Hi guys!👋
Do you know I make different things as well ?
Check this video out, I'm so proud of the final result...

This is a USAAF machete, part of the survival gear issued to pilots and air crews. Still have my father’s but nicked at tip of blade in an over- exuberant youth.
👍
I had that exact machete when I was a boy in the early '60's. Damned near chopped my left index finger off with it. Left one hella scar.
It's really good tool, chops things with ease
These were issued to WW2 B-17 pilots and crew. A friend gave me his father's folding machete. It opens with difficulty, but bakelite grips are in good condition. Cleaned it up a bit. Very interesting.
My grandfather has one of these that was brought back from England by my great grandfather (his father). It's in perfect almost unissued condition. Still has the original little thin steel blade guard that was quite often lost by troops. It's still sharp as hell, and I hope to one day inherit that Machete and the M3 Fighting Knife that was issued to my great grandfather.
My great grandfather was in the US Army Air Force [USAAF] aka the Army Air Corps as a welder and was stationed in England during the war. He even brought home a Thompson SMG in his duffle bag after the war ended. It's still in my family somewhere down in Connecticut. I hope to one day have an opportunity to shoot it.
Both awosome stories. Cheers
Great 👍
Nice one... I could do with that thing to lay low my overgrown garden...
Hehe you're right
Our motto, No Grinder No Restoration.
Hmm. Interesting
It’s like the coolest switch blade ever!!
Glad you like it. It's awosome
Great save, super cool.
Thank you !
Interesting remake.
Thanks !
I had no idea these existed. Now I want one.
I have two of them . One still has the blade liner/ protector
👍
Nice one 👍
My dad was in the air force and brought home a machete like yours. I used to love to use it and build camps and make trails...thank you for sharing your project, it brought back wonderful memory's of my Ole dad.
It's and an amazing tool. Since I got it up and running I enjoy using it too.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoy the video. 👍
@@FALCON390Workshop if you ever think about selling it, please keep me in mind.

Nice restoration that still shows its age and long life
Thanks
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up

I subscribed. I like the pauses for showing us things a lot.
Thanks a lot!
Very nicely done.. the blade did need refining though.. I think you should have worked a little more on it and it would have turned out even much more beautiful! But really good work! Keep it up! Much love!
Thanks for feedback
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya 🙏 ❤
Thank you so much👍
That was a liner lock before liner locks were cool. Anybody get a 50 year old song reference?
What is the song please ?
These were issued downed aircrews survival kits. The blade will have had a protector cover as they are damned sharp. I have several of these and one was never issued (scary sharp!). The handle is plastic or a Bakelite material. It's cool to see one being torn down and restored.
Thanks for that info. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Very nice knife
Thanks
Got a similar one. It has a metal cover on the blade, when folded. Mine is in good condition.
Unfortunately this one misses blade cover

