Fabulous advice of clear but single, colour for each outfit for summer. Makes so much sense. Uncluttered and crisp makes it look so much cooler. Thank you for sharing this with us. All the pretty things!
It’s wonderful how thoughtful they were about the fashions isn’t it?! Somehow the descriptions bring the illustrations to life and you know the effect you want to create. Thank you very much for watching! 💗💐
Oh Lizzie, you don’t have to worry about being a few days behind with me! My last few days have been so hectic. Driving home tomorrow. London is in the grip of a heatwave and baking. Now I see the point of all that advice about looking cool and fresh! ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰
@@Samanthalovestosew I'm craving time by the water. Toronto had a few days break from the heat, but we're right back to it again. It's consistently hot and it does not make me happy! I'm glad you're escaping the heat wave of London! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much Lenore 🌸 I remember you telling me about your mum’s dresses. I have a couple of my mother’s (not as many as I’d like) and the waists are tiny! Xx💗💐
The clothes were so pretty and feminine!! Things matched or coordinated so well. Thank you for sharing these inspirational designs. I live in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and am working on a traditional ribbon skirt. It’s just a basic skirt with elastic waistband but it’s fun getting creative sewing on ribbons .
I just looked up the traditional ribbon skirt. I absolutely love it! You’ve set me off on looking at all the different ones and wanting to make one myself! Such a fun and pretty idea. I might want to do a video if you don’t mind? I’ve so many ribbons in my stash (it won’t surprise you to hear!) And, yes, 50s Vogue - the designs were so elegant and the text makes me smile too. They were rather strict with their rules on how women should dress. They had standards!! ❤️
@@Samanthalovestosew Feel free!! I like how the skirt can be very quick and basic or can be quite intricate with appliqué, embroidery etc… added. It’s a great way to use leftover materials and let the imagination and creativity flow. Have fun ❤️
The clothes are all so beautiful and elegant and I love that they're categorized in colours and there's so much inspiration here! But your commentary is hilarious "I love it, but it doesn't love me back", "we all go to so many cocktail parties" hahaha! 😂❤❤
Thank you very much for appreciating my humour Arietta! As you know, when you’re in a solitary bubble filming and editing, you’re never absolutely sure if humour is translating well! I could visualise all these dresses but the one I want most is the one I can least see myself having occasion to wear … a translucent redingote! (Of course I had to change the captions from redding goat all the way through 🙄) ❤️😘
Believe it or not Samantha I did watch from start to finish. I knew what I was going to write within the first 10 minutes. It must have been a wonderful time for fashion. As you mentioned it was post austerity brought about by World War 2, less about practicalities more about glamour? Even the music industry went wild with the onset of rock 'n' roll. Films started to be made in 'glorious tevhnicolour' and it was glorious. I know you are in your element talking about such fashion, you have fashion passion and it comes across in your commentary. Hope you have a nice Sunday.
Thank you very much Ian! What stamina for all those fashion illustrations you showed in watching my video from start to finish! I’m very grateful and wondering if I would manage the equivalent - say half an hour of football - and I’m not totally certain I would 😆 Of course you’re right about the music and the technicolour. On the Vintage Tribute channel there’s a fantastic tribute to the 50s that I’ve watched several times over as it always lifts my spirits (all those wonderful sci fi films too!) Have a good Sunday too. I’m sitting in the train with my father on the way to Glyndebourne. ps ‘fashion passion’, what a great phrase!
Hi Samantha! I love these different color themes! 😍. I'm always a big fan of bright beautiful colors. I am such a huge fan of orange and lime green. 🧡💚 My sweet pups won't wear bows, but they do wear little neckerchiefs, and I always make matching neckerchiefs for them with my fabric scraps. 😁 Such gorgeous, feminine designs... 😍. I want one of each. 😊 Of course, I have no where to go to wear them though... 😖 I dream of a beautiful wardrobe, but always end up dressing so sensibly. ☹️ Oh my goodness I love your little quips and side comments. I keep finding myself quite literally laughing out loud 🤣 🤣 🤣 Thank you so much for sharing! 🩷
Hi Laura! Now I have a vision of you in orange or lime green dresses with your pups in matching neckerchiefs 😃 Where to wear all the creations is always the tricky thing. I’m actually out and about for my birthday weekend and it was a dilemma choosing one dress from all the options (because who knows when I’ll be going out again 😆) I’m very pleased to find someone sharing my humour. You never know when it’s just you pressing upload if anyone else thinks the same things are funny! 😂💝
I didn't catch your première from the beginning, but I'm going to watch the whole video and come back to comment. I already feel that I will want to make every garment though... ☺️😘😘
You would look wonderful in every garment! 😃 Thank you very much for watching and I shall looking forward to seeing more of your glorious 50s creations 💝💐
That part about pink made me sing: Think pink, think pink when you shop for summer clothes Think pink, think pink if you want that quelque-chose Red is dead, blue is through, green's obscene, brown's taboo And there is not the slightest excuse for plum or puce Or chartreuse! LOL Some wonderful designs, I wouldn't mind having some in any of those colours. :) Thanks for showing this. :)
That song is so funny! I don’t think I heard it before but now I want to memorise it. These fashions of the early 50s are so fresh and pretty aren’t they?! When I recorded the video the UK was still damp and cold, but now I’m in London and it’s in the grip of a heatwave, baking and busy. So suddenly I see the point of the advice for achieving those cool looks! Thank you very much for watching :)💐
@@Samanthalovestosew So it means you haven't seen "Funny Face" with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire???? You need to watch it ASAP, it's very fashion-centric musical, so much gorgeous 50s clothes, both high fashion and more everyday. Worth watching just for that.
@@missterryvintage oh I have seen it but not for years and years. I’m going to watch it this week. I really need to rediscover all those old movies that led to my love of vintage fashion. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
Loved this SO much! Lovely lovely images, I adore these styles 💝 The descriptions tho! They conjure up pure magic 🪄 I'd feel like cinderella every time I stepped out ✨️🎀✨️ Absolutely yes! for matching doggie bows 😂 What a picture you'd all make! Beware tho, Pixie and Raisin say their favourite colour is LILAC please! 💜💜💜
They’re not just dresses are they? They’re a lifestyle of summer cocktail parties and waltzing in the kind of restaurants that have a piano player! I know this is your favourite style and hope one day to see you sporting it in Porlock to the astonishment of the inhabitants. Ah, I see the danger re the doggy bows. Being black and white the dogs would rightly think that cool shades such as lilac suit them best, whereas their owner needs warm shades. Hmmmm🤔 … Glad you enjoyed the episode!! 😃💝💐
@@Samanthalovestosew Oh indeed, swanning about in Somerset like a proper laydee! (Ps. Move delayed til 2026 🙄 ) with my dog in a matching jaunty bandana about her neck! 🤣 Oh and lilac is for me, having the silver grey Barnet 🤭 You can sport pink then, we'd look like two iced gems!
@@rowanhughes8682Iced gems!! I hadn’t thought about those for years and now I’ve come over all nostalgic! Sorry your move is delayed, I’m looking forward to our wool shopping expeditions 😃💝
Not the lampshade comment, HAHA. Tried on a vintage inspired halter neck dress with fringe months ago and my excitement quickly left my body when I saw the lampshade looking back at me in the mirror 😂😂 can’t wear purple or strappy dresses xx😔
Ah fringing around the hem of a dress that perhaps flared out a little at the hemline, the vision of a lampshade rose before me! Thank you for making me laugh (and also reassuring that it’s not just me who has these thoughts 😂) Thank you for watching xx💝
