If I'm not mistaken, that is the creator of Jay Leno's "Blastolene Special." He was also on the build team on Monster Garage's Peterbilt Trike episode. Another beautiful creation by a master fabricator.
The Blastolene brothers have made some seriously sick cars for Jay. The first vehicle that comes to mind is the Blastolene Special, and that car is one of the sickest creations that I've ever seen in my life. You have to love their ambition and creativity.
This hot rod never gets old. I would say it is my all time favorite build. That 2 stoke V12 man this thing is a beast. Tho I must say the truck driver in me would want a Eaton 10 speed over the auto. This and Jays tanks car are the best builds Randy has ever done. If you like this check out some of his other builds as well he has a great set of skills and many of his builds starts around a crazy large motor.
That Jimmy, with all of the chrome, would look really good in my XM-811! I have a Cummins 855 now, but that V-12, though smaller, would be quite the eye-catcher.
Detroit made a 16V71. I've only seem one in person and it was the power unit on a drill rig. Polish up one of those and you'd have the baddest Detroit on the block.
@kylehattan Hey thanks! I took this video using my Canon Rebel t1i and it was the first time I used the video feature for this camera. It's amazing how many comments this video gets considering most of our videos are about car detailing. I've met Jay Leno a few times, heck of a nice guy. -Mike Phillips
Until now my favorite custom was a 47 Fiat with a blown BB Chevy I saw at a show in Tampa about 12 years ago. This struck a whole different chord, damn that is wicked.
I debated on commenting on this video, but I wanted to set the record straight and give credit where credit is due. "Piss'd Off Pete" was never owned by Jay. Yes, it was featured on "Jay Leno's Garage," but he never owned it. The "Tank Car" was built and then sold to Jay. It wasn't built for Jay. Randy's "Decoliner" and a "Decoson" was also featured on "Jay Leno's Garage," but he doesn't own either of those. As a matter of fact, the "Decoliner" and the "Decoson" were featured on episodes of Storage Wars. Barry Weiss rode a "Decoson" on one episode and Randy & Barry showed up together on the "Decoliner." Barry doesn't own either one. Randy is an awesome builder and a humble guy. He's a hardworking, insightful and an AWESOME craftsman and builder. My opinion is that Randy doesn't get enough credit for his builds. Then again, he doesn't search for it. In case anyone is wondering, I've known both Jay and Randy for over 10 years. They're both great guys. Ones a builder and the other one is a collector. Oh, and BOTH know their stuff! 😁🇺🇸
It looks WAY better in this video rather than the video on Jay Lenos Garage. The video on Lenos Garage has the truck without the long headers and twin stacks, just straight out the engine through cut off headers. WAY better with the stacks for sure!
That's awesome! That's been my nickname given by friends, I happen to be rather "opinionated" sometimes. But a muscle truck named after me....f'n cool. I gotta find the guy who made this and shake his hand and thank him.
They were also used as generator powerplants too. I saw a bunch in abandoned tower cranes at a shipping yard years ago. Some had dual V12 twin supercharged, twin turbocharged 2 strokes.
To the posters wondering how a Detroit was a 2 stroke, It had ports in the block as well as a head with 4 exhaust valves per cylinder. The blower was not used for boost, rather to blow fresh air through the ports in the cylinders and the exhaust out the valves. All the Electro Motive Division (now Electro Motive Diesel) locomotives currently use the "same" engine, but they are much bigger, like 710 inches per cylinder instead of 71 inches like this engine.
Cummins had a blower on two of their truck engines, the 275 and 300, which were supercharged 220 hp. Some hot rod truckers removed the blower from the 300 and replaced it with a turbo. Due to not having parasitic drag of the blower, the engine produced 335 hp. On a four cycle, the blower does produce boost, on the 2 cycle it just pushes the exhaust out.
@Uunster the reason its a 2 stroke is because it only takes 2 strokes for the whole thing, unlike the typical 4 stroke where it fires once every 2 times up the bore. You're correct in that in order to shut down a diesel you shut the fuel off. I'm happy to answer any other questions you have about diesels also.
I remember back in the mid '90s when the European racing trucks of the day - especially the one driven by Steve Parrish - would put out 1600BHP - and that was from a 12 litre, turbocharged V6!
I think that they're going to have to come up with a better term than bad to the bone to try and describe this Madder and Badder to the Bones MASTERFLEY BUILT BEAUTIFUL HAULER. It's MAD MAXX BEYOND AND ABOVE THE MAXXIMUM.
Just Have to Love the distinct "Ring" of a Detroit Diesel !! Two-Strokes don't waste half there time being a compressor. Getting two 12-71 NA on a 72 footer back online soon can't wait to hear those. Glad I am not footing the 20 GPH (each).
Wonderful craftsmanship

