Is lionheart a good keyblade to use? I dont have ultima and i see that lionheart is longer than divine rose and does more damage than oathkeeper and oblivion as well as lady luck.
This battle can be made even easier by equipping items with dark resistance on them. All of his attacks, even the fire pillars, meteors, and the supernovas; deal dark damage. If you're playing on Proud Mode the damage reduction is very noticeable. Heart Guard is the golden acc for this fight defensively imo. You get +3 HP, +4 DEF, and +20% Dark Resistance each, so +9, +12, +60% total if you put 3 on. Equip them, and try the fight. You might be amused how much his damage on you gets cut down by.
this was it. With 3 of those on, and the ultimate keyblade I was able to power through. This, and a good amount of MP allowing for continous strike raids was the way to cheese this guy. That, and a lot of elixers.
I didn’t realize how recently these videos were made! I’m replaying all the KH main games Kuz I’m going to Disneyland the week before Halloween. Recently found your channel during my most recent playthrough of the series and absolutely love the detail of all your guides. I'm hoping for the "mysterious man" fight soon but look forward to whatever comes next either way!
Yaaa!!!! I just beat him on Proud mode!!! Thank you! This guide helped so much! One thing I noticed. On his last health bar I was able to just be ontop of him and he was spamming his energy balls at me. During that I would combo then heal then combo then heal until I whittled his health to nothing. He kind got stuck in the Energy ball attack because I was relentless.
It's cool to see someone dodge his entire sword combo. 9:56 Thanks for making this guide! I will come back to it once I get to Sephiroth one Proud Mode.
Very nice, detailed tutorial. :) Thanks to watching it, I now see the main differences in Sephiroth's attack patterns between OG Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts FM: - In OG KH, Sephy doesn't use Flame Pillar after teleporting behind you. He mainly uses hopping slashes after teleporting behind you (he also mixes in teleporting spin slashes in Phase 3). - If you can consistently keep hitting OG KH Sephy with four-hit combos to make him teleport away before he gets off his four swings, he'll never actually use Flame Pillar. The difference in how Sephiroth uses Flame Pillar in FM is probably the main reason why many have considered him tougher to fight in FM.
@@KHGuides No problem, and thanks for the compliment. :) I might try to learn those dodges on Sephiroth's Chaotic Dance, but blocking it with a high-deflect Keyblade just seems a good deal easier.
This was so incredibly helpful! The best KH guides by FAR! I died on my own once, but then found your guide and after watching your video I got it first attempt! Thank you so much for explaining it so thoroughly! 😊

Thank you for another great guide! Thanks to you I was able to defeat all hard bosses. But I found a absolutely easy trick to defeat Sephiroth. I just used Ragnarok and spammed it like there is no tomorrow. Then I used my final exlisiers to fill up my HP and MP and with a bit of luck just swiped him of the stage in my third try!
I played vanilla kh1 before guides on the internet and I've been playing final mix recently. I'm glad this guide is out but most of the stuff I have no clue how you'd find it without a guide
This tutorial was really helpful for beating him in terms of understanding his physical attack strategy managed to beat as level 98 Sora and in my first attempt as well the first time I’ve ever completed the Sephiroth boss battle as well super helpful stuff my final challenge now is making the Ultima Weapon mainly just for the sake of it really it’s the last obtainable weapon in the first game remaining
Great guide! I agree with everything here except the jumping to avoid his basic attacks. Maybe it's my more aggressive playstyle but instead of jumping to avoid them I just time/block and punish them with guard. I also think it's easier to just time your blocks for chaotic dance instead of memorizing a dodge pattern for it - save for the last strike which I can use dodge roll to reposition and attack again. I also use the 3+4 combo method and recommend the finisher Blitz.
I don’t know how but by some miracle I beat Unknown. Now I have to contend with the bane of every rpg and and universally known badass. Seriously, this guy is so popular, he’s crossed over to other games.
Idk man, the lionheart is the second best keyblade imo because it has 10 strength, longest reach, and has average mp and crit rate. If u don't want to grind for the ultimate weapon, the lionheart is a great substitute.
