 A3 TFSI 2.0 has 90,000 miles on it and I noticed the same issue with the oil fill cap being pulled by vacuum back into the engine. I replaced the PCV breather and found that the old one didn't pass the pressure blow test. The diaphragm was also torn in three places. This was an easy fix thanks to your explanation. I'm building up confidence to replace my timing chain and tensioner myself.

I just paid $1202 for my local dealer to perform this fix on my 2010 A5 that has already had the full rebuild for oil consumption. Drat. I could hear it whistling on acceleration at ~2300 rpm and thought it was turbo leak. Engine light came on with my wife driving and car started running rough and lurching. Took it to the dealer. Fixed, but your video is 8 minutes and they charged: $787 in labor, $258 in parts,
    $60 for oil & filter.

I was getting the dreaded 'Low Oil Pressure, Switch Engine Off Immediately' warning on my dash (2010 A5 2.0T) and that freaked me right out, I managed to limp the car home (about half mile) shutting off the engine every time the warning came on (only happened at or around idle), saw some of your videos and some other mechanic's videos after noticing how difficult it was to take the oil fill cap off while engine was running (I thought that wasn't right, should be way easier) so I ordered a replacement PCV diaphragm incase I broke it when I removed it to check, sure enough there was a half inch tear in the diaphragm, replaced the cap with a new one, no more extreme vacuum in the crankcase, let the engine run for a half hour, got up to temp, made a short run out, no warning on the dash, engine sounds normal. I ordered some low and high oil pressure switches just incase the warning comes back as I'm fairly confident it's not the actual oil pump, going to take it for a longer drive today... fingers crossed!

Some person had got rid of the pcv . His contention was that it allowed soot to build up in the manifold. More importantly he said it did absolutely nothing for the vehicle. He had setup some kind of collection system and had blanked the pcv right out of the equation. Can't remember the forum, but worth a look.

@naptowntuner your correct about the pcv creating vaccume. I learned that lesson this weekend when I reassembled the fuel injectors along with intake breather and "the whole shebang". I was having a misfire on cylinder 2 and a random on cylinder 4. I almost believe this was all cause by a vaccume leak. That nipple on the intake under your index finger where you removed the hose for pvc. If you had blocked that it would have run perfect. When the pcv fails that nipple can be blocked off to create vaccume.

Ooo hey I got my name mentioned haha. After I put my k04 Turbo on and I was data logging with IE it blew that hose off during hard pulls. My car ran terrible and I thought I blew my motor. I got home and saw that hose was blew off and was so relieved. I am very new to these cars so I thought my motor was done. I zip tied my hoses on so that wouldnt happen again. Only had it since March I think. 3 weeks after I bought the car I noticed it burned a quart of oil every 300 miles and it started to smoke real bad. I wish I did research and knew these cars had that issue. I had to remove the motor and replace the pistons and rings.

Great video! Any advice for this situation for my 2011 A4 Avant? I’m getting all sorts of error codes including the P1287 -System too lean at idle. The 1st mechanic said it was the GIAC ECM flash tuning I had done. The 2nd mechanic (who did the tuning years ago) said it’s not the tuning. The 2nd mechanic thinks it’s an vacuum leak. 1st mechanic found a lot of error codes mentioning misfires, cylinders, air leak. I even have error messages about the parking brake and the ABS system popping up on my display panel. My check engine light is on (not flashing) and it’s running a bit better. Before the idle was way off going up and down and it sounded like it was going to die.
All the research I did thought it was the PCV/oil separator but I had that replaced a year ago and if you can pull the oil cap off easily while it’s running then it’s not the oil separator. 1st mechanic replaced the spark plugs last week. The coils were replaced a year ago as well.
Next step is to take it to the dealer to do a full diagnosis. Any suggestions?

Bought one of these cars recently and keep finding my way back to your videos! Great content!
Would you know what the cause is for the PCV to suck up oil? I have the black top on it so bought another black top but when I took off the old unit it had quite a bit of oil pooling in the outlet to the turbo and in the outlet to the intake. Since replacing the new one seems to be doing the same. So I don't think the PCV is at fault... Cheers

    • @eeemuse
      @eeemuse ปีที่แล้ว

The black top or the semi-transparent are just different revisions of the same exact thing. This valve takes out the extra (hot) air from the engine and send it back into the intake system. This hot air transfer with it a bit of oil over the time. the diaphragm over the time between getting hot and cold repeatedly wears down and the only solution is to change the whole valve. There are other solutions such as modifying it by installing a catch can but you'll have to clean the can regularly.

