iPhone 5/5S/SE were classic Apple iPhones that was the true vision of Steve Jobs how a phone should basically look like and serve a specific purpose. Interestingly, he hated big screen and even said at one such Apple event, “who needs a large screen on a phone” during the race of big screens on phones. Today, Apple seem to be going completely opposite to Steve’s vision of a phone to catch up with the competition and stay in business which, well, is the need of the hour. No wonder, big screen meant improved video experience which in turn meant more subscriptions based services. And indeed, Apple today is making more money off its subscription based services than the iPhones itself. Still, I so long for these legendary iPhones - not because it was Steve’s vision of how a phone should look like but it’s reminiscent of the period when phones were just exactly that size.
The race of big screens? In Jobs’ lifetime? Screens started to become larger (over 4.5in) after Jobs died... Having said that for Jobs 3.5in was already “huge”. But I wouldn’t call anything smaller than a Samsung S3 / iphone 6 screen a large screen, even by the standards of the time...
Digitalguy : Probably you missed that Chinese were already far ahead in the race of big screens on phones and were some of the first players to bring large screens on phones. There’s a world outside America and it’s big and far competitive.
I'm somewhat with Steve here, I want a capable phone for the pocket. If I need a larger screen there are computers and tablets... But I guess that's just me given that the iPhone 6-8 size is the last "small" phone size and you will struggle to find really pocketable phones nowadays, not just iPhones... That said the phone shouldn't be smaller than the SE ;)

While I never owned smaller iPhones (4, 4s, 5, 5S, SE) and switched directly to 5.5” iPhone 7 Plus from the good old king of small screens - Nokia, I so long for one these days. As said, small screen phones just serve the right purpose, though, bigger screen paved the way for more interesting and intuitive platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook etc and most importantly subscription based services for more enhanced video experience. That’s what the entire purpose of Apple behind switching to larger screen on iPhone. Yes, they make more money off subscription based services than their most popular hardware - iPhones. Interestingly, I found Nokia 6600 still on sale on one of the e-commerce site at my place. And it’s only 1 left. I’m gonna grab it before it’s gone forever.
This is the most beautiful phone ever. It still has the "handwriting" of Steven Jobs. I just bought a used 2nd one and I will use the SE as long as technically possible.

Bought my youngest daughter this phone a few years ago when it came out. I asked her if she wanted the new iphone 11, and she turned it down. I asked why and she said she likes the size of the SE and it has everything she needs. i just updated her to iOS13.3 and her battery life was better along with all the other upgrades iOS 13 has.
Hunter Kennedy battery’s do great. Depending on what your doing. Of course TH-cam eats up any battery. Talking on the phones is great and the battery is great. When buying a SE, find out the battery capacity %. I bought one phone with 98% capacity and the other with 89%. Batteries are also easy to replace on the SE and is reasonably cheap. Of course it’s all about the apps and how many you have.

I love my iPhone SE. I have no desire to use one of those giant tablet phones that don't fit in my pocket. I just upgraded from iOS 12.3.1 to 13.3.1 and it seems to be working fine.
Love this Apple iPhone Design. Currently own 2 of these SE. I use one as a WiFi only device. Works great with email, I message, phone calls, and social media. Can’t believe it runs iOS 13 like a dream.

Towards the end, I would have to charge by mid-day. Depending on usage. It wasnt terrible and since I was at work all day, I wasn’t using it as heavy. Would it have lasted me through 2020 if I didn’t upgrade, yes. Sorry if that was lengthy
Been using the SE since March 2017 as my primary phone. I usually do texting, facebook, messenger, IG, twitter, safari, youtube. Not really a gamer. My SE usually lasts about 6-8 hours of continuous data. Battery health is at 84%. Honestly, I’m still satisfied with its performance. If it supports ios14, I might keep it for another year. But if not, I might upgrade to 11 or possibly the SE2.
I had this phone,but it got damaged when it fell into a pool. One of the best phones I ever had. It runs pretty fast and smooth. It’s nice and small,and easy to just slip in any pocket.
I still use my SE, this being my first iPhone I can’t compare it to anything. However I will say it was been extremely durable, it still performs really well, and the design is beautiful. I really hope this design aesthetic finds its way into the future. The design will see me holding out with the SE till I can’t anymore.