I did it, I defeated Sephiroth! After so many tries I have finally beat him!! Your guide was very hopeful but I defeated him with Divine Rose because of its high-deflection I was able to stagger him on phase 1 and phase 3. Phase 3 was still the hardest because he can teleport behind you which you don’t stand a slim chance against. Apparently your guide seems to have missed his rushing towards you while the orbs surround him and he teleports behind you to use his attack in Phase 3! He does this multiple times and sadly I wasn’t able to avoid his hits. So I was using Curaga a lot to avoid dying from his sneak attacks! I was playing the vanilla PS2 version so his attack pattern maybe different from Final Mix. It looks like they either removed that sneaky spin attack in FM or you may have overlooked it somehow. I also noticed in the vanilla version he doesn’t spam Heartless Angel in consecutive times in Phase 3. He only casts it occasionally but usually after Chaotic Dance.
On this walktrough of the game, i only miss him, so i thought i safe me from leveling( 26 level to go) to 90+ or i just watch your tutourial. I think 3 trys will be enough, to get the grip on it. Thanks
Great guide! I know that the Second Chance ability was recommended at the start of the video, but it’s also worth mentioning that a successful Heartless Angel spell taking you down to 1 HP is completely dependent on having Second Chance equipped, otherwise it’s an instant KO. *Edit 7/31/24* Retested this and I am incorrect here. Having Second Chance equipped makes no difference. Heartless Angel always takes you down to 1 HP. I wonder if this is the case for all versions of the game?
Never managed to beat him in the PS2 original. Part of the problem back then is I was underleveled, refused to abuse elixirs, only had the Oblivion key, the base wind shield, but most of all I treated it like a game I could simply get better at through skill. It would be like taking a level 1 WoW character against a raid boss without a party. I also refused to use walk-throughs or cheats, so the fact is I was figuring it out as I went and would't have access to the best post game content. But thh I'm not sure I want to go back, the controls are also super clunky and the gear/levels matter more then skill, it is NOT Metal Gear Rising, much less a Soulsbourne.
Sephiroth as a concept is so interesting because he's leagues more powerful than any other boss by far. The speed of which he moves, his attack variety, the outright insane amount of damage he's able to commit, it's almost like he's from a completely different game.
yo think I beat him when I was younger is wild lol I must’ve really been a game fanatic I remember him whooping me out and I believe I learned his pattern and finally beat him
Guys thank you very much! I just discovered your channel but you already helped me finishing Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix. Keep it up, i'm sure i'm gonna need your help with the rest of "the story so far" collection 😂
I have beaten Sephiroth before just one time and I can't tell you how many tries it took me before I finally defeated him. To me he is the hardest boss to defeat in the kingdom hearts series. I would recommend that you be at at least level 80 or higher than that to fight him. Level 100 is probably your best bet and it is probably best to use the Ultima Weapon.
_You can cheese this fight with the key blade throw_ Depends _very_ much on what EXP level you're fighting him at. You're not going to get far spamming Strike Raid at level 65 and below.
@@elementsmaster Which you won't really have at levels so low, not to mention the lack of attack power. I think you can have maybe 7-8 MP at most with EXP in the 60's. That's good for 3-4 Strike Raids per full MP bar. Even if you load yourself with elixirs, you're still gonna need to focus more on dodging/blocking/countering Sephy's attacks than just spamming Strike Raids on him.
I was definitely over leveled. I had Sora at level 100 with the Ultima Weapon and full Cosmic Arts Accessories and it took me less than 5 tries of mashing x and using curaga when my health got low. I thought he'd be MUCH harder to the point I was putting it off all of yesterday and only did it when I woke up today. 😅
You know for how many times I bashed my head against him when I played the original KH as a kid, I don't think I ever realized his counter-mechanic. I'm pretty sure I actually beat him without using Guard back then.
I beat him like... idk... when was this game released on the ps2 on the non final mix, version? Have no clue how I did it. Just remember spamming the hell out of that key throw attack on his final form. Think, I was way above level 75. Probably 99 or something. And now l'm like level 45, have no desire to grind and pretty much died within 10 seconds.... sucks getting old.
