Honestly wouldn't be surprised if mm and mm2 were made so Nintendo could see what was possible in a 2d style.
Why are younger people so against 2D? I still love it.

Excellent review and summary! I definitely see a lot of Super Mario World and a mix of unique Mario Maker levels in this game and a lot of new enemies as you stated. Glad to hear the levels are named feel more organic and their own entity rather than World 6-3.

Fellow 1990 here theres tons of modern 8 bit 16 bit indie games that are as good if not better than the classic snes nes games we grew up with…definitely betterbthan this new mario game (it does look interesting though)

I agree with you about the difficulty - I've been playing Mario since the 80s, and I pride myself on my 2D skills... but a couple of levels on this had me dying 20 times in a row! (Especially the special world)
SO satisfying when you beat them though... awesome game!
I have to say, my favorite stages are the rhythm stages, the ones where the blocks disappear. Those are the most satisfying difficulty wise IMO.

The game was extremely easy man. That was my only issue it wasn’t up to Mario 3 or even Mario World difficulty.
Finally someone noticed! That my biggest issue. I went back to Tropical Freeze. The design is lame since all the Wonder effect take attention from the cheap design. That’s why they removed even score and timer to further streamline the game and that totally kills replayability. The 5 star levels could be done on first try-what the heck?!!!! This is the biggest disappointment of the year for me!
I'm halfway through this game. It is truly amazing on par with odyssey you guys have to get it!!

@updaterequired1173 I guess 9 hrs is good enough. I would have preferred a bit longer since I'm enjoying this game. You're right some part are really easy, but some are a bit challenging..I'm actually playing both Matirio Wonder and Super mario Bros u deluxe ( I know I'm late but after liking wonder i got deluxe as well) and I find Bros U to be more challenging than Wonder..In Bros U deluxe there time limit so that adds to the challenge
i was super critical and ignorant about it and you've actually kept me watching, the way you reference and showed some of the hidden stuff makes me realise how they're not actually too different from the smw on the snes.
Every hour or so, I keep checking my tracking number. lol not that it'll change that it'll be delivered tomorrow.
9:26 I have no issue with it being a 2D platformer… My issue is that it just doesn’t feel like a Mario game.

So I’m not dumping in the game at all it’s fantastic. But did anyone ever play Super Mario Run? I feel like they took that mobile game app and made it more robust and diverse and turned it into this game with so many more features.
The only complaint I have is the length of the game. Was able to 100% complete it over the weekend. Definitely quality over quantity. The level design is top notch and the most fun 2D Mario I played. Just hope Nintendo furthet supports Mario Wonder with DLC levels (and hopefully playable Waluigi) for years to come.
Jump jump jump is the bane of my existence , did you end up clearing it with the parachute hat (haven’t tried that yet)?
Honestly, the most useful ability for that one is the high jump. Just my opinion though.
My one small criticism of the game is the lack of challenge actually!

I'll be get'in BOTH Super Mario RPG & Bros Wonder for Christmas because I'm a big fan of MARIO including POKÉMON.
I might be getting it as well. It looks good. But I'm more ready to explore everything with Hogwarts legacy on the switch.

I can't get it right now but i will down the line along with Sonic Superstars..The creativity in this game is on another level. Just when you think Nintendo out done themselves and can't go further they prove us wrong..Later

I watched this yesterday and again today after playing for awhile. I agree with all of this.
I love Mario as 2D game. I grew up playing it in 2D and it's not gonna change that
Can't comment on much you've said, because I don't watch reviews so don't really know what was said beforehand, but I have to mention the difficulty; I think this is one of the easiest Mario games of all time, there's only 8 levels which are really tough and they're not essential to the main quest, and they're only really tough if you're going for completion (all wonder seeds, all big purple coins). Even then, Yoshi and Nabbit don't take damage, and you can select a badge that jumps you out of pits, so even the most novice player can get through the game with zero problem.
I was disappointed with the lack of levels after the main quest has ended, Final Challenge and Final, Final Challenge were not quite the challenge of other games. That is my only complaint though, overall, the game is fantastic and worth every penny. Personally, I think the new 2D era from New Super Mario Bros on the DS through to now is the best Mario has ever been.
I think Nintendo took super Mario maker sadistic levels and then toned them down a bit and put them in super Mario wonder. Because some of these levels are really easy too really hard. From what I can tell there is very little in between.

Great news! Very excited for the new Mario game. I make Stop Motion Animation using Nintendo figures and Retro Video Game figures, so always find your stuff very entertaining. Keep up the great work!

