    That was a very useful set if insights. I don't want a demo of the rider modes, the dashboard and all that. I just want to know how it feels, and you guys made that abundantly clear. Exactly the kind of content I enjoy most. Thank you.

      It's green and silver. The gold wheels that were shown on the Verde S model in many early videos didn't make it to production, they are reserved for the base models for some reason.

    • @johncallow22
      @johncallow22 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingkrimson8771 Perhaps as the S has gold stanchions, Guzzi didn't want to have too much gold on the bike.
      I have a V7 850 in Centenario colours, which I like very much.
      Having ridden a base model V100 in March, I am undecided whether to buy one; I may ask the dealer for another test ride.

    Nice review, interesting conclusions and it certainly looks like a competitor for the R1250R and RS models. The S version is very appealing and looks lovely. I agree that it sounds nicer than the boxer engines but I'd bet most people wouldn't be disappointed with either an R1200/1250 or a V100 Mandello. They're both superb bikes. Strangely, the R1250RS and 1200 versions are considered to be the best BMW road bikes ever made yet they're still very much under the radar. They've been largely unappreciated since the LC models were first released but more people do now seem switched onto them. The Mandello has definitely moved things on a generation for Guzzi. If I had room for another bike in the garage, it would be a V100 Mandello

    wandered into A and D ‘s, some weeks ago, to see what all the fuss is about , only to have the keys dangled at me. Best bike I’ve ever ridden ?……..it needed a very short test ride to emphatically confirm just that !
    Need to put into context ……previously owned steeds include Kawasaki ZZR 1100, supercharged Ninja SX , Aprilia Tuono factory , MV Turismo , not to mention two Guzzi’s etc etc
    Never felt so at one with a machine in such a short space of time ….. and yes , it made one immediately want to disappear to the south of France ….. well Italy actually .
    Great video …. with sensible comments and observations . Well done 👌
    P.S. What an engine …. more like a turbine !

    Hi Guy's, I really enjoy the group & your efforts in creating these nice videos for us. Being 71.5yy., I guess that I would fit in your group except for the accent. However I cannot get along with the times & all of the changes. I'm stuck in a time warp called the past. I own a 1999 M.G. Cal Bassa, a 2007 M.G. Cal Vintage, & I also pull a Bushtec trailer behind my Vintage. Included with all of this I have my wife as a passenger. My wife has me on a strict regiment of vitamins for years now which has contributed to my excellent health. These things can change over night when you get to our age, but as long as things stay as they are I will continue with same program. I'm not knocking technology as to each their own. A week ago I did purchase another bike which is a Kawasaki W800. Yep- old school looking just like me & I love it!!! You all have a beautiful day-cheers mate! Illinois, USA

    Thank you, gentlemen, for your entertaining reviews even though I'm out of your league. I had a thing for old cars but they are big, use a lot of space. So, 3 years ago I decided to have a go at motorbikes and bought a Guzzi Cardellino 73cc 1962. Never ridden a bike before, it was a thrill😊l. I'm overhauling it (fuel tank, carburetor, tyres, chain) and trying to bring it back to life. Thanks for the videos, no point in wishing I'd started earlier whith bikes.

    You guys are killing me. I almost convinced myself that after 40 years of owning everything from Velocettes to Vespas, I didn't need one of these in my life. Now I'm torn. The only problem may be the seat height and the knee spacing problem. I own a LeMans and after about ten Kms Its like a medieval torture device. Pain in the hips and knees hitting the cylinder heads. The Mandello does have a higher seat option which may ease the pain in my hips. Thanks for the best review I've seen so far.

    I like you guys love Moto Guzzi's, but I too can't help but think Honda did it all in the late 70's early 80's with the CX500 /650 and turbo range, obviously they didn't handle like this V100 but they were still great bikes in their day. I actually still ride a cx500 (1978) and a Moto Guzzi Bellagio (2007) and both never fail to put a smile on my face when I ride them. I did contemplate trading my Bellagio for a new V7 850 but came to my senses and just put a V7 tank and seat on my Bellagio as it was a far cheaper option. Maybe when the V100 becomes available on the used market I might have to have a serious think about one. Keep up the great reviews, always look forward to seeing them.

    Great to see a new video out, and I’m glad chose the Guzzi V100 to come back with.
    I think it looks a breath of fresh air from the ‘space ship’ looking offerings from other manufacturers. I’m not a fan of the aero, or the exhausts coming out of the sides rather than the front of the cylinders. Other than that, I think it’s a cracking looking bike, and I’d buy one if I could. I’d be interested in how a pillion would fair comfort wise on a trip, after all, that’s what sports tourers used to be all about.
    Keep up the good work.

