A neat Idea for maybe a Multiplayer Monday, or just a creation, is you create battle gliders that launch out of a similar magnet cannon to the one used for this vid
Video/Creation Idea: Breaking the sound barrier using magnets. Try and use magnets to repel something fast enough to break the sound barrier. Bonus if you get it to hit a build (congrats, you built a railgun :D)
Multiplayer idea: dive bomber vs flack. One bomb run per round. Bomber hit the target: point for the bomber. Bomber gets hit before it release the bomb point for the flack. Both miss: nobody gets point
For flak, like authentic as Trailmakers will allow flak, you'd want to make the TNT timed and also on either a proximity or altitude trigger for release of the submunitions that are on different timers. The old flak used timers and was basically, "We think those planes are this far away....Fire!....Too soon. Increase the timer.....Fire!!!! Too far. Wind it back a little..." Then they got mini primitive radars in them that would be simple emitters and receivers that would ping out and would trigger as soon as the response back hit a certain frequency. Needless to say, both methods didn't distinguish between friend and foe and just exploded on either reaching a certain time or once it got close enough to something. It'd take a ridiculous amount of logic for what a flak round actually was in comparison in the game, but that's about how authentic you would be able to make it if you were going for 100% functionality to how it did work. The approach you've gone with is kind of the "accuracy by volume" which was the norm for flak, but also they would have different flak positions firing at the same time instead of 1 just bombarding a single area of the skies. But it's Trailmakers, so what else can you really do? You added the magnets and decided to make a Chaos-tyusha.... Like the spread the magnets gives is great for the flak effect, but the image of each row of rockets firing off in sequence just gives me old Soviet Katyusha Launcher vibes and I can't hear some distorted version of their iconic launch sound going off in my head as your rockets go yeeting into the air.
Easier way scrap ...build one ... Have it use 2-3 gates have it go up then detach tnt then the tnt explode shortly after (you could make the missile spin to create a spread)
There’s a way you can make this thing into a demon. Forget the thrusters and only do double piston/ magnet launching. Then use an accumulator on the projectiles which will allow you to set the altitude before you fire. For the projectile layout put them in a rectangle where the longest side is in the direction of the flight of the target. Then put the whole platform on a servo. When you do a STAGGERED fire, slowly spin the servo so that you start off vertical, and then aim the platform at the flight path of the flying target.
I think it’s really cool that you don’t get hit every time, imagine someone diving through the flak and somehow making it through to drop a bomb (dive bombers vs flak cannon vid?)
I love making custom projectiles/rockets. I really hope we get more options to make it easier! Everyone should go take the survey that the devs posted so we can give them some good ideas
You could try launching the explosives with altimeters and, taking turns, flying at the same heights as set by the altimeters see who can fly through the flak successfully.
Uh no. Modern FLAK fires high explosive fragmentation shells with a proximity fuze, that are made to explode when detecting nearby objects. They were developed, so AA did not have to rely on spray and praying into the sky.
Great video consider setting it to night when working with explosives it makes it a lot more cinematic I bet someone much smarter than me could figure out how to make the range variable with the new logic blocks by having the number logic on the projectile and somehow have the dynamite explode based off of the accumulators input maybe with the comparison gate you would probably need a pretty big projectile for that though lol Thanks for always keeping us entertained!
My great grandfather served as a bomber pilot in WW2, and during a raid over an enemy base (I believe an air field in Vienna), a peice of shrapnel from the flak guns got into one of the four engines of his plane (I forget the exact model). He managed to get the bomber back to base (he was the first pilot to ever do so), then tore the shrapnel out of the engine and wore it as a necklace for the rest of his life.
Try to remove the thrusters and add boat paddles for tailfins or something like that for precision. Or remove the thruster and the cone for maximum effective chaos. Also try it on your friends.
For it to be actual flak it'd be distance sensors but those are crap to work with so alltitude/time based fuses are probably the best you're gonna get.
This is seeming a bit more like the mass AA before proximity fuses were developed. Could you actually build a proximity detonator on a missile? Use distance sensors set to the max range of the explosive, pointed in all directions. Then load it into a gun, and have one person firing while another person tries to evade. Multiplayer Monday idea?
