After hearing so many pool trespassing stories it seems like security cameras are a must. I think I'd step it up with a thorny hedge row on the inside of the fence.

I don't have a pool or trampoline but my neighbors love to use my driveway for doing u-turns, I'm not not going to make a big deal out of it but if they damage anything, they get 1 chance to pay for it or I'm going to small claims court for the constant trespassing and damage

When I was a kid, our neighbor had an in-ground pool. She told our mom that we were welcome any time because we were quiet kids that cleaned up after ourselves. We still went and asked permission every time we wanted to swim. She would come out and hang out with us and our mom while we goofed off in the pool.
    Sometimes, I really miss her.
You were an epic-level neighbor, Miss Beth. And your dogs were darlings.

Yes it does. My brother told me a story once about his best friend in the service. An entitled family trespassing to use his pool. So he had enough. He set a beautiful trap, he put blue dye in his pool. He waited for them to trespass. The screaming, the look of pure horrible, that their smurfs look was priceless. What even more funny, they tired to arrest him. Can you imagine what the police said? To end this, the entitled family was made of fun by the whole neighborhood. The teasing lasted for five years, they move out after that. To this day my brother's friend whistle smurfs theme song.

I remember a guy I worked with who told me of a fellow in his university dorm who tried to prank his room-mate by painting himself green all over - with food colouring. The upshot was that there was a green guy walking around campus, going to classes and so on, for a few weeks while he contemplated the difference between paint and dye as his prank slowly faded.

I live in a rural area in Puerto Rico. My family's property is right next to a river, there's a swimming hole in the back area of the property. Before the pandemic, people, mostly friends of my father's, usually came by on the weekends to go swimming, they always asked first. My father has never said no to anyone that took the time to ask. Even strangers. One time this family, in 3 cars and a atv just drove through our property with out even bothering to come to the house. Dad and I told them they had to go, and had 10 minutes to pack up before we called the cops. I remember hearing them cursing at us as they drove away.

@@ranwolf7650 my ex-fiance's father lived next to a big pond here in Connecticut and his house was 10 ft from a really big waterfall. Across the street was a, let's just call it "low income" apartment complex.... The father had lived in that house for decades and had no trespassing signs on the front of the house, facing the apartment complex. One day my ex and I went to his dad's and there was a dozen people from the apartment complex just chilling in his backyard playing in the pond and fishing from their property. They refused to leave, stating that the pond was public property and that they were allowed to be there because they lived across the street. We told them that while the pond itself is public property, the land that you are standing on is private property and does not belong to the apartment complex across the street... We ended up having to call the police to get these people removed because they actually believed that they were entitled to be on someone else's private property because they lived in the apartments across the street on a whole different property.... They never even knocked on the door or asked if they could have access to the pond on the property. My ex's father would have granted them permission to access the pond if they had asked....

Yeah, back in August 2003, I was a conscript in training, standing guard with half of the other specialist and NCO conscripts of my company at the royal palace in Stockholm.
One night, me and the other conscript at the same post called the quick response team on a trio of college age looking people as they were stripping downto take an improvised bath in one of the two hot tub sized fountains on the side of the palace facing the quay and a public main street between the palace and the quay.
By the time these three had their pants and skirts around their ankles, the response team turns up, two 6'5" male conscripts one step behind the 5'8" meat slab of a captain watch officer (who also was the regimental unarmed combat instructor)...
Let's just say that regardless if the people hoping for a swim were university students or tourists, I've never seen any civilian dress back up and gtfo quite that fast before or after XD

A long time ago, my parents had a neighbor that installed an above ground pool. Put up a fence with no trespassing signs. It was instant kids (that he didn’t know) constantly asking if they could swim. He would nicely tell them no. Well they would still occasionally jump the fence and swim anyway when he was at work or sleeping. One night, cops came knocking on the door at about 3 in the morning. The neighbors kid behind him had jumped the fence and almost drowned. The mother was throwing a screaming fit that she wanted him arrested and she was going to sue. Well there is this doctrine called attractive nuisance. He had to go to court. The mom was sitting in a chair with a smug look on her face. What she didn’t know is that he had installed cameras too. They went through the footage and pieced together all the times the mom called him a MF, P or AH because her precious son was hot and deserved to cool off in the pool. Also, he was 7 years old, it was 3 in the morning and a school night. He jumped the fence knowing that him and his mom had been told no on many occasions and he was old enough to know what no meant. Judge ruled in his favor and the mom got in big trouble with her CPS case worker. A couple months later the pool popped because of a stress point in a seam. All the water came downhill to one side of my parents house and flooded the basement (he paid for the damage). Never missed it though. He was glad it was gone.