he's such a good car builder always has the best 1 off cars
That thing sounds and looks extremely damn cool which is why the old 2-stroke Detroits are my most favourite type of Diesel engine ever.
this thing is incredible..when the camera came around back and showed that gorgeous rear end and custom tank i was blown away...
Thanks for the eye and ear candy, Randy, that is a fantastic creation, you rock!
Randy Grubb rules!
Blastolene Brothers creation are so cool!
tintin Autibet no they are gay
This is an exquisite piece of engineering, a piece of art.
A MIGHTY fine piece of machine & 🔉sound !
Well 👌done!!! Thanks.
Ohh old mechanical 2 strokes there need to be more of you
Magnacharger07 Dhyr
I like the new pipes way better than the old ones and way more fitting of a semi truck look.
Damn!!! Nice, very original. Seen a lot of rad rods before but I have to say this is the first semi truck rat rod I've ever seen :)
gotta love the 2 stroke Detroits and this one is a 12 cylinder by the looks with two blowers. this peterbuilt is one of a kind. nice truck

the air/fuel mix is perfect! the burn is perfect! no smoke no nothing

Wow! I wish I was a rodder! This has been created with some incredible talent. What a total beast.
That thing is indescribable! Perfect and super badass. You must be proud!
beautiful, pure music keep it up
I saw this truck featured on JayLenosGarage. Awesome!
Ain't nothin finer than the sound of a Detroit!!
They sound like they are about to blow, but they are just getting to work!!
I just got a used silver 8v92 turbo, I want to grab a 12v71 turbo
I don't think there is a more iconic symbol of American freight than a Pete they are badass and beautiful all at the same time.
The guy revving it is Randy Grubb, aka Blastolene, and he built it...
One word "AWESOME"! VERY WELL DONE.
The sound is just addictive.
Until now my favorite custom was a 47 Fiat with a blown BB Chevy I saw at a show in Tampa about 12 years ago. This struck a whole different chord, damn that is wicked.
I like the sound of a two stroke. When I installed an 8V71 in my Silver Eagle I had to fire it up with straight pipes. What sweet music!
gotta love it! a hot rod that attracts people when its not running, and then runs their ass away when you fire it up.

OF COURSE Jay Leno would own something like this..... my god.. he is Awesome!
wow, what a work of art!
Jay Leno has a lot of insane cars.
That's just straight badass. Damn that thing is sweet.
Gotta love Jay Leno hahaha I want to meet him and see the collection someday
God...the twist on that frame...oh the best.
If I ever build one like this gem, I ain't lettin'it go.
Wow what a great looking machine!
When he said 2stoke, my jaw almost fell off :D

love way people walk away thinking its going to blow
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen.
man, i love how tha fuel tank looks like a fith wheel, nice tuch.

That's awesome!
That's been my nickname given by friends, I happen to be rather "opinionated" sometimes.
But a muscle truck named after me....f'n cool.
I gotta find the guy who made this and shake his hand and thank him.
Really nice rod, the exhaust was nicely done ;)
a 2-stroke diesel...such a thing of beauty
That is so freakin badass !! Wow. I gotta get me one.
You can see the whole truck rotating due to the sheer torque
1,000ft-lbs for ya
They were also used as generator powerplants too. I saw a bunch in abandoned tower cranes at a shipping yard years ago. Some had dual V12 twin supercharged, twin turbocharged 2 strokes.
Anyone wanna donate this truck to the I WANT ONE FOUNDATION !!! Sweet ride and quality work!
Some things are so bad that they are good ! I love your car, it is really great !

That looks fun to drive!
That is sick. I drive two swamp buggies with 2 stroke supercharged diesel engines in them at work. They are so mean.
engine looks awesome
I just love how everybody plugs their ears!
Pure chrome symphony!!!Yeaaah!
when I'm reborn . . . I want to be this piece of machinery . . .

I'd love to see Jay show up to Pebble Beach in it.
Dam my grandma has a 1930 Model A Ford sedan and my mom told me to look this up on TH-cam
Gotta love that sound that a Detroit makes!
even without reading the description I can tell that it came from blastolene brothers.. they are the ones that made huge cool toys like this one..
0:29 that guy jumped when he rev'd it lol
something youd see in the new Mad Max
I had the same thought, it just needs to be dirty .
Vin Strigz no it’s not
Oh god no! This is way to nice to be a mad max truck. not enough rust for that

I stand up this morning wondering who stole my car, now I find here in youtube.
Would like to see a video of it making a few passes down the 1/4 mile and driven on the street.
sickest truck I've ever seen
thats some real piece of car
Awesome!!! Very Cool engine!!!
Dude that truck is a beast!!!! I want him to make me one!!!
it has intake ports in the cylinders. it only has exhaust valves on the overhead with the injectors. 12v71n they have a sound all their own
the two guys in the back with their ears plugged crack me up lol
I remember back in the mid '90s when the European racing trucks of the day - especially the one driven by Steve Parrish - would put out 1600BHP - and that was from a 12 litre, turbocharged V6!
That is crazy BAD ASS!
Fuel efficiency defined.
love how the intake is louder than the exhaust , hot sexy truck
I think that they're going to have to come up with a better term than bad to the bone to try and describe this Madder and Badder to the Bones MASTERFLEY BUILT BEAUTIFUL HAULER. It's MAD MAXX BEYOND AND ABOVE THE MAXXIMUM.
V-12 Twin Blowers, not a huge deal! Bad Ass!
Just Have to Love the distinct "Ring" of a Detroit Diesel !!
Two-Strokes don't waste half there time being a compressor.
Getting two 12-71 NA on a 72 footer back online soon can't
