Lost Holiday Resort | Severn Beach

- Join us as we take a walk along the site of a forgotten holiday resort. Severn Beach was once a thriving resort popular with residents of the Bristol area. Sporting a boating lake, Lagoon Lido and all the rides you would associate with a resort. All at the mouth of the River Severn. Now long forgotten, Severn Beach is popular with walkers of the Severn Way, people taking a stroll with their dogs, and indeed anglers.
We take a look at the site of the New Passage, which is where the ferry used to leave from, to get across the estuary to Wales.
And marvel at the construction of the Bridges that span this very dangerous tidal area.

A nice place for a morning walk along the beach , that bridge is very long 😳 Those beaches in the 50’s and 60’s were very popular at the time …I remember my parents used to bring me in the early 60’s at some beaches here around Montréal that are now closed .

That was a nice blustery walk along the shore. That bridge was neat to see. It was really long and out of sight on the horizon. Awesome rainbow over the river. That was cool to see where the ferry used to cross. Don't let your ears blow off! LOL. Have a great day.

Loved going for a walk with you Watto and Kim. But the weather leaves a little to be desired. Beautiful river area, we would enjoy seeing it at high tide. We could make out the rainbow, Watto. Looks like by the historical marker were some gravestones of landowners who didn't live up to their end of maintaining the sea wall! Loved it, Watto and Kim!

Hi Watto and Kim. This was a lovely tour of Severn Beach. I can just imagine the ferry docking there and a boat load of people coming and going. How things change. We use to have a popular place here in Canada called Crystal Beach. Similar story…now it’s only the beach that’s still popular. I really enjoyed your walk and talk about this beautiful place. That's a long bridge! Low tide at the time, it looks windy and cold! But still nice to wander about! I could see the rainbow and loved the historic pictures at the end, great job friends!

Hi Watto & Kim! Looked a nice bracing wander👍 Interesting to see the bridge construction up close, and the contrast with the old bridge. Never knew about the train and ferry crossings (presumably from before both bridges). Good stuff!👍👍
Thanks Des. Yes the old passage is in accessible at the moment and was the site of the first ferry and the new passage built after that. Also the Severn tunnel portal is at Severn. bridge where the railway runs under the river. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care. 👍🏻🚶🏻♂️🚶♀️.

Great video Watto and Kim! Loved it. I was down there with my drone in September taking shots of the bridge. That's when I found out about the long gone seaside resort. Amazing bit of history. The Severn Beach Hotel was the last to go in 2002. Quite sad really. Apparently, the Welsh used to come across on the weekend by the bus load to visit the resort too. The mix of video and photography works very well 🤩P.S. I am 10 stone too 😂 Take care and all the best 👍

Loved your walk along the estuary. Anything for the right sho. Kim didn’t care that the pipe was wet and cold as long as she got her shot. 😂😂. The bridge was cool underneath. Love that huge driftwood. Yes, it was a great view.

What a beautiful area I enjoyed the bridge and the view from underneath it seeing the construction. Those views over the water were awesome. Great that they have a plaque up for information. Yes that an awesome view to wake up to. Interesting to see what it looked like back then

Good day Watto and Kim. Times have changes since Severn beach was a thriving beach resort and I think this tells a lot about how society has changed in the last 100 years. I do not think teenagers today would feel the least happy about going to Severn beach; but at one time it was the Ibiza of the day:) Shame that the wind was too strong for the drone - I think the pictures of the bridges and beaches would have been interesting. Especially with the landscape lit up in the distance! Take care and have nice walks this week!

A nice walk, and, of course, Kim always has the good ideas, right? It was a bit windy, but that is a BIG river, and they usually are windy places (in my experience). Well, we northerners are starting to celebrate the return of light (and warmth, eventually). I am sure that you are starting to feel it too!