Im doing a level 1 run of Sephiroth and one issue i seem to keep running into is how to deal with his counters. For example in the video you mentioned how Sephiroth will counter after the 7th and 4th hits but i keep running into a problem with dealing with said counters. I avoid the 4 hit counters entirely, but when i reach the 7th hit, he becomes invincible and either immediately uses Fire pillar or one of his slashes before the actual counter. Avoiding those and finding a way to survive is my main issue any advice? Which depending on the timing can kill me if i get unlucky. Which sums up a major problem i seem to keep having the unlucky moments in phase 1 and 2.
Yes! The 7-hit counter was my biggest challenge in avoiding damage. If he immediately puts up the flame pillars on your 7th hit, it's REALLY difficult to get away (using Strike Raid is great if you have the MP). I feel like I had a better chance at escaping when my 7th hit was part of a low midair combo, then I could hit the ground and dodge roll away at a specific angle. I believe one of WillJV2's LV1 videos shows this in action! 👍
@@KHGuidesThanks for reply! I actually had that happen once but it's too tight timing and luck based to replicate if at all. Btw I noticed something in his pattern which isn't in your video and I felt the need to share it. During my level 1 run I have noticed that on his first phase (possible the entire fight), Sephiroth punishes you for missing attacks. For example if i land two 3 hit combos and then go in for the 7th hit, he may randomly jump out of the way. Even if i catch him immediately after he will VERY QUICKLY use 1-2 slash attacks in quick succession and then go into Fire pillar ignoring the normal rotation and his own pattern. The same happens when i do a ground combo only for it to miss the 2nd hit onwards. The only way around this in phase 1 is to run away and keep your distance until he flame pillars.
@@KHGuides I also noticed he does this and casts Flame pillar if you are ever hit by his non counter attacks, like his normal slashes. He also seems to do it when you attempt an air combo, land and do an incomplete ground one like 2 hits in the air and then one on the ground.
Hi Jeff! The One Winged Angel keychain is only received in the Final Mix version of the game. If you're playing this title on Playstation 2, there is no reward for defeating Sephiroth.
Huh, I always thought he had four phases since his wild dance DM wouldn't appear until he had only 3 HP bars or less left. But instead it's on a stagger counter. Interesting.
after many attempts i get lucky just use ground combo and curaga i get around 50% dogde rate before i have problem with heartless angles phase when i use strike raid spam now not a single elixir use
Have to split my response to this vid into two posts. I'm already seeing tips that should work in both OG's and FM's versions of this fights. I generally prefer to use high-deflection Keyblades to fight Sephiroth. Sora doesn't stagger after blocking Sephy's sword strikes, and it gives you more recovery time to dodge or counter with your own blows. Makes for a pretty fast-paced fight, though. - If you block Sephy's standing slash with a high-deflection Keyblade, it leaves him wide open to Counterattack and a combo. I like to block or dodge Sephy's hopping strikes, and subtly move in until he does a standing strike and use Counterattack. Here's something to try: If you have Ultima, put up your guard right at the start of the fight. If Sephiroth uses a standing slash, you can Counterattack and combo him right then and there. Ultima is the only Keyblade in OG KH with the reach to pull this off right at the start of the fight (not sure about FM). - You can actually block his entire Chaotic Dance without getting hit with a high-deflection Keyblade. Just move about a third of the arena's length away from him when he's about to start it, start blocking when he's about to do his second slash, block three more times after recovering from each previous block, then block the final blow. Admittedly, I often have trouble timing the block on that final blow. :D - If you block Sephy's spin slash with a high-deflect Keyblade, you have more time to go after him wiith a combo of your own.