Your answer serves as information ... mine also has it, and clarifies on the blade that it is from 1945 ... I thought that this metallic sheath was not original and it was added later ... now I know that it is an original part of the machete ... mine is painted black ... thanks for the. My regards from Buenos Aires
That is a later model manufactured by imperial in Providence that replaced the camillus/case machetes. They are worth about $200-$250 with sheath and sharpening stone. This one isn’t worth quite as much, and came with a detachable steel blade guard when issued.
As always an excellent refurbishment, though I can’t understand why the military would make a foldable machete it’s better that they made it straight.
I think it's to save space in a bag
It works better now
Nice
Thank you
Hello, I congratulate you on your work ... I was interested in seeing you because I have one of those machetes just like that. Many of those machetes came after the war as a military lag, along with jeep willys and cans of fuel ... they were sold to the civil market ... my grandfather bought one of those machetes and it is still in my house. I use it regularly (it is in very good condition) and the truth is an excellent tool ... In my house we nicknamed it the Mc Arthur´s machete (I think it was used by Mc Arthur's troops in the Pacific War) ... Well it is a piece of history that deserves to be preserved. And it will give you many years of service, because it is a very good tool... Now reading the comments, because of the brands that the blade has, the mine it may be british ... it has british brands and here they comment that the british used a similar model... I subscribed to your channel Very good job I send you my regards from Buenos Aires
Thanks for your comment 👍
It's cool..........
But I can't help but think it was a solution looking for a problem.
That folding provides no safety and doesn't seem to make it much more compact for carrying.
Just my opinion, there may be a really good reason why it was created, I just can't think of one.
Mine is missing a blade guard. Yes it is a bit big.
Great restore buddy good finish love restoreingbstuff myself mainly hand tools which I use once brought back to life the old hand tools are still the best . Quilty and how they feel when you use them..
Thanks 👍
this knife is a WW2 English paratroopers machete it was on the harness so if they got hung up in a tree they could cut them self out of it.it also had a cover on the tip of the blade so you did not cut yourself very rare
Thanks for that comment. Appreciate it
Exept from something that I didn't like, like the way you removed the original cheeks (it's painful for me) and the absence of a burnishing, nice job
Thanks
Beautiful and functional restoration
Thank you 👍
This is a folding machete placed under the seats of B52s for pilots to use for survival in case they crashed in a remote area. I have one that is in much better condition. They had a brass guard to protect the edge.
Or could have been on B17s.
Thanks you for watching and info.
Top!
Yes, it's us army air force folding machete from ww2.
Thank you for that info.
It would really be US Army Air Corps, USAF didn't come to being until 1947 after WWII was over.
@@slowpoke613
Yes indeed, the USAF dates from 1947, but here it is the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) which dates from 1941, I understand your doubt you are excused ;-)
Thanks for the info, I got one of these from an antique shop near the Castlearchdale where the Catalina sea planes where based during the war. makes it way more interesting.
Nice job giving new life to a great tool.
Thank you :)
😳 DAMN those are some fast hands, Bruce Lee fast!!😅😂🤣
👍😂
wondering why you didn't drill out the grip rivets instead of ruining vintage grips?
Grips were damage beyond my ideas to restore them. That's all :)
I have one. Mine is in much better shape though. I also have the blade cover. I found it at an antique store / military surplus.
Nice one. I'm jealous
7:00 sounds like u could turn that into a beat
ya
Hehe 👍
I don't understand why you went with the electrolysis, alcohol and WD 40 only to use the angle grinder later.
I don't think it's WRONG to do those things first, but why bother? Yeah, knock the loose debris off with a wash and wire brush, clean it up and THEN do the chemistry project.
i just like to work with clean object.
Decent restoration. That is one interesting blade. It's like a folding bolo knife. I like it but I don't like half of a sharp blade being exposed. Other than that, it great.
These were issued with a steel blade guard, leather sheath, and a sharpening stone. I have an Imperial Machete, which is this one’s replacement. It has a guard built into the knife that also serves as the blade lock when opened. It was also issued with a sheath and sharpening stone.
Thanks
👍
never heard or seen folding machetes besides folding them reduce their integral strength making easily breakable especially when chopping hard woods
This one is solid mate
I think I would have tried to save the handle. I believe it may have been bakelite.
Maybe. It was very damaged. Would be hard to save it.
Ive been watching your videos and what you do is amazing ive liked and subd. Im amazed at how well this came out considering how bad it was to start with
Thanks. Glad you like it.
How did you get your grinder in that vice? Like what vice did you use?
It's a woodwork vise.
Amazing work Done 👍
Thumbs up 👍
👏 👏
Thank you
I think scoutcrafter featured one of these in one of his videos.
I think he said it was a pilots knife and it folded so it could be packed away.
I'm gonna have too watch it. thanks for info :)
Nice video, should wait to reveal the restored version until the end IMO. It kinda spoils it seeing it in the thumbnail.
As you said thumbnail changed. Thanks for that feedback. I appreciate it 👍
@@FALCON390Workshop Np, keep up the good work buddy
Great job, noted that you used the tools that you have with great skill.
Thanks a lot :)
this looks like the sniper's stock mele from tf2
Thanks. That's interesting
Great job. If I'm not mistaken, that is a WWII British Commandos folding machete. When they were dropped onto islands in the South Pacific, it was one of their issued equipment pieces. Compact for practical reasons. By all means, keep it. I have a replica but would rather have one like yours.
Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate when people sharing their knowledge with others.
the first slipjoint liner lock hybrid I've ever seen
all my folding knife's have this kinda lock :-\
this one is special because it is from the 40's
It's very interesting
So. liner locks have been around longer than I thought
Yep 👍
I purchased a brand new identical machete in the early '70s, 25 years after WWII was over. Do you have a reference that this model existed prior to 1945 ?
No, unfortunately not.
4 outof 10
Thanks for feedback
Well my professional opinion you did a great job you kept all the pitting that was on it at first I was kind of skeptical when you remove the original handles but then I loved it when you use the exact same and old material and just basically manufactured a new handle that looks exactly the same and I love the fact that you use the original pin holes you didn't drill any new ones and you made it look 100% original so you did a great job and if I'm correct that the Soviet folding machete
Thanks you for your feedback. I tried to keep everything as it was originally. Wasn't sure if I'm doing the right thing at first, however I'm happy with the final result. Machete looks like new and it works 👍
@@FALCON390Workshop is there anyway I could receive that from you and we can work out a trade or something cuz I collect vintage military knives cuz military runs deep in my family and I know a couple of my relatives would love to see this
Я глаза закрыл когда он лишнее с ручек обрезал😂
Sorry mate 👍
I would have tried to get more pitting out of it, but over all good job.
chuckles barnett that would remove far too much stock
Thanks
👍
в следующей серии мы посмотрим восстановления отвёртки после вандального использования
Would you like to see that ?
The little pins won't let it close and the handle won't cover the whole blade... what's the point?
Thanks for feedback
Thanks for your comment
Looks like a Cattaraugus.
It may be. There is no mark on it
Tenho um desse facão para restauração, neste teu está faltando uma bainha da lâmina que é feita de uma folha de aço, não sei como postar aqui
Cool, good luck with your restoration :)
@@FALCON390Workshop 👍
If he would have done some sort of rust removal first it would've come apart a whole lot easier and maybe he could've saved more original parts..
I get this but some times you need to work with whatever is available in the shop. Going to invest in rust removal soon so stay tuned for more :)
LMAO, what original parts? the degraded plastic handle scales? or the rusty metal pins? because everything is is original, and the pins you have to replace no matter what, its not like these knives are meant to come apart.
seems pretty redundant folding like that, when you fold it and 6" of the blade's still hanging out.. lol.
There is a cover blade missing on mine which would cover the blade completely.
I think it folded like that so it would fit in the seat survival kit of fighters.
That made me sad so I had to stop.
How come ?
FALCON390 Workshop maybe he didn’t like that you broke the original handle.
Next time your working on a knife project and your peening over the pins.... Try striking the ends of the pins on both ends with a pointed center punch first and then peen ends over with a rounded ball peen hammer. The center punch start the spreading of the heads of the pins and make life easier.
Thanks for the tip👍
Why grind the blade and possibly remove the makers name camillus etc and date stamp. Mine is very fine on the blade but reads 1943.
At the time of restoration I didn't know what i work with. There is no trace of maker marks at all, therefore I think that was no name one.
Falta la pieza que cubre el filo
You are right
You in the UK?
yes
Hi bro 👋👋👋 good to see you 🤝🤝🤝 very good restoration machete 👍👍👍
Thank you