That is so disgusting. We had a pool and knew someone was swimming in it when we were at work. We used huge heavy blocks to hold down out tarp and the blocks were moved too and was told by one of my husband's former friend that the wind moved it. We put no trespassing on the pool and put up video surveillance and caught my husband's former friends girlfriend slicing the pool with a knife and them peeing in pool. We called the cops and had them arrested and they had to pay to buy a new pool.

Every family I've known with a pool has had this happen tothem at least once. I knew one who had to install a fence with locks and security cams, due to the neighborhood kids constantly breaking in. One kid (a toddler) even almost drowned. It's an infuriating problem for pool owners.

I used to own a property on a beach that was privately owned by me and was just for me but I would allow neighbors access because they allowed us access to theirs as long as it was just the beach and water, I had a pool and hot tub as well as a deck, over time we started noticing trash on the deck and beach and had to clean it up because we were good neighbors and stewards of the land. It got to the point that I installed several state of the art video cameras everywhere and found out who was doing it all, it was this useless family from about 3 blocks away that always wanted to get onto the private areas since most of us allowed others to use but would not let them. I had HD video and audio of their family trespassing and violating laws and turned that over to the police in the area, I never confronted the family because that would have ended in violence and I did not want that. The mother and father were arrested for burglary, the kids went to child custody, and their lives were ruined all because they felt they could use my land and house as their getaway.

Staring down the business end of a 12-gauge changed their minds real quick. They were in such a hurry to leave they didn't even grab any of their stuff, just left it all there. One problem about underground pools is that leaving them empty (no water) can result in problems if there is a high water table in your area. The weight of the water in the pool keeps the whole reinforced concrete mass in the ground. Depending on how the pool was constructed, leaving it empty could result in the pool being forced upwards due to the water table. And even if you intended to re-fill the pool later once the problem trespassers were gone, the alternating cycles of dry/wet for your pool's liner and shell may cause cracking.

As a doordash driver I can confirm this for sure. Whenever I get a shake I put it in its own hot cold bag and often get my tip bumped up because of it. And as long as we're talking less than a 10 minute wait it's easily worth my time. I have only ever been angry with restaurant staff once because they didn't even take the order to the kitchen until I arrived when they knew their kitchen was already backed up 30 minutes. I had driven 20 minutes across town and the river to pick it up and I had to wait over 45 minutes to get the order and then had to drive back across the river and 5 miles out of the city. So an order that should have taken me about an hour if they put it in on time actually took nearly 2 hours. After 30 minutes I told the manager that the orders are supposed to be put in before I get there and they get them before I do so it is unreasonable that I needed to wait that long. He brushed me off and started shouting that I shouldn't tell him how to run his business before he walked to the back. We all have jobs to do and the way I see it I don't care so much about how long they make me wait but the customers certainly do and it was unfair to both of us how the restaurant was handling their part.

My father, who has been dead for about 12 years now, once told me a story that when he was in his early twenties someone kept stealing gas from a vehicle he had at the time. He put a stop to it. He somehow stuck razor blades around his gas cap. Well later that night he heard screaming coming from the yard and ran outside to see someone running across the yard leaving a trail of blood behind them. My father was an honest man, and could not stand a thief. He never had anymore gas come up missing. A lesson to people should be STAY OFF OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY.

Yeah they're fun to listen to but after watching a few baker's dozen of these types of videos from a handful of different channels you see similar and repeating patterns and can clearly tell what is fact or fiction. My childhood bestfriend and her family used to set up a big pool on their terrace/yard every summer. They eventually stopped doing it because the neighborhood kids from the whole street always begged them to play in their pool. This was their pool, so they had every right to turn the kids down, but they kept bugging them and got jealous when my friend had her own friends over to play in the pool. They even had kids just going into their pool without permission. The pool was on the backside of their house but right in front of the backside, so there was no mistaking that they trespassed. It just got too much for them in the end so they haven't set the pool up ever since. I completely understand them, but its sad that they had to stop having the pool. I think my bestfriend really liked the pool, but the other kids were just too much. I don't know if the neighborhood parents bothered my friends family about it, at least I really don't hope so. I do know there was several entitled families in that neighborhood so it wouldn't really surprise me...