All you gotta do is get leaf bracer, bring up your defense to where you can tank multiple hits, also add the ability mp rage as well as mp haste. And from there spam curaga. Hit sepi when you can, spam curaga once you are low health and your golden. Easy method. Cheese
I'm still grinding on KH1, but I beat Sephiroth in KH2 a little while ago. Some abilities to have would be: -Guard -Arial Recovery -Arial Sweep -Combo Plus -Explosion -Slide Dash -Counterslash -Combo Master -Arial plus -Magnet Burst -Auto Limit -Leaf Bracer -Dodge Roll -High Jump -Glide -Item Boost -Reaction Boost -Second Chance -MP Haste -MP Rage
I know this video is a year old, but I'm going to add my own tips and tricks since I literally just beat this fight and it only took me about 4 tries. I had already synthesized the Ultima Weapon Keyblade, so I don't know if this works for all the Keyblades, but you can actually just continue to parry almost all of Sephiroth's attacks except for the area of effect ones like the explosions, the meteors, descend heartless angel, or his dark energy orbs. Literally you just need combo master, leaf bracer, elixirs(if you don't have those megaelixirs work too) and curaga magic. Once you parry his attacks you can either attack stagger him and then if he teleports to do a sword swing from above at you, you can either dodge roll out of the way or choose to take the hit(granted my level was in the high 80s when I did this fight so I probably had the advantage) and if he does his explosion attack, it will damage you twice, and you can use curaga on either of them for the I-frames then get some more free damage immediately after. It's possible this is because I was so high level and had the best keyblade in the game, but he only ever used Descend Heartless Angel 3 times and only one of the times I wasn't able to stagger him before he finished casting it and the halo appeared. But yeah, literally just keep attacking and parrying him and then staggering him and then dodging when he teleports to swipe you from above, then using curaga to avoid his high damage, area of effect, or and try to avoid getting caught in his Descend Heartless Angel, then you should be good. If you have a ton of health like I did you can take about 4-5 hits from most of his attacks before you even need to heal(except for the meteors, they'll get you in about 2-3 hits). Good luck fellow Keyblade Warriors.
@@KHGuides hey man i have a question, is it possible to change the game’s difficulty from final mix (standard) to proud mid game? i haven’t tried it but i think it’ll be fun to retighten some bosses on proud
Unfortunately, there's no way to change your difficulty in the middle of a playthrough. You'll need to start a new file and select Proud difficulty - good luck! 😉
@@KHGuides soo in bosses it doesn't make any dmg? Cause like i said. Sora's doing zantetsuken, but he passes through the sephiroth as if he did no damage
That's right! The ability technically deals 250% gravity damage to enemies when successful, but most bosses are immune to that type of damage. Sephiroth in particular is immune to all types of offensive magic.

The difference in how Sephiroth uses Flame Pillar in FM is probably the main reason why many have considered him tougher to fight in FM.

Next tutorials for Kh2?
It took me for 22 years to beat that guy and today I just beat him for the first time!!!
this secret boss stomped me so many times
Love the content!
Thank you John! 👍
I beat him few days ago for the 1st time but never again! I had save states, faith, trust and fairy dust but it's still unbelievably hard.
And then you play against him so many times that you can now beat him level 65 mid difficulty. Such a good feeling.
GREAT video subscribed
Sephiroth as a concept is so interesting because he's leagues more powerful than any other boss by far.
The speed of which he moves, his attack variety, the outright insane amount of damage he's able to commit, it's almost like he's from a completely different game.
So true! I love his inclusion as an optional boss in this series!
Damn, dodging Choatic dance (ive always called it Octaslash) this way is some straight Dark Souls shit.
watched this for help but when i started fighting i didn’t realize how over powered i was. i just wailed on him
yo think I beat him when I was younger is wild lol I must’ve really been a game fanatic I remember him whooping me out and I believe I learned his pattern and finally beat him
I WAITED 18 years for this!… still haven’t been able to beat him
Has anyone else noticed the similarities between chaotic dance and elden ring’s Waterfowl dance including the dodge pattern for the most part.
Guys thank you very much! I just discovered your channel but you already helped me finishing Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix. Keep it up, i'm sure i'm gonna need your help with the rest of "the story so far" collection 😂
I'm glad the videos have been helpful, Nevarnost! Thanks so much!
Another way to stop his heartless angel is to use Strike Raid when he's too far
I’m going to have to use that, thanks!
