This channel was one of my first thoughts when the snow started falling in Houston/Gulf Coast area! Was waiting for this video and hope there are a few more. Hope you've thawed out by now Dustin.
I used to drive on the snow and ice in Wisconsin on worn out tires. Lots of slipping and sliding. Carry bags of sand, dirt, gravel, cat litter, whatever you have to throw under the tires if you get stuck. Bring your friends or family members along to add extra weight and to push your car out of whatever. Now they have tire socks. They’re easy to put on.
A word of advice from a snowy New Englander, get a big bag of kitty litter carry it in your trunk or bed of your truck for weight so you don't fish tale, and also it's good to use in case you get stuck you can use kitty litter to give your tires traction to get out of the snow. Edit --- you got more snow than we did in Vermont.
Kitty litter is basically clay. Put clay beneath spinning hot tires and you produce a lubricating substance, a slippery mess. If it doesn't work instantly, kitty litter is now kitty goo. Sand has grit, and doesn't do that. So keep the kitty litter for your little furry friends who are waiting for you to return with their treats.
😂that might work up there,,but this ice slush compounds with oil and grease,no traction keep your advice to N.E.,these folks just need to stay off the roads😂
Great job bro! Do yourself a favor and buy a kneeling pad from harbor freight. Your knees will appreciate it 😂. Be safe out there. I miss the snow just not working in it though.
@@TowMan127 As an apprentice Millwright, I was always hollered at for kneeling on hard surfaces without protection by elder Millwrights. One old fella told me, don’t be stupid like me, be smart and always put a pad down if you find yourself working while kneeling.
@ yup! I’ve been doing this for 25 years and I always tell everyone the same thing. My knees work fine thank God but the skin is super rough. Always take advice from an older person giving it 😂
i ran a wrecker in the sixties, i always said the only time i went on a call the weather was bad. i like your videos brings back lots of memories. keep them coming stay safe and may the angels ride with you'
Man that guy in the white suv had very little tread on his front left tire. Summer tires are bad enough in snow but almost bald tires are a hazard to everyone on the road.
Yup! Noticed that myself. Spend a lot of money on a car like that and then drive around on crappy tires. But hey, maybe insurance and towing charge are really really cheap down there.
@ Exactly, new all season tires would be a lot cheaper and more convenient than dealing with insurance and the associated premium hike. Where I live dedicated snow tires are a must for six months of the year.
It is so interesting to see the snow and ice there. I am from NE Ohio where this sort of weather is common, but I lived in Pearland for eight or so years, so I know how uncommon it is there.
Even here in the northern states, drivers have to re-learn winter driving all over again each season. As seldom as it snows down south, I expect it's still more of a problem.
As a Plow truck owner operator in Northern Ohio, i cant make sense of Snow that far south. Did i see the lady in truck stuck on nearly nothing? Ugg thats just backing out our driveway up here. 😂
Jake brakes work on changing engine rpm which changes power since yo rear wheels. On ice that is more than enough to lose traction and cause major issues. Ideally you want to slow down slowly using as little braking (of any kind) as you possibly can.
I'm 54 & grew up there & know these guys. I just lost everything during Hurricane Beryl & moved to Colorado, big snow here & -8° Everyone down runs all season or A/T's. This rarely happens down there near the beach in Brazoria County & when it does, it's only a day or 2 of bad conditions.
Not what you expect to see in south east Texas . I was born in and got my license in New York So I know the pitfalls of driving in those conditions Slow and easy is the way to go .
@@mrpips000 Dedicated snow rated tires and about 400lb of sand bags over the rear axle will solve that issue. Where I live that’s a common practice to be able to use our trucks in the winter.
If ya get a chance, run by 1330 CR 228 off E Kyle Rd & see if my old manufacturered home is still there please... I heard the owner sold it cheap. He was going to sign it over to me after hurricane Beryl but i didn't want it. Not worth $10k, imo. We packed our clothes after 54yrs in Brazoria County & headed 1300 miles North. 🤟
Dustin, I love your videos but PLEASE find another word for “guys”. It’s so overused on YT when talking to the camera! Gang, folks, my peeps, Dustinites- just mixing it up would be appreciated.

I accidentally hit someone driver side mirror and called my insurance. The owner called me so my insurance would replace the mirror. I could not believe my insurance went up for that. Next time I will pay for it myself.
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE
Good Saturday morning to you too.
Glad you know how to drive, take it easy and be safe.
Explorers tires were almost bald and that increases the slide into the concrete. Another great job Dustin.😊😊😊

Lady in Silverado worked really fine!
She definitely listened to instructions and that helped a lot.
I love the content brother keep them coming
Thanks for the double feature Dustin! ❤
Rumors are that in Europe there's ingenious invention called Winter tires.
Rumor has it, no one has those on the Texas Gulf Coast where this type of even has happened only 3-4 times in the last 30 years.
@@Towtruck_Dustinso its not legally required to have them in snowy conditions in texas?
Becareful stay safe! Nice recoveries. 😊
You’ve definitely inspired me to start towing and now…. I tow💯
I dropped a bowling ball on my toe. I had to call a toe truck.

So what you're saying is no used cat litter.😂😂😂😂. Just fooling around buddy.
Yes... the old fashioned clay kind. This new GREEN, earth friendly junk just turns to slippery mush in the snow and ice
@nighttow8780 that's good to know it's crappy.

Bald tires and ice make for a fun day on a skating rink, but scary and dangerous day on a highway, never cheap out on the family hauler

A two-fer video......great job on both Dustin.
Nice snow ❄️ video
that is just enough to give you four wheel slide
We got about a foot of snow up in WV. I just uploaded a video of a guy who slid off the road and went 60' into a ravine lol Great video as always!
Nice work looking good 👍👍👍👍👍✌️

We live in Kingwood Texas and we loved the snow other than the fact that we could not drive because of snow and ice.
No tire tread, ice wins every time.

Extra gloves in the cab to dry and heat.
Wouldn't the engine brake be useful 8n the snow because it will gradually slow you down instead of press brakes. Less chance to lock up?
But your goal is to go fast fast fast so you can get to the donut shop quickly. Why would you want to slow down?
On ice it can spin the drive axles backwards so not really a good idea. Snow not so bad if you have a load on could get sketchy empty
@SuperBobblehead77 oh I didn't know that

Studded tires would work well in that.
Too much for for something you might only use a few times out of who knows how long. We’ve only had events like this 3 times in the last 30 years.
He going be next one 😂😂😂😂😂
Snow snow snow your boat. Lmao. Mother nature has other plans🎉

Do you or does your company run dedicated winter tires on it's trucks? or it all of Texas pretty much all season tires or even summer tires?

Kind of comical to watch people drive in snow that never see snow.
A lot of the folks can barely drive in good conditions, let alone rain or snow.
You should invest in some knee pads.