Main problem about that if you set the distance sensors all to 50m and try to stick it in a barrel the dynamite will explode instantly inside the barrel because the sensors will always trigger and you have to be far away from any object/creation/building or else you explode too
Depends in ww2 they used timed shells instead of proxy as well technology wasnt as advance and it wouldve been so much more expensive and size wouldve been a massive issue But now a days yeah its more proxy with a timer so they dont land and kill others that arent enemies However theyre nkt shotguns as they explode mid air sending shrapnel but ofc recently new flak weaponry is been showed off
0:46 I... Guess? The shells don't contain anything inside them other than the fuze and explosives, so when they explode, the metal casing is shredded and goes everywhere (fragmentation). Also, the efficacy of said shells are highly dependent on what fuze they have. If it's a proximity fuze, then as long as the shell is close enough it should be effective. If it's a timed fuze, the efficacy depends on whether you did your math right as to when it'd reach the plane you were aiming at.
Hey scrapman! While your idea of a flak cannon is relatively close, it isn't the shrapnel that kills the plane. Instead, the concussive force of the explosives inside the proximity shells is what damages the aircraft. Imagine explosions so large that it literally shakes the plane apart. This worked very well in WWII where aircraft were being made cheaply and W/O quality.
I had an idea for a multiplayer video. You each choose something to build, and you take turns to build in the same creation, maybe 10 blocks each time. You don't know what the other player(s) are building to begin with.
distance sensors only work to 50 meters, but you could use pistons with distance sensors to give you adjustable time based on how you observe the enemy also, flak cannons were designed to just damage the planes enough to cause them to crash, not necessarily destroy the whole thing, so this is good!
For your problem of adjusting the range on the fly, maybe add more magnets with different controls with the 'and' gate (1 powers one set, 2 powers more magnets, etc.)
i have an idea now that u made flak cannons, each of you will build a plane or any type of flying vehicle that has a limit of 500 blocks but has only the speed to go about 50 or 70 mph so likely a armored flying vehicle is reccomended, each of you will take turns flying on each spawn point because every time you make a pass on each spawn point the other team or player will spawn their flak cannons there. so the game is who can survive the most passes on each spawn point. btw i chose 500 block limit because i wanna see each of you build a ridiculous buff flying vehicle, may it be a plane or spaceship looking, its up to you also, no weapons and shields so you just gotta survive as long as possible much love to you scrapman goodluck!
Just some information about flak cannons and why it wasn't as effective as you tought it would be in the testing: 1)with this creation you tried doing what whole fields of cannons were doing in ww2 so getting as much spread was not possible 2)flak cannons were effective against squadrons of planes (ex. Formations of bombers or fighters at high altitudes) not because of precision but because they could shoot in the center and do damage to multiple planes without needing to hit them physically. This would be more effective against 3 people in a formation or a really big plane
i've got idea, shrink that big pile of flak ammo ( in 5:32 or somwhere there) into one flak ammo, and when its in air, trow every ammo out so theres multiple explosions (in air)
Has anyone else noticed how much easier the stranded in space campaign is now that there’s less impact damage? My creations don’t feel like they’re made of glass anymore
Is there a mod that allows you to get your hands on the flak cannons on Space pirate Red ballons..? Because that is a very straight forward flak cannon with zero effort....
You should use tails to add stability in flight. It's not a question of if, but necessity. The reason why their doing that when at an angle, is that the anti-air rockets are top heavy, so as soon as they start flying, they go downward.
Me and scrapmans thought process is very different Scrap:”ok they may need this to do this and then if it works it will do this” Me:”man hope this works * it doesn’t * welp there goes my whole entire plan”
Multiplayer Idea: Use rings of fire on two bridges as start and finish points. Each player builds an AA turret snd a bomber plane. Set up a target in the space between start and finish. Take turns playing as plane and turret, assigning point values to hitting target and making it to finish. Could be HORSE style with target location.
what would be cool is like a multiplayer challenge where 1 or 2 people are in flak cannons and then the participating players build their own big battle plane (no weapons , or maybe weapons if you want) and see how long they can last
So damn cool! Need to see this in multiplayer. like the plane has to pass through different areas that you are guarding with flak or other defense systems.
this is actually sort of historically accurate. Flak would hit in a storm for about ten minutes (depends on the amount of flak) then stop once you passed the emplacement. It would often only take down a couple planes every raid (among the dozens it saw every day).