I just watched this because i used to own a iPhone SE, i dropped it a week ago, and screen got unresponsive. Man i miss this phone so much, i however bought the iPhone 8 (not the plus model). I like it as the performance is really good, but man i still miss that form factor, hope apple brings it back.
I had an SE from 2018 to 2020 when I just bought an XR, but the thing is that I really really recommend the phone. The camera is still great, performance is still really good. The only thing that I did not liked was battery life. But at beginning was great. The charging speed was decent for how small the phone is . I still use it to play music because of the headphone jack. Yes the speakers on my XR are amazing but this one has the headphone jack so I can plug in stereo or whatever and I really like that .
I have both SE and 6s It’s great and I maintain the battery both of my phone.. Been a year i bought the 6s on 2019 Jan (bought it as used phone) tho the user use it as a 2nd phone so no issue with the phone and the battery was replaced under iphone battery replacement programme before the program expires on 31st Dec 2018..
I SE is just a classic. I love the size and it is good for people that do not want to spend as much time looking at their phone. I am really trying to cut down on my usage and the SE does that for me. The battery isn't great but will get you through a average day. Keep in mind you will not be using this phone as much so the battery will last longer. I really wish that they kept this form factor and size, but I'm sure Apple did the research and found that 4.7 will sell more units... But if the SE2 (or 9) is going to be 4.7... I will just buy and iPhone 8 and save the money
I used the iPhone SE for 2 weeks waiting on my iPhone 11 Pro Max . And I loved the size! Being able to use your phone 1 handed is an absolute JOY! The only reason I can’t keep it is due to battery as I use for work and unfortunately the battery can’t cope with my work load, because I’m out and about with work I can’t get to a charger. If batteries lasted longer and I had the iPhone 11 Pro Max Camera I’d switch in a heartbeat. Also I just used the iPhone 7 for about 3 hrs yesterday and in my opinion that’s the perfect size.
Had the SE from day one, great phone, ideal size. The new model is a touch larger but will be the replacement I have been waiting for. Need a bigger screen? Not for me. That’s what I bought the iPad Pro for.
Well I was able to get a brand new one with 128GB two months ago, unopened case, not a refurb, brand new! Absolutely love it, the size is perfect and is updating to IOS 13.xx I was also tired of lugging around a huge phone!
If your on a cheap budget for a good iphone, the iPhone SE and 6s are definitely worth it. Rumours are saying it may even get an extra year of support with iOS 14 and in my opinion, they are still really fast devices with decent cameras and displays!
I just got a Apple refurbished SE from a friend who bought a lot of 1,000 from Apple while they were selling them. He’s done selling them on e-Bay, must have made a fortune. He won’t tell me. I really do like this phone. I bought a case for it (Otter Defender) and WOW. iOS is 13.3.1, and it sounds silly, but what a “happy” little phone. It’s fast, screen is crystal clear, and what an amazing job Apple (or their refurbishment partner) did on this phone. Not a scratch or issue with it. 128 GB, it has plenty of space for all kinds of apps. Battery life is excellent, and it has the same processor as my old reliable 6s Plus. Win. I’m using your excellent video on saving battery life, and that made a huge difference. I think the screen is a huge battery drainer, so have it set up like you suggested. This SE is a winner. Both my daughters asked me to get them one, and they both have 8 Plus iPhones. I found that kinda funny. I like it because of its performance and it’s size and how powerful that A9 processor is with the smaller screen. Honestly, if Apple created an SE II, with the A10 or A11 processor and 256 GB max memory, in the original (or maybe just slightly (very slightly)) form-factor, they would sell like flap-jacks and they’d have to make a second manufacturing run. I was sad the 5 wasn't still supported. That's by far my favorite iPhone before they made every corner of this thing glass and breakable. I was happy when my buddy informed me that the SE was based on the 5. Ordered a lot cheaper than my $1000 X, that I just sold for $375 to pay my tuition down.
It will be a vintage this year with iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. While on iPhone 8, it will continues to iOS 15 which began on iOS 11 getting its third version this year and the next for its version..
I would go one step further and talk about the iPhone 4S as the optimal Legacy Budget iphone. The design of the 4S with it's easy to detach back-glass panel (two screws) is future proof. I mean, third party manufacturers or amateurs even could develop replacement backs (3D printed) with extended functionality. I recently bought a transparant plastic back and it looks awesome. But why not make a back with a wireless charging coil and the connector to fit both standard battery and the mainboard. Sort of an upgrade i already made with the connector of an old tear-down battery. Another possibility would be to create a whole range of slide-on tools and accessories to a dock-back-plate. Placing a thicker internal battery and even an option to use standard rechargeable batteries if the back would extend the thickness of the phone with up to 10 mm. It's all possible with an iPhone 4S.
Nice one ....yeah I still got my iPhone SE I use it during my runs...I have all my music and podcasts and a app that tracks my distance and speed and I think it’s better than the watch and so I haven’t gotten a watch for that reason ... a great little phone
The SE for me was the best smartphone produced. It does everything that 90% of people need, lightweight, though, easy to use one handed, a decent enough point and shoot camera that is with you all the time and the design has never been bettered! I just hope the rumoured small iPhone 12 happens, as that will be the closest to the SE size we can expect, as the upcoming 9/SE2 is still too big, and probably too heavy as well.
This is still my fave iPhone ever, the design is flawless. Kinda wish I had the pink one but I love my space grey as well. Just sad that it will eventually start to slow down and become useless once it's not supported by the latest iOS, that's just the Apple way...
It's 2020 and I just bought my first iPhone on a budget. I found a brand new rose gold iPhone SE 32g 2016 for $100 and I love it. Maybe I will upgrade a year from now it's on iOS 13.5.1 which is good enough for me right now