    I have a Mandello S on order, it should arrive towards the end of May. Sitting on one of the base models in a dealer's showroom I also found the seat-to-peg dimension a little cramped (I'm six foot one) so I have ordered the accessory high heated seat - which, for an OEM part, is quite reasonably priced.

I must admit, when it came out I was sold on the looks, just beautiful. The only thing I’m not keen on is the change on exhaust header position. I understand it gives more room for inlet components, but still, in my opinion, the pipes just don’t look right that way. Great video again chaps. I have always liked how Moto guzzi still looks like a normal motorcycle and not something designed by a drunken Japanese anime. The hydraulic valve adjustment eliminates the need for valve adjustment . Wissenschaft drive you don't have the needless expense of change and sprockets. Basically all you have to do is change the oil and gearbox fluid and final drive and you're done. I love the fact that all of the factory workers demanded that Moto guzzi stay in the original factory in lake mondello in Italy. Like tecate it is a real Italian bike made in Italy. In China like the so-called Benelli

      Interesting comment because Guzzi famously has done what are in my opinion the ugliest bikes from any manufacturer simply to fit in with the fake Harley cruiser scene. They've also pigeon holed themselves with their weezy V7's for marketing so I look at anything Guzzi does in modern times with skepticism. I've owned a mid 70's 1st series 850 Le Mans for nearly 20 years now, have owned a Magni kitted V11 Sport and have ridden plenty of Griso's and these are the bikes Guzzi needs to return to. The past decade Guzzi has lost their way so hopefully this Mandello foots that bill. I also own Ducati's and they consistently foot that bill for customers and fans which Guzzi hasn't.

      No clutch was smooth as silk on this one

    • @johnybigarms
      @johnybigarms ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah finally someone has mentioned the clutch feel, I have a red V100 with 875 miles and the clutch has a odd mechanical clatter feeling through the lever at slow speed control, almost as though the lever is dry of grease, and the clutch mechanism has a loose set of clutch plates when you feather the clutch at slow manoeuvres, it’s agricultural, fast gear changes on the move you don’t notice it, but if you turn the engine off and pull in the clutch it’s buttery smooth, so I can only put it down to the mechanics of the clutch passing it’s way through the hydraulics and into the lever.
      One other oddity for me is the the clutch has a slight delay in biting when you release the lever between gear changes, as if the biting point is slowly brought back in, I find it almost dim witted and I have had to slow down my gear changes to hide the lazy clutch release.
      Lastly, I went to my local dealer to try the clutch feel on their demo, and it felt the same at tick over, a horrible clatter feeling through the lever in neutral at idle, so it’s not just my bike, their demo was a S model.
      I hope others can comment

I installed ROX adjustable 18:30 risers which has made the riding position and comfort superb. It is also the best bike I have ever ridden, my Audace was pretty good but this is far better. I had to put later bars on the Audace to make it comfortable for my wrists. I also have a V7, a lll Special. Good bike but totally different than the Mandello, night and day. Brilliant stuff chaps, Mike, (or maybe Dave if he is the technical expert of the gang) maybe you can clear something up for me. I've been looking at pictures and online reviews, both written and video ride reviews of the v100 Mandelo with great interest ever since reading Dave Richardson's excellent article about it that i sent to you, but one thing is bothering me and i hope you can clarify for me. That is the back end. I haven't managed to find any cutaway pictures or technical drawings, so i'm only judging from pictures of the outside, but it looks to me like a rigidly mounted final drive like the Tonti frame Guzzis, pre spine frame, pre-carc frame, which seems a real backward step to me. As you know I've been a big fan of floating drive box Guzzis for 30+ years since riding a Magni, then 25 years ago i built my own monoshock floating drive box Guzzi based on pictures i'd seen of the Daytona race bike, Jim Blomley Tonti framed race bike, Raceco Chris Clarke Tonti framed race bike, it worked brilliantly. Years later i bought a used 1100 sport which also worked brilliantly, and just a few weeks ago, as you know i bought a cheap do-er-upper Griso 1100 which is my first experience of the carc back end, and that has been a revelation, fantastic handling bike, on my first test ride i deliberately tried my best to upset it and get the shaft drive to misbehave, but try as i might it was flawless, i could take the tight bends on a twisty coastal road i know faster and with more confidence than i can on my brilliant Ducati Multistrada 1000 or Ducati m900!!! But looking at the Mandelo v100 it looks like it is more like an update of the old LeMans Tonti type swing arm with one u/j at the front and the drivebox and swing arm all one rigid piece. I see no torque arm or movable joint between the final drive and swing arm. Am i wrong, is there a floating arrangement in there or has Guzzi gone back to shaft jacking of old albeit with maybe less effect thanks to the much longer swing arm?