Try it in Scrap mechanic? I know it would be a nightmare because of how large the explosives are and because how long stuff takes to build AND the physics are the way they are. but with the modded warhead block Moonbo used back in the day on his missiles it might be easier. Or maybe a similar setup to this video with the modded magnetblocks and explosive spawners could work. I'm at least gonna try it myself
The longer delay actually is good, if there was shrapnel in this game. Maybe make bigger rockets and put like shrapnel sleeves of small blocks around the dynamite? The idea is: if there is a lot of shrapnel, one will hit something important.
Scrap Man is out here making insane creations he could only dream of years ago. These recent videos of logic creations and top 1% percent videos are evidence of great his growth in his creative, technical and innovative skills that someone achieves through years and years and thousands of hours. His genius only grows and it will know no bounds
Multiplayer idea: Simplified version of this, you are air defense for the single player flying their customized plane to destroy your targets. You have one shot each, no rebuilds and the plane has 1 bomb for each target. The score is based on how many targets each player can get in their plane.
Use 2 accumulators and a compere block to set range. Accumulator 1 sets the speed of accumulator 2. When accumulator 2 gets a postetive compere. Booom! Edit: made an example on the workshop. search for flak cannon effect.
If you put another main block like the launch delay but hook it up to the dynamites detonation delay instead and then hook that block up a accumulator with +/- inputs, then you should be able to adjust how close or far they'll go before exploding? Or i guess that depends on if they keep the delay the accumulator set for them after detaching or if they default back to their base delay value. I haven't really used logic block yets, it just seems to me like similar to how hes used accumulator blocks to control speed in the past that they might be used to control the fuse too.
Apparently there is a trick where, if you save the projectile and duplicate by dragging it from the saves, you dont get cross-wiring

Video/Creation Idea: Breaking the sound barrier using magnets. Try and use magnets to repel something fast enough to break the sound barrier. Bonus if you get it to hit a build (congrats, you built a railgun :D)
Now do a challenge with Yzuei and possibly the others where you try to fly a HUGE B-29 Superfortress through heavy flak and try to bomb an enemy base
A flak cannon basically shoots debris into the air, so that the plain runs into it. Giant delayed shotgun is about correct
This idea would have been great in your mortar challenge with Yuzi. Forget a missile dropping bombs, just lob a bunch of explosives with magnets! :D
All that struggle and confusion followed by you using the magnetic assist was just crazy. I laughed at loud at how well it worked.
Main problem about that if you set the distance sensors all to 50m and try to stick it in a barrel the dynamite will explode instantly inside the barrel because the sensors will always trigger and you have to be far away from any object/creation/building or else you explode too
You were right, you don’t need thrusters. Just put a lot of explosives in line with detaches with mags underneath
Depends in ww2 they used timed shells instead of proxy as well technology wasnt as advance and it wouldve been so much more expensive and size wouldve been a massive issue
But now a days yeah its more proxy with a timer so they dont land and kill others that arent enemies
However theyre nkt shotguns as they explode mid air sending shrapnel but ofc recently new flak weaponry is been showed off

Gotta love when you make a build that smites people 😂
Hey scrapman!
Here is an idea: Break the sound barrier with magnets, like a railgun sorta.
I had an idea for a multiplayer video. You each choose something to build, and you take turns to build in the same creation, maybe 10 blocks each time. You don't know what the other player(s) are building to begin with.
I thought about a distance sensor so when it is in the air and it detects a object it would explode.🤔
distance sensors only work to 50 meters, but you could use pistons with distance sensors to give you adjustable time based on how you observe the enemy
also, flak cannons were designed to just damage the planes enough to cause them to crash, not necessarily destroy the whole thing, so this is good!