It’s great and I maintain the battery both of my phone..
Been a year i bought the 6s on 2019 Jan (bought it as used phone) tho the user use it as a 2nd phone so no issue with the phone and the battery was replaced under iphone battery replacement programme before the program expires on 31st Dec 2018..
I SE is just a classic. I love the size and it is good for people that do not want to spend as much time looking at their phone. I am really trying to cut down on my usage and the SE does that for me. The battery isn't great but will get you through a average day. Keep in mind you will not be using this phone as much so the battery will last longer. I really wish that they kept this form factor and size, but I'm sure Apple did the research and found that 4.7 will sell more units... But if the SE2 (or 9) is going to be 4.7... I will just buy and iPhone 8 and save the money

I used the iPhone SE for 2 weeks waiting on my iPhone 11 Pro Max . And I loved the size! Being able to use your phone 1 handed is an absolute JOY! The only reason I can’t keep it is due to battery as I use for work and unfortunately the battery can’t cope with my work load, because I’m out and about with work I can’t get to a charger. If batteries lasted longer and I had the iPhone 11 Pro Max Camera I’d switch in a heartbeat. Also I just used the iPhone 7 for about 3 hrs yesterday and in my opinion that’s the perfect size.
This is a wonderful phone and works like how a phone or any iPhone is supposed to work I recommend this 100%
The battery was never the strongest seat on this phone since the initial.
TSMC chip ones have better battery than SAMSUNG chip ones.. yours must be on SAMSUNG
Love my SE wish that they will bring back a newer version. My only complaint is that the battery life leaves a lot to be desired.

Had the SE from day one, great phone, ideal size. The new model is a touch larger but will be the replacement I have been waiting for. Need a bigger screen? Not for me. That’s what I bought the iPad Pro for.