I’m an avid Mario game lover, so I bought the game. Watching your video it seems like we are playing two different games because Wonder seems so childish & the levels are easy to me. Maybe I haven’t played it long enough yet, but it appears dumbed down to appeal to younger players. I really hate how they changed the multiplayer with the crown.
Right on! Cheap design and totally streamlined experience and the wonder effect take attention away from deeper gameplay that older 2D games had. I am and old term fan and I got so mad they dumbed this game down so even inexperienced kindergarteners could handle it. It’s more on par with Super Mario Land 2 difficulty wise. Nowhere near SMB3 level. Big disappointment. Also removing the score and timer removes replayability! Hope after the hype dies, people will realise that it’s not a great game. DK Tropical Freeze is still miles above this in terms of overall quality.

It seems like a good challenge. What about the wonder enemies, they are considered bosses. Video game formulas are underrated.the next Mario game should be a 3d game. It’s a bit 3d. We need to go back to just biomes.

I’m sorry to say this but all the hype about this game is vastly overblown.
The game is easier than past entries.
What really drives me crazy about Mario Wonder is how much copy pasting they did everywhere in the game. You see copy pasta everywhere it’s so noticeable to me.
Why are the devs so lazy?
Totally agree, it’s too streamlined-that’s why they removed timer and score-which killed replayability and finishing 5star levels on first try? This game lacks depth of smb3. It shows that an inexperienced team worked on this since they try to draw your attention from all the flaws and cheap design with Wonder effects. This is a huge disappointment for me since I am a long term fan so I just started replaying Tropical Freeze again.
Indeed, Mario U is much better, bigger and challenging game (and also the older ones of course!!).. They went for the easy to fool game reviewers for this Wonder, i fun but not like a real Mario should be...
This game has put me at a loss for words, I only finally made it to the first castle but some levels by god I'm 33 going on 34 and I had to play one level probably a dozen times before I got everything and beat it!

I felt that the boss battles were the weakest and laziest part of the game. It's really just taking NSMB Bowser Jr. fights with a gimmick. I know I'll get hate for it, but even NSMBWii and U had more interesting boss battles I'd say.
U is a much better game, this is weak and a much more childish game.. The 2 -4 player is better in U also when you can jump on top of each others ..
@@Horrordelic well, I still enjoyed Mario Wonder. I think it's a pretty solid Mario game all things considered. But yeah, I had more fun with NSMBU.
Aesthetically, Wonder is a beautiful looking game, and I do enjoy the sights and sounds in it. Gameplay wise, just a bit too easy though.
The game is for 3 year olds. Levels are the easiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life and are also way too short
The cheap lazy ass difficulty killed it for me! Also removal of score and timer! Too streamlined and as you say- this is a game for people who have never played any platformers before-which is so lame! I wanted to enjoy the experience too but there is nothing for experience players. I could finish most 5star levels on first try. That sucks. Tropical Freeze is way better. Miles ahead of this.

Should I get Super Mario Bros Wonder?
This game is way too easy! The 5stars are on par with Mario Maker 2 25-30% completion levels-which you can easily do on first try for experienced gamers which is lame. Also the lazy design is shown through elimination of Timer and Score that streamlined it. Why does it matter? Because older Mario games let you kill enemies, destroy obstacles and finish fast- all these rewarded points that pushed the player to be more creative, make better choices, play better and more efficiently- this improving replayability. Removing all those is not easier for the player because they could let the player choose to play the arcade way and without it. Removing it completely shows laziness from the developers because you don’t need to design the gameplay, levels and enemies so precisely and carefully once you remove it. Look at DK Tropical Freeze- time challenges were all optional. This game uses graphical impressions to shift players attention away from weak design. I bet players will realise that in the future once the fresh cost of paint wears off. This is supper disappointing. Tropical Freeze is far better difficulty wise and this game fails big time for me as a long time Mario fan.

It's like an 8 out of 10 game but hard as he'll and game trolls 🧌 heavily. It's not as polished as many claim. Feels like devs wanted to punish at times or music levels are poorly done. Compared to Rayman games....Rayman beats it 100%

The way you judge difficulty already shows you are desperate for likes. You are an experienced player and you should have the guts to say it’s too easy! Anyone who played Mario Maker 2 knows what are hard levels- this game doesn’t have a single level that’s on par with MM2 5-10% completion rating. This game is more like MM2 25-30% rating- which can be done on first go! Cheap design, this is marketed towards kids only. Also all the claims that players can customise the difficulty is pure lie- every badge there just makes it even easier- except for the invisibility- and that’s cheap. Cheap design, and a big fail! Don’t let the Wonder Effect bling you from seeing the lazy cheap design.
