episode 982 was directed by Megumi Ishitani, her work on one piece has been insane. some of the best one piece episode ive ever watched

Welcome to Megumi mania, 957, 982 and 1015 are all directed and storyboarded by Megumi Ishitani, her work in One Piece are epic 1 year long ordeals where she brings out all the stops and honestly has made 3 of the most loved episodes of Wano, the series as a whole and I would argue anime. Her work literally is a love letter to One Piece fans ESPECIALLY Manga readers because she doesn't just go page for page but elevates and even adds to the contents. We love her and it's clear you love her too

Except for that one scene where Robin grabs her opponent's right hand and breaks their left wrist because the animator messed up.

I couldn't have been more hyped when they introduced the tobi roppo. The shadow keeping the mystery, then showing us the designs and their personalities
Megumi Ishitani is a fantastic director her master pieces are episodes 957 (when the warlords where disbanded) 982 (jinbei and the begging of the raid) and future one 1015 (the animated events of chapter 1000)
We need her adapting chapter 1044 or maybe even 1045 she'll be able to truly capture the feelings of those emotions.

There it is! Episode 982 - the masterpiece of an episode brought to us by Megumi Ishitani. Her direction has a huge impact on the animation teams she is leading and she is for sure one of the biggest talents in the Anime industry! The episodes directed by her can only described as gorgeous af 💙
Have you noticed that Kanjuro's bad drawings are made with his left hand, but when he reveals himself as a spy he starts drawing good with his right hand?
- Kin’emon is a genius for creating a brilliant plan to trick the enemy where he uses the Flyer that the spy revealed to allow capture rebels so now he uses this against them especially after Yasu added the 2 lines to the snake he stated that the meaning changed to a lizard making the meet up place now at Tokage Port. So while the spy informed Orochi to attack the wrong spot the Alliance of 4,200 men stayed safe in the real located because Yasu did not change the animal he changed the meaning with the lines cutting out the middle (Ha / bu Mina / to) now making it “Hato” or precisely the seawall / wharf near Habu Port which is Yasu’s favorite maple forest is
- To make a get away Kanjuro uses his Sumigumo / Ink Clouds where by pulling on his strands of hair he shoots out a thick cloud of ink (him pulling his hair & swing it around is a reference to Kabuki’s Lion Dance which features a father & son duo portraying 2 powerful lions) then Ukiyo Yudachi Ezu (means "Fleeting World Evening Shower Painting”) / Ukiyo Portrait: Evening Shower a bit of a reference to his epithet where once the cloud is in position he releases a shower of ink drops calling it "Ink Arrows” which are sharp enough to pierce wood or flesh
- Ulti quirk is that she ends her sentences with “arinsu” which is what Edo Period Oirans used called “arinsu-kotoba”, but in SBS she has also used gonsu (means “to be”), nari, hamahage, gowasu, matcha (means “powered green tea”), potato, dattebayo (if your a Naruto fan you might recognize this “Believe It !”), zamasu (used by upper-class Edo women), aruyo (means “so it is”), pachycephalo, ti, & her worst was doragon
With the “Fellowship of the Raid” having a total of 5,400 including the Straw Hats which the next Nakama has officially joined (as he introduces himself like a yakuza when swearing loyalty to his oyabun or “Boss”) “First Son of the Sea” Jinbe (voiced by Katsuhisa Hoki / Daniel Baugh) age 46, birthday April 2nd, blood type F, height 301 cm / 9’10½, born in the Fishman District, Fishman Island on the Grand Line, bounty of 438,000,000 Berries = 438,000,000 Yen = $ 3,266,097.67, & now the crew’s Helmsman
- Heart Pirates has Law & his 21 member crew: Bepo the polar bear Mink as the 2nd in command & navigator, Penguin, Shachi (means Orca), Jean Bart (the ex-slave that Law freed), then 3 other named members Oda tells us in an SBS like Ikkaku (only female member & her name means narwal), Uni (wears a grey bandana with black strips & his name means sea urchin), Clione (wears a long blue hood & his name is a type of sea slug known as a sea angel), & the rest (which I am surprised Oda has yet to reveal any other name could all named after sea / tundra creatures)
- Kid Pirates has Kid & his 31 member crew: his Vice-Captain Killer, Heat (zombie looking), Wire (he wears cloak & uses a trident), Gig, Dive, UK, Pomp, Bubblegum, Reck, House, Boogie, Mosh, Hip, Papas, Jaguar, Quincy, Moai, Hop, Emma, Compo, Disc J, & the few remaining nameless (all have names relating to rock music)
- Since we see 3 of the Worst Generation ships here are all of their names: Law = Polar Tang, Kid = Victoria Punk, Hawkins = Grudge Dolph, Urouge = Hanjomaru, Bonney = Jewelry Margherita, Drake = Liberal Hind, Apoo = Stay Tune, Capone did have his own ship the Nostro Castello but it was lost during Wholecake, & Blackbeard = Saber of Xebec

I was flabbergasted when Denjiro revealed the real meaning of the flyer and that Kin-emon was just super lucky.
We didnt know Jimbeis current bounty at this point.(We just knew that his bounty was over 400 Million post Timeskip).

Since you were talking about how much of an absolute unit Jinbe is, fun fact he is actually the tallest Straw Hat. Believe it or not he actually eclipses Franky in height by a couple feet. Bro is nearly 10 feet tall, or over 300 cm.

And hopefully the events of chapter 1044 will also be animated by her. 5 to 6 months from now.

All the turns came out to play, starting with Denjiro outing himself and the army having read the message differently to Kin'emon, meaning he accidentally put Kanjuro on a false trail
Then Jinbe returns! And just in time for Ishitani hours to return give us some more splendid animation and visual storytelling, as well as the Golden Kagura concert and the Tobi Roppo revealed, plus Kaido's son!

Congrats on being caught up Ruff! I have come to a conclusion that calamity of this world is flowing unsteadily towards someone that isnt prepared for it so i want you to be careful to not get struck by calamity by the masses of the flow such that the nothingess in the world will finally prevail and be justice in the end and will have a final farewell with the flow of calamity finally calming down.
I think that last part of 982 is supposed to reference the barrel scene from early in one piece before they got to the grand line. When the straw hats had 5 members they each slammed their feet on a barrel of alcohol and confessed their dreams. Now with 5 more members (now that Jimbei has officially joined with everyone) the crew has poured their sake and slams the mugs down instead

When episode 982 was released, I was caught up in the manga for about five or six months, but I basically only watched an occasional clip of the anime. After hearing people talk about this episode, I decided to watch the anime weekly as well, and I've been doing that since. In general, I still prefer the manga, but episodes like this one are phenomenal.

I've always justified Kin'emon's mistake by the fact that he's spent decades trying to decipher Kanjuro's terrible drawings, so when he saw Yasuie's change, he assumed it was a shitty drawing of a lizard. That adds an extra level of irony, as Kanjuro's fake poor drawing skills led to him getting bad information when it mattered most

One Piece heights are actually quite confusing , like Franky being taller than Jimbei in one scene alltough Franky is 2.40m ( 7'10 1/2) and Jimbei is 3.01m ( 9'8)
Did you know when Kanjuro draw an ugly dragon he used his left hand, while when he drew the goose (I don't know what is it so I'll just call it that way) he used his right hand

I wish the anime had done the Jinbe entrance just a tiny bit differently. In the manga he just appears out of nowhere and it's a massive surprise, but here you see it coming. I try to remind myself in that Japan most of the fanbase has already read the manga, but still. Though I do love Law and Kid's reactions like "are you fucking kidding me?!!"