I’m really curious why he didn’t mention Lionheart if you don’t have Ultima Weapon. Is it because it’s exclusive to Final Mix?
You can cheese this fight with the key blade throw
Strike Raid is a great ability, isn't it? We cover some fun opportunities to use it in this tutorial! 😁
_You can cheese this fight with the key blade throw_
Depends _very_ much on what EXP level you're fighting him at. You're not going to get far spamming Strike Raid at level 65 and below.
@@Deined true but if you have a ton of MP it makes it a little easier
@@elementsmaster Which you won't really have at levels so low, not to mention the lack of attack power. I think you can have maybe 7-8 MP at most with EXP in the 60's. That's good for 3-4 Strike Raids per full MP bar. Even if you load yourself with elixirs, you're still gonna need to focus more on dodging/blocking/countering Sephy's attacks than just spamming Strike Raids on him.
I beat him on level 70 with the Kingdom Key, took me forever but I did it.
Wait, how do you have 71 strength (1:28), i have equipped everything exactly like you and im level 83 but i only do 53 damage
8:45 🎶DON'T GO CHASIN' SEPHIROTH🎶
ONe wiNGEd AngLE!
dEsCeNd hEaRtLeSs AnGel!
Hahaha you said one winged Angle not angel
@@thebonniebacon7082 i defeat sephiroth but i didn't get anything, so why???
So I did lock the keyhole to hallow bastion but for some reason didn't
It didn't unlock for me tho
after many attempts i get lucky just use ground combo and curaga i get around 50% dogde rate before i have problem with heartless angles phase when i use strike raid spam now not a single elixir use
- If you block Sephy's spin slash with a high-deflect Keyblade, you have more time to go after him wiith a combo of your own.
Would you say he's the strongest boss in the whole game?
All you gotta do is get leaf bracer, bring up your defense to where you can tank multiple hits, also add the ability mp rage as well as mp haste.
And from there spam curaga. Hit sepi when you can, spam curaga once you are low health and your golden. Easy method.
Cheese
The shadow orbs Are Actully called Shadow Flare
What version of one winged Angel is this
I remember as a kid flying around this stage just to avoid getting hit by the guy
🤣 He has a ridiculous amount of reach; he's so scary to fight!
How effective is using aero in this fight?
I'm still grinding on KH1, but I beat Sephiroth in KH2 a little while ago.
Some abilities to have would be:
-Guard
-Arial Recovery
-Arial Sweep
-Combo Plus
-Explosion
-Slide Dash
-Counterslash
-Combo Master
-Arial plus
-Magnet Burst
-Auto Limit
-Leaf Bracer
-Dodge Roll
-High Jump
-Glide
-Item Boost
-Reaction Boost
-Second Chance
-MP Haste
-MP Rage
Will you be doing the Unknown boss battle in Hallow Bastion?
We're working on that video now! 😊
This is it’s own science
I finished kingdom hearts one almost a month ago
Well done! I hope you had a ton of fun playing it - did you continue on to (Re)Chain of Memories?
Yes I am currently on re Cain of memories the combat is more difficult though
@@BillyBumBuh It certainly can be! We've got videos planned for Re:Chain of Memories as well - good luck on your playthrough! 👑💙✨
I wonder if the chaotic dance is omnislash...
I don't know what people are talking about, this was WAY easier than the one in KH2
I didn’t have elixirs so when he summoned meteors I used all my ethers to fill my mp so the last few minutes goes by smooth beat him after 4 tries
I still remeber as a kid getting him to legit nothing but u need a crit to win and i died twice that way LOL took me forever
NVM I FUCKING DID IT HOLY SHITTTTT
We knew you could do it, Cesar! Congrats on the win! 💪
A little question, sepiroth is immune to zantetsuken? In KH1. Cause everytime sora's do it, the atk doesn't give damage
That's correct! Zantetsuken has a 30% chance of instant-killing any lesser enemy (bosses are exempt).
Why does his health bar not go down in the beginning when you hit him?
He has more HP than the game can show you on-screen... 😱
