I'm a high school teacher. They really do put kids in Special Ed classes who don't need to be in there. There's a difference between a learning disability and behavior/emotional challenges (although there are times when these things intersect). This is a great video. Real funny too.
In the 80's they used to put even physically disabled kids in special Ed. I was one of them. They treated you like you had a learning disability. I did so well on the tests that they had to "mainstream" me. It's sad but many kids got stuck there and didn't get the level of education they should have creating a whole new set of problems on top of their physical handicap. I remember one kid was just a burn victim. Nothing else was wrong with him other than some serious burns that required him wearing a mask for the swelling.
Lol had a racist ass teacher that hated me in 6th grade, so she recommended me for the “slow” English class in 7th grade… literally was the easiest class ever, the teacher knew it was BS and then I had to go back to regular English the next semester smhhh

I was put in a special Ed class in high school once. Don’t even know why but at the time they did that to any students that had just come from a different country and didn’t know the language. The thing is I grew up in this country (Australia) and already knew English pretty well but I guess they took one look at my skin(black/African) and just assumed lmao. I was just chillin in that class for about 2 days wondering how smooth sailing and easy high school work really was, just sitting in class doing nothing and spending luxurious time looking outside the window which is heaven 🤩 for an introvert 😂. It wasn’t until we did some writing that the teacher called me to the front and was like “why are you here? You’re not supposed to be here 🧐”, I was so confused like “why am I in class? What does she mean by that? 🥴”, then I got transferred to a different class that same day. It took me 2 years to learn that I was actually in a special Ed class after hearing other teenagers point and say “look that’s the special Ed class coming out to have their lunch”, I had to ask them what’s that and why’s it called that? 🤦🏾♀️😩
Yk, they could’ve placed you in a resource classroom for both English and ELA, or just general education. You’re smart enough, so there’s no logic behind it. There can also be in class support in the regular Ed classes just so they don’t have any trouble learning a specific topic.
I didn't find this funny at all but really heartbreaking and so reminiscent of what I recall in the public schools. Too often, this is the reality, especially for our Black young boys and youth. As parents and those of us who care, we must begin at home with shaping the minds and thoughts of our children about the value of education and refusing to let anyone determine the outcome of their future. "Playing around and clowning" is how the "tracking" and programming for Special Education classes begin in schools--at the earliest possible grade. Let's not make this a reality for the next generation. This really brought back some difficult and sad memories during my teaching and "fighting the stereotype" days in education. I was put in special classes in 4th grade when I wasn’t supposed to be there, so this video hit close to home. Mind you, I was the only black kid in my grade. My best friend at the time (I’ll call him Robby) was in special ed, and was in it for years. I’m not sure what they said his issue was but he seemed normal to me. He’d be in the regular classes with us, but then at some point every day, he’d be taken to the special classes. One day, he said “I’m not going!” They asked him again and he said the same thing. They kept begging and pleading with him to go, then they asked Robby what could they do to get him to go. He said “I’m not going unless my friend comes with me.” He was talking about me. They asked me “hey, can you go to the special class with Robby? He said he won’t go unless you go.” And I went with him. They kept me there for the rest of the year, and then the next year, they kept me in that class too. I remember complaining about it, but they kept me in it. Finally, when I got to middle school, they gave me a test, and I passed it with flying colors I guess and they told me “you were never supposed to be in these classes,” and I said something like “that’s what I’ve been trying to tell y’all!” The fact that they kept me in there for a whole year and a half after that one day reminds me of Kanye’s third verse in his song We Don’t Care. I was in remedial math in HS and all we did in class was play flash cards and stare at a board. Fell so behind that in order to graduate, I had to do online school senior year. Some teachers are very lazy.
In 7th grade I was put in a Special Ed because I talked too much in class. Every time the bell rang to change classes the kids in the hall while walking by would put their faces in the glass window in the door and make faces at us. I hated it. They throw so many kids in those classes that don't belong there like they did me.
As a person who was in special education classes from 7th to 12th grade I can tell you I felt like Albert Einstein or professor hawking. 🧠 I was ahead of the pack.
I have a learning disability and was in a few special ed classes throughout middle school and high school. Think I REALLY didn't appreciate tho was some of the teacher talking to me like I had something else like down syndrome or autism or whatever making me feel some sort of way, like nah I may have a learning disability but talk to me like I'm just another adult.
