"Follow your dreams but not off a cliff" as someone always knew what they wanted to do ever since they were a small child, this quote hit me hard. Going into my alevels and thinking about university over the past year has forced me to accept the realisation that it's extremely likely I won't get to have my 'dream career', I won't get my dream job, my passion won't be my career. Its been incredibly hard for me to accept that because I've never been able to imagine myself doing anything else. Teachers always said it's fine if you don't know what you want to do yet but as someone who has known exactly what they wished to do their entire life, its tough to come to the realisation that's not what you'll be doing in life. It's really hard to give up your dreams for a more realistic career but it's not necessarily a bad thing. There will be other opportunities in life. So while I'm sure most of the people my age don't have a clear idea of exactly what they want to do as a career (my class and friends definitely don't) I hope those that do will see this and realise that if you wanna persue your dream career then that's amazing! But if you don't, then that's also fine.

(I kinda know what they are but I don't completely understand it, I know that it is something which almost every has to deal with and I know that taxes are money related, I wonder is the meaning of taxes something like the government demands money from those who are living in the nearby areas so the government could provide them electricity, water, etc or do taxes mean that the owners of their homes/houses would have to pay for every property they own??)🤔(sorry I am a curious 14 year old so I am very dumb)🤔

Update: the first time I watched this video was three years ago when it was first uploaded and I was a 17 year old, soon to be 18 year old senior in high school. Fast forward now, I just turned 21 back in October and so far I’ve tried a semester of community college after I graduated in 2019, didn’t work out, didn’t have the motivation to continue, and took 2020 as my gap year and just worked and payed off my first car (thank goodness). Applied for university and got accepted, finished my first semester, went horribly, I couldn’t focus, my “friends” used me to buy alcohol and I had a lot of people die in the 4 month span of being a student. I’m currently moving back in with my mom next Monday and taking two semesters off, but honestly I don’t think I want to go back to school and that’s okay. College isn’t for everyone, but I’m not knocking it either. Rn I only have $400 to my name and I’m saving up to eventually move out into my own apartment in the next couple of months and finding a steady job with benefits, until then, wish me luck.
I know it's been 1 year but hope you are having a better life 👍
As a Nigerian I can relate to the “ get good grades, go to college, become an lawyer/doctor/something that makes a lot of money” trope, so when I told my parents I want to go to an art college for animation, it took them awhile then come around to it, they saw art as a hobby and thought I was wasting my intelligence by not becoming a doctor or something.
Lily I mean same except I wanna go to acting uni and go into acting but my backup would be still working within that industry, behind the scenes. My Asian mother ofc, doesn't really like the idea of Acting Uni, but I'm willing to work hard to pay it off T_______T its a passion and my craft, and I'm willing to try and prove to her that I'm going the right way :')

A uniform
Uniforms suck. Worst part is when the school decides to add a thick dark blazer which you are not allowed to remove except with explicit permission from a teacher (even in 30c weather) and you must have exactly 7 stripes visible on your tie. Your top button must be done up even if it chokes you.
Think is with the ties in my school is they got so mad at students not wearing them properly, they mandatory replaced them with "clip-on" ties. What's the point in making students wear ties if they aren't going to learn how to tie a tie for work?
Uniforms make sense for public-facing jobs or jobs with safety requirements. Other jobs can make do with the dress code of "Be comfortable and reasonably well covered" and ditch the "Tie and suit" BS.

School is about to start in about a week or two and this is my Senior year, which means this is my very last year of school (before college ofc)
I’m so nervous and lowkey sad that it’s coming to an end. But I’m excited for new opportunities and what life can offer me. I use to watch this video every time a new school year would start but now this is my last one, so I’m watching this one last time before school ends and I go off to college!