Not so much a restoration vid as a reconstruction vid. Still... a lot of work. Wish there could have been more saving the original things to restore it.
No .silly comment.

Why the varnish?
To protect
Would've liked to see you try to get the pitting out of the metal, and attempt to save the original handle. Enjoyed nonetheless.
Thanks for feedback :)
I felt it was an unsympathetic resto
Been better to have wire wooled it with wd40
Зачем сломал оригинальные бакелитовые накладки? Их можно было восстановить.
?
What the point of it point of it being a folding machete if the blade still hangs out and doesn't go straight in?
There is a cover blade missing on mine which would cover the blade completely.
this video........... how to make a 1$ junk machete from a 100$ vintage machete!
hehe that's good one. Thanks for your feedback
Эхх как же херово без токарного станка. Он значительно жизнь облегчает.
I need a lathe indeed
Так и я могу.

I hope this guy wasn't proud of this job. It looks like it was done by someone in middle or high school. If that is the case then it was an okay job. But if this guy was an adult it was a bit sad.
It's not about the age but experience and practice
Restoration. Should have kept the handle. Cool knife tho
yes, keep the brittle old handle scales that would crack and fall apart with the first attempt at using the knife, great idea.
Even though it was damaged ?
Nie ciekawie zrobiłeś z plastikową rączką. Zabytek to i powinieneś zostawić jaka była
It was damaged

Man why not use power saw
what's a power saw?
A saw that use electricity ⚡️ (powered saw)
Hat vor der Restauration besser ausgesehen...
Thank you for your feedback
I just think its funny that people who don't do these restorations always have some criticism....did you not see it before it was restored? Why don't YOU do it the "right" way? Oh because you're just an observer watching someone else do real work. Just stahp know-it-alls.
Thanks for that 👍
AAAHH . COULDNT WATCH ANY FURTHER THIS.YOU JUST DEFILED A HISTORICAL RELIC.Restoration means skillful work with the objective to turn an item into iits originaal form with the original parts wherever just possible ,hence some Restorations take up to a year!!This is a hodge podge which shows the horrible ruining of a quite rare martial relic .If one have the nervs to watch till the end ,the person can learn exactly what NOT!!! to do .Two tumbs down.
Appreciate your feedback
Why folding tho ?
Because it folds :)
Because it was issued to pilots, and had to stow compactly.
@@FALCON390Workshop Astonishing lol
The blade is still crap, work on that pitting.
Even more ?
Could have been a lot better with more effort . But , nice try I suppose .
Thanks. I'm thinking of redoing this project. So stay tune.