For your problem of adjusting the range on the fly, maybe add more magnets with different controls with the 'and' gate (1 powers one set, 2 powers more magnets, etc.)
The range could be changed using an accumulator that can be used as an adjustable timer, but it might reach close to the complexity limit.
Hmmm you made a Railgun Flak Cannon. Very nice
i have an idea now that u made flak cannons, each of you will build a plane or any type of flying vehicle that has a limit of 500 blocks but has only the speed to go about 50 or 70 mph so likely a armored flying vehicle is reccomended, each of you will take turns flying on each spawn point because every time you make a pass on each spawn point the other team or player will spawn their flak cannons there. so the game is who can survive the most passes on each spawn point. btw i chose 500 block limit because i wanna see each of you build a ridiculous buff flying vehicle, may it be a plane or spaceship looking, its up to you also, no weapons and shields so you just gotta survive as long as possible
much love to you scrapman goodluck!
Just some information about flak cannons and why it wasn't as effective as you tought it would be in the testing:
1)with this creation you tried doing what whole fields of cannons were doing in ww2 so getting as much spread was not possible
2)flak cannons were effective against squadrons of planes (ex. Formations of bombers or fighters at high altitudes) not because of precision but because they could shoot in the center and do damage to multiple planes without needing to hit them physically. This would be more effective against 3 people in a formation or a really big plane
I think you can Change the Timing while your sitzing in the creation with the new Logic gates
You could use an accumulator to set the height that you want it to explode at
Could also use height sensor instead of Timing to trigger the explosives
20:03 ok that was impressive ^_^
Not a single flak cannon, but a full battery of them, in effect.
for changing the range on the fly, use the accumulator to be able to input a number into the system to adjust the delay
i've got idea, shrink that big pile of flak ammo ( in 5:32 or somwhere there) into one flak ammo, and when its in air, trow every ammo out so theres multiple explosions (in air)
Possible idea: Deployable Minefield...?
Has anyone else noticed how much easier the stranded in space campaign is now that there’s less impact damage? My creations don’t feel like they’re made of glass anymore
You mean the original campaign? I don’t remember there being a campaign for the space expansion
@@alecsmith4349 Yeah, the one where you have to pick up pieces of scrap and bring them back to the beacon things
@@alecsmith4349 It’s called Stranded in Space
Wow scrap you should invite your friends and use the flak cannons vs planes!
the speed and spread of that thing was gorgeous
u should have down a distance sensor on the end so it would blow up nearly to the plane
With the new collision physics you should do a challenge where you launch actual blocks at each other without using explosives or normal weapons.
Me and scrapmans thought process is very different
Scrap:”ok they may need this to do this and then if it works it will do this”
Me:”man hope this works * it doesn’t * welp there goes my whole entire plan”
Love your videos scrap man, I’ve been here for a while and I’m always waiting to see more.
Alright, stopping people from saying "first" AND "stopping people from saying first".
U just said both tho, also first
I think you shouldve had more cannons with less projectiles so less concentrated but more area
Do a tank battle but with kinetic ranged weapons' only it'll be fun to see the projectiles react in the new damage update.
Now you can remove the jets and put the detachable blocks on the bottom, so you can fit even more missiles in the same area.
Multiplayer idea:
Simplified version of this, you are air defense for the single player flying their customized plane to destroy your targets.
Booom! Edit: made an example on the workshop. search for flak cannon effect.
true, 16:56 was beautiful, but we're are a Flak cannon barrage, not a wall of rockets.
9:52 how about this scrapman, use toggle for your controls on an OR gate, they will sustain output.
Flak aka FLugAbwehrKanone is litteraly called Anti Air cannon in english so not every flak means air burst
scrapman unintentionally made aerial roadspikes
If you put another main block like the launch delay but hook it up to the dynamites detonation delay instead and then hook that block up a accumulator with +/- inputs, then you should be able to adjust how close or far they'll go before exploding?
Or i guess that depends on if they keep the delay the accumulator set for them after detaching or if they default back to their base delay value. I haven't really used logic block yets, it just seems to me like similar to how hes used accumulator blocks to control speed in the past that they might be used to control the fuse too.