Dark fluff I have owned a pool for the past twenty-eight years and let me tell you when I first moved into the new neighborhood every single night I would hear splashing coming from my backyard and at one point I did walk into the backyard with my pistol in my hand turned all the lights on and scared about 15 kids who had figured because the house has been up for sale for a while that that was their personal swimming pool I then installed a much larger fence and even went so far as to install an electric fence around the pool which I would turn on when I was going to be gone on vacations or what not and a bunch of trespassing signs and warning this fence is electrified well needless to say I had one of my neighbors watch my house while I was gone to California for a week and lo and behold somebody couldn't read and they ended up getting a nice good jolt when they attempted to jump over the fence the police were called one kid had to be rushed to the hospital because of the jolt that he had received no charges were brought against me multiple charges of trespassing breaking and entering and vandalism were brought against the people across the street whose child it was who then tried to press charges on me for having an electric fence in my own backyard in closing their suit with no where they were forced to pay damages to my fence and have them fixed and I got a restraining order against them so yes this does happen to people who have pools maybe not to the extreme levels that I had to go to or OP DID but yes this happens and it sucks because if anyone was to drowned while on your property my God it would be your fault which is why rocks and fences are put in if they get hurt while you're not home and they don't have permission it is no longer your fault because they physically had to climb over obstacles to get into your pool but the no trespassing signs are also a must.

I used to work on a farm. There were several ponds on it, and we used to swim in the one. The owner told me at one point in time that the neighbor kept coming over and skinny dipping in the pond.
I don't recall now why I was near the pond. I'm a farm girl at heart and the farm was my favorite place to hang out. I had a dirt bike at that point in time which they let me keep there. But, I found the neighbor in the pond. And yes, she was skinny dipping. She wasn't happy to see me and went to the middle of the pond and started to tread water until I left. I'll admit, I was bad and stood there for a few minutes talking to her. I knew what she was doing and she didn't belong there, so I made her suffer. That's just one story about people using the farm that didn't belong there.

When it comes to owning a pool; yes, having random strangers invite themselves over happens a lot. And it's not just people. We lived well in the woods, but still had a pool. Our neighbor's cows would break through the fence between our land and come try to drink or swim in the pool. There is no way for them to be capable of getting back out without help; so the chance of having a dead cow in our pool was a fear of ours. Old fart refused to do anything about his cows. We eventually moved in order to downsize a little, as our place was getting to the point to where it was too much for us to handle.

When I worked at a gas station that sold beer, I can't tell you how many times when 2am would roll around, and people would race in trying to say we had to sell them beer because they entered the store before 2am. They would argue with us, try to bribe us, etc, even when we told them it would mean our jobs. There was one night I was locking the cooler doors right at 2am, and this guy comes up that's much bigger than me (I'm a short dude at 5'7), and grabs the door handle as I'm locking it and tries to block me. We had this terrifying ridiculous battle of wills for this door, and I saw his big brick of a hand tighten into a fist and he starts to pull back to hit me. I'm scare, I was only 18 years old at the time, thinking I'm about to get clocked by this big guy who clearly was strong enough to lay me out, and I watch the internal struggle play out in his eyes. After what seemed like an eternity he let go of the cooler door handle and stomped out of the store. I don't think I ever saw him again after that (thankfully).
I have other entertaining stories, like the drunk lady that came in at about 4am and started picking empty cans out of the returnables cart, and threw them at the cooler door, one at a time, from about 10 feet away, yelling with each throw "I! WANT! BEER!"... when she ran out of empty cans from the cart, she drunkenly stumbled back out into the night. We had to clean up the mess of course, but it was too funny not to be worth a few minutes of picking up cans (but we did put the cart in the back room in case she came back).

When I was a kid my parents put in the first pool in the neighbourhood. I lost track of the number of times we found other people using it without asking, despite posted signs and repeated complaints. Yes, we were liable if a trespasser drowned, or slipped and hurt their entitled butt. Yes, this seems to happen a lot and the story is completely credible.