I hate those PCV valves. In 4 years I will be replacing it for the 4th time. And I don't know if its coincidence or not, but they are failing just after I do something with the engine. At first it failed on the long journey. I replaced it wit OEM VAG one and it went fine. After like 6 months I replaced timing belt with tensioner and after startup I noticed rough Idle/misfire. I spent a whole day searching what did I wrong with timing belt replacement, but did not find anything. Then I took the car on the road and noticed idle jumping from 900 to 2000rpm, then I knew that PCV valve gone again as it was the same symptom I had earlier. I decided no to buy OEM, but bought Vaico PCV. Then after 1 year I decided to install Ramair induction kit. After installing it, I start the car aaaand rough idle... After 1 year, just now I replaced cam timing chain and tensioner. And guess what... Rough idle again. The engine ran completely fine before the works. I didn't put hand on it, just disconnected the plastic hose from it. Thinking about installing oil catch can and get rid of that shit... My engine EA113 2.0 147kw

Cleaned maf and the code went away for a week then came back. I'm thinking pcv or the o2 sensor. Check for leakes near the intake and there was a Crack in plastic. Used zip tape to cover and it has been running good for a week until I parked it waiting to redo breaks when I have time. Hope the code doesn't come back but if it does I'll try this first when code comes up to eliminate this as option

I have recently swaped my PCV with a knock of china unit a year ago and ever since i noticed that oil os being pushed out of several areas. Front timing cover, valve cover and even around the turbo i see seepage. Is there to much crank case pressure which cause oil to be pushed out? Is that a faulty PCV or more serious like piston blow by? The car runs healthy as i bought it new. It now has 160k miles and i drive like a grandpa so it has been babied

Greetings from Greece. Thanks for the video. I have an Audi A4 B8 1.8 tsi caba engine with 4007 and 4219 fault codes. The pcv and air intake manifold and rear main seal are new original, also the coils and plugs are new and there is no any oil leaks. Still rough idle remains. Any idea?

Could this cause an oil leak and smell in the cabin? After warm up 750 is idle speed. Is this clearly PCV damage? In the long term, what damage can be done to the engine in such a situation? tell me please

What might be the cause of sparkplugs getting oil on them audi Q5 2.0t tfsi 2010

Can the PCV valve be the sole cause of a severe 'oil consumption' problem? My 2015 Q5 consumes 1qt every 150 miles. Not sure if it's worthwhile trying to change the PCV valve first to see if that fixes the problem, or should I just go straight to the piston job.

Some people say if you replace pcv you must also change E Vap sensor, how TRUE is that?

How often do you suggest changing out the PCV? With the rear main seal in mind.
Reason I ask is because my 09 Glorious station wagon Passat has 100k miles on it's current PCV. Even after trim reset, my short trim stays 0 and long trim at 2.7. Not sure I need to change anything...but...when do you change the PCV? Only on fail?

I first thought you replaced it with the Chinese crappy part when it started running crappy, then you cleaned the cylinders by juicing the engine! HAHAHA

Hey naptown just want to know if I left the pipe off the PVC system open to atmosphere and plugged the intake home we can't case pressure still be regulated out through the PVC valve.
I would like to just vent the crankcase pressure 2 atmosphere Vita air filter just for the old-style PC valve systems for the V8.
What does work or would it cause increased crankcase pressure.
I would rather do that then install a catch can that I had to service every few weeks.
What's your thoughts on that method to keep oil out of the intake.
I already did this for my old Volkswagen Jetta that had the timing belt 2.0 in it that was non turbo charged.
    Thanks for any advice.

Man I've cracked the cap on 2 of those diaphragm parts, even though I've carefully used a tiny screwdriver to pry it open....I replaced the breather assm. on my 2013 VW CC and for a few months in ran well. Now it's consuming oil ( a quart a mo.) and when I pull the dipstick or oil fill cap off while running, it starts chugging AND there's a lot of vacuum pressure.
A couple days ago, I reinstalled the OEM VW PCV assm. with a new diaphragm, since the orig. was torn is multiple places, but it still has the vacuum pressure in the dipstick and oil fill cap.
Does that mean this breather assm. is faulty already???