    • @waveydavey750
      @waveydavey750 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, so Mike asked me to answer this one Ion, thanks Mike! As I understand it, yes you are correct, there is no anti jacking linkage as in the Spine frames and CARC equipped Guzzis. And yes, it does rely partly on the longer swing arm. However I would add 4 additional points.
      1/ The swing arm is MUCH longer than, say, the 1100 sport and V11 spine frames (I've owned both) which were regarded as too short by current standards (quoted in a Cycle World test of the Scura for example). This is due to the shorter block in the v100 (4 inches shorter than say the V85 even), and also the pivot point is on the block, not the frame.
      2/ The pivot point of the swing arm (from the block) is lower, I haven't worked out why this lessens the jacking effect, but it does!! You probably understand this better than me?
      3/ Having ridden the v100 (and the v85 which I own) I would say the dynamics of these bikes are so far ahead of even the CARC generation (I've owned a Griso - good, and a 1200 Sport - let down by cheap suspension), and especially the spine frames (which are fine on smooth roads but a handful on anything bumpy in my experience), it's untrue! So jacking, even if it still exists, really doesn't enter the picture.
      4/ When I replaced a faulty clutch pushrod in Mike's old Griso, I was shocked how much the CARC unit weighed, unsprung weight at that. I am guessing the final drive units on the V100 and v85 are half the weight, just a guess, So summary, it all works whatever the theory and these late generation guzzis are truly lovely handling bikes, try one, there is no downside handling wise.

    • @Drakos99
      @Drakos99 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waveydavey750 Hi Dave, thanks for your answer, and yes i guessed the jacking must be negligible if present at all or you would have mentioned it, knowing as i do that you're a quick rider and experienced with Guzzis from your t3 cali to the Griso 8v. I agree the swing arm length and also ratio of swing arm length to wheelbase must make a huge difference. I suspect you are right about the weight and especially unsprung weight of the CARC system being a factor in why it was not adapted for the v100. i have had dozens of Guzzis and one of the 3 I currently have is a highly modified 1975 s3 (race tuned 950 motor, more modern front end, 4.5x17 rear wheel etc etc...) and rode it again about a week ago after riding the new to me griso 1100 a few times and really enjoying that, i was expecting my old 's3' to be a disappointment but it really wasn't, if anything it felt even quicker than the Griso (not in twisty bends) and i wondered if that could be in part the lighter reciprocating mass in the motor (lightened crank, alloy timing gears, very light clutch) and the immediate effect of the pumper carbs verses the Griso efi... then i considered over all weight, so weighed my 's3' and with a nearly full tank it was just 200kg (despite me building it more for comfort than lightness) which is a lot lighter than the Griso, looking at the Griso i couldn't see where all that extra weight could be... we're talking 30 or 40kg!!! so i guessed (not having had one apart) that the whole carc back end must be much heavier than i realised. given my love of Guzzis for the last 35 years and the way you all raved about the v100 i think you're right, i'll have to get a go on one soon, though can't see me getting one for a few years til they become an affordable second hand proposition. for now i'll keep enjoy the 3 Guzzis and 3 Ducati powered bikes i have and see what i can do about making the Griso go even better. cheers, keep up the good work, Ion.

    Ok..........the exhaust (I know the engineers probably have some excuse). It looks like a withered arm. It should exit the front per tradition and aesthetics. I am surprised not to have seen any other comments about this. Come on you are Italian.

      The exhausts exit that way to aid breathing if the engine as per the newer bmw boxers
      So it oroduces power meets emissions etc…

    The new touring adv bikes like the GS, Noreen and now the Stelvio are still a better choice for touring

    It cant be Guzzi’s best bike as it lacks the character of the early 80ies big blocks.

    • @LemonDrizzleGang
      @LemonDrizzleGang  ปีที่แล้ว

      It still retains a good dollop of character of the old 70s bigblocks see our review of the T3 California