The parking story reminded me of this time that I took a bus to my doctor's office. From where the bus stopped in front of a hospital to the doctor's was a 3 block walk. Next to the hospital there used to be a pharmacy. It had changed and was now some offices for the hospital. The valet parking for the hospital used the parking lot of this pharmacy-turned-offices to park their cars. I was walking back from the doctor's to the bus stop, so, I walked through the valet parking lot. The walk back was more uphill, so, being tired, I cut the corner. As I am reaching the opposite side of this lot, a valet guy, who was standing there for some reason(guarding it?), turned and saw me. He immediately began asking me where I had parked. I said I hadn't. He asked me what car I was coming from. I said I wasn't. He was getting miffed. I just kept walking past him and to the bus stop. I guess he figured it out. LOL

Seems like a likely scam. Bust in just at closing, demanding a sandwich, hoping the poor sod behind the counter just wants to get rid of you quickly and won't notice a fake bill. They get an $8 sandwich, plus $42 in change, for a fake $50 bill.

Prosecutors shouldn't have let those trespassers off at the pool, something like a dozen people repeatedly breaking into someone's house and using their property like it's theirs and just give them a slap on the wrist taught them nothing other than they can get away with using people's property whenever they feel like it.

The pool thing.. I used to have a pool in my backyard and this one girl was my friend only because I had a pool. (I mean she had this big trampoline but still) I no longer wanted to be her friend when I realized what a brat she was. One day, we had an argument about something. I can't remember what. I called her a brat (because I remember her being a brat). She shows up the next day at my house in her swim suit like nothing happened. that's when I realized that she's only my friend because of my pool. I kinda wanted to tell her no. I can't play and close the door, but as she was also friends with my two younger siblings, I let her in and told my two siblings she was here. It was like...an every day thing during the summer. My parents finally put a once a week rule in place for friends coming over to swim, which I was happy for.

Both times I worked with them politely to quickly get what I was there for and they left with a last sale, and I left satisfied with what I had received! You always get better service when you are polite and quickly state what you want. Most will happily help you get it done. I've been disappointed when places are not open, but it's never right to take it out on the employees.

Shared 1st story with my hubby and he told me a good one from his construction days. He used to build mid to upper range houses. He told me the story of a couple who bought one of their houses and had a pool put in. This was in the days before fences were required. The property sloped downward at the back. They heard noises outside late one night and went outside. They saw 2 piles of clothes beside the pool. They scared the teens who jumped out of the pool and ran off down the back slope of the property. Sans clothes. They didn't stop to collect them. What makes this hilarious is the back side of the property is totally undeveloped. It had a huge amount of prickly pear cactus. The couple could hear the moans of pain and stayed outside a while to teach them a lesson before going back inside so the kids could sneak back for their clothes. I died laughing when he told me that story.

You should have taken the clothing to the police station and told the cops what happened and said you left a note for the trespassers that they could collect their personal items from the local constabulary. Doubtful they would ever show up to collect their stuff from the police. Some people don't learn. They think it's OK for them to steal/use someone else's property. If that happened to them, you'd never hear the end of their wailing over it.

I dealt with the parking situation daily as a fuel tanker delivering to gas stations. The underground tanks are clearly marked as no parking. Not only do people park there, they will navigate through coned off areas while unloading fuel. I'm amazed at how some people survive.

My dad used to be a maintenance man for apartment complexes and never took us swimming in the community pools at any one of them because he's dealt with some horrors and didn't want us to get sick from whatever was in the pool water.
That didn't stop our mother taking us though because she thought since dad was good at keeping the pools clean, there was no danger. Until people kept letting their kids get away with peeing in the pool. She didn't learn how bad it was until she complained about it after dad got home.
"Those kids keep going in the pool!"
"Wouldn't surprise me if they were made there too."

On a pre-reddit storyboard, one guy talked about how his entire neighborhood wanted to use his pool. He and his wife were retired and did not want the hassle, the liability, or to become free baby-sitters because, of course, some of the parents said it would be a nice gesture for them to watch their kids. They always said no. Upon arriving back from a week-long vacation, they could see movement from part of their backyard visible from the street. They parked a ways before the house, and the guy snuck up and peeked around the house corner, and the entire neighborhood was having a party, using his pool AND grill. He got back to the car and called police and had all the adults arrested (not sure what they could do about the kids/minors). They had to call the police again to talk to all the adults who kept sending their kids to knock on their door to stare at them with puppy-dog eyes, begging them not to go through with the charges.