Well I was able to get a brand new one with 128GB two months ago, unopened case, not a refurb, brand new! Absolutely love it, the size is perfect and is updating to IOS 13.xx I was also tired of lugging around a huge phone!

Have it for two years now, the battery is at 91%, in all its a good phone.
If your on a cheap budget for a good iphone, the iPhone SE and 6s are definitely worth it. Rumours are saying it may even get an extra year of support with iOS 14 and in my opinion, they are still really fast devices with decent cameras and displays!

I just got a Apple refurbished SE from a friend who bought a lot of 1,000 from Apple while they were selling them. He’s done selling them on e-Bay, must have made a fortune. He won’t tell me.
I really do like this phone. I bought a case for it (Otter Defender) and WOW. iOS is 13.3.1, and it sounds silly, but what a “happy” little phone. It’s fast, screen is crystal clear, and what an amazing job Apple (or their refurbishment partner) did on this phone. Not a scratch or issue with it. 128 GB, it has plenty of space for all kinds of apps. Battery life is excellent, and it has the same processor as my old reliable 6s Plus. Win.
I’m using your excellent video on saving battery life, and that made a huge difference. I think the screen is a huge battery drainer, so have it set up like you suggested.
This SE is a winner. Both my daughters asked me to get them one, and they both have 8 Plus iPhones. I found that kinda funny. I like it because of its performance and it’s size and how powerful that A9 processor is with the smaller screen.
Honestly, if Apple created an SE II, with the A10 or A11 processor and 256 GB max memory, in the original (or maybe just slightly (very slightly)) form-factor, they would sell like flap-jacks and they’d have to make a second manufacturing run. People do like this small form factor a lot!

I own one and I love it.
I was sad the 5 wasn't still supported. That's by far my favorite iPhone before they made every corner of this thing glass and breakable. I was happy when my buddy informed me that the SE was based on the 5. Ordered a lot cheaper than my $1000 X, that I just sold for $375 to pay my tuition down.
It will be a vintage this year with iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. While on iPhone 8, it will continues to iOS 15 which began on iOS 11 getting its third version this year and the next for its version..
I would go one step further and talk about the iPhone 4S as the optimal Legacy Budget iphone. The design of the 4S with it's easy to detach back-glass panel (two screws) is future proof. I mean, third party manufacturers or amateurs even could develop replacement backs (3D printed) with extended functionality. I recently bought a transparant plastic back and it looks awesome. But why not make a back with a wireless charging coil and the connector to fit both standard battery and the mainboard. Sort of an upgrade i already made with the connector of an old tear-down battery. Another possibility would be to create a whole range of slide-on tools and accessories to a dock-back-plate. Placing a thicker internal battery and even an option to use standard rechargeable batteries if the back would extend the thickness of the phone with up to 10 mm. It's all possible with an iPhone 4S.
Nice one ....yeah I still got my iPhone SE I use it during my runs...I have all my music and podcasts and a app that tracks my distance and speed and I think it’s better than the watch and so I haven’t gotten a watch for that reason ... a great little phone

The SE for me was the best smartphone produced. It does everything that 90% of people need, lightweight, though, easy to use one handed, a decent enough point and shoot camera that is with you all the time and the design has never been bettered! I just hope the rumoured small iPhone 12 happens, as that will be the closest to the SE size we can expect, as the upcoming 9/SE2 is still too big, and probably too heavy as well.

This is still my fave iPhone ever, the design is flawless. Kinda wish I had the pink one but I love my space grey as well. Just sad that it will eventually start to slow down and become useless once it's not supported by the latest iOS, that's just the Apple way...

It's 2020 and I just bought my first iPhone on a budget. I found a brand new rose gold iPhone SE 32g 2016 for $100 and I love it. Maybe I will upgrade a year from now it's on iOS 13.5.1 which is good enough for me right now
