Here the Sun azimuth angle and surface azimuth angle were defined as the angle from the due south, positive toward the west, and negative toward the east, each spans 180°. In other literature or presentation, the sum azimuth angle is defined as for the due north. Like compass, the angle range is from 0 to 360°. Which one should be used in which situation?

in other references i have seen that solar azimuth angle is measured with respect to north pole, but here in your lecturer south pole your reference point. how?

As we are so tiny compare to earth, we can see surface of earth as flat. So, we consider part of earth for study around us, we can take that as rays of sun are incident on horizontal (flat) surface. Hope this helps you. Thanks, Team EL

We know that ground surface as compared to our size Vs earth's size, it will be flat. Plane parallel to such flat surface will be horizontal plane. And the same thing we are considering here. For more understanding, consider 1m^2 area on the ground. What would you found? A square with 1m length of sides!! Which is flat 2D surface on the ground. so what I see with all these angles that your cities were layed out with this master plan, your Zenith angle can now change, they talk about solar mass and shadow homes. creep out onto land that was left for environment? even on cloudy days in colder climates the rays are used to warm up your habitat ? warmer days colder nights why? that is why on hills a height restriction is needed, when a home can take sun away from the common good I would say something is not well thought out