Yeah, same here. I also have a learning disability, but everyone learns a different pace. I remember when I told a therapist that I have a learning disability and she told me it’s a “learning ability, not disability”sometimes you just have to think another way around for you to not think negative about yourself. And I know it’s hard because others who are very ignorant to not understand that everybody’s different everyone learns differently.
I was in Special Ed from K-8th grade. But then in High School, I was put into regular classes, although sometimes I would still have services for Speech but that's it.
They really wanted to put me in there in 5th Grade because to them I never seemed to grasp the material being taught. Truthfully, I wasn’t paying attention and I was staring at the board and zoning out. I think they thought I was paying attention and just didn’t understand it. I liked getting extra help in inclusive classes back then because we got attention and When I didn’t do the gen ed homework, they helped me get a pass on that with the teacher. The adapted SPED homework was easier because it was broken down and I was actually able to complete it at a normal time (mostly for Math). I even got a group of friends I could always be around in the inclusive classes. I think I started kinda noticing I didn’t need as much extra help as they wanted for me there when I finished reading a lower grade level chapter book in 1 night. The group I was with was only able to finish a few chapters. I was so confused on why they couldn’t finish the book. Sometimes i’d finish assignments sooner than they did. Well, everything but Math… I think my issue was unrecognized ADHD and not knowing how to properly navigate school work and time management. I also kinda didn’t know how to behave appropriately in school. I don’t think I fully understood what was expected of me… like once a teacher got mad at me and told me to go outside. I went outside and was confused on what i’m supposed to do… so I kept banging on the door to be ket back in. I later learned by watching someone else that we’re supposed to sit outside on the floor until the teacher comes out and talks to us. I got tested and they got concerned about a few things. How I would kinda get mixed up and match pictures that didn’t match. Example: I matched Traffic light with car, instead of matching Wheel with Car. They really wanted me in special education after that test. My Mother had to fight against it. Secretly I wasn’t crazy about her fighting against it because I liked the extra help and cheats I was getting. In the end I stopped getting extra help and was just in inclusive classes until 7th Grade. In 7th Grade I was in all General Education classes except for Math. This is the age when you start trying to find yourself and be your own person. I wanted to be a good student. I always did my homework and never missed for any of my classes (except maybe for science and less so history). My teachers liked me. Eventually I got burned out by March and started falling behind. I got bummed out about the poor grades I got. As soon as that happened, I started getting calls home from the school psychologist telling me I needed Special Education. I didn’t want to be in special education at that point. My Mother kept fighting against it and they ended up threatening her that they would put me there without her consent. I got student of the month in June… I can’t remember if I genuinely earned that or not. Then in 8th Grade I was in all inclusive classes again except for English. I was bummed out. I was also in extra help sub classes. Like I would be pulled for Extra Help English and Math. I really didn’t care for school anymore and never did my homework. I never participated in class. In some classes I just went with the flow and did exactly what was told. Nobody called home about my grades or about how I am doing in school. I failed Math. Years later when I was 17 and getting a physical exam… my doctor asked if I was in normal classes. I shook my head yes in a retard way. She asked me if I was getting extra help. I shook my head no in a retard way. I did the retard gestures because I felt bad about myself.
same, in 5th grade i had a hard ass time paying attention. drawing for me was like fckin cocaine, it got to the point where i needed an aide to make me pay attention. it got better through the years tho.

I remember when I told a therapist that I have a learning disability and she told me it’s a “learning ability, not disability”sometimes you just have to think another way around for you to not think negative about yourself. And I know it’s hard because others who are very ignorant to not understand that everybody’s different everyone learns differently.
Man I must’ve been dumb asf because I didn’t even realize I was in that class until the next year 😔😂
Lol.
They found his learning style ✨
Yo, a helmet and a seat belt 😂😂😂
I was in Special Ed from K-8th grade. But then in High School, I was put into regular classes, although sometimes I would still have services for Speech but that's it.
You know, y'all brains... 😂😂😂
I laughed as soon as I saw the title! I knew this was good!!
The screams at the end thoooo 🫠😭😭
I loved my classes, this was hilarious, but they still challenged us and my teacher was strict, she made us do the regular homework. 😭😂😂

Nah the howling got it 😂
Bruh that student screaming has killed my throat from laughing too much
They really wanted to put me in there in 5th Grade because to them I never seemed to grasp the material being taught.
Well, everything but Math…
I think my issue was unrecognized ADHD and not knowing how to properly navigate school work and time management.
Bruh in the background yelling killed me
