  • The Yamaha TZR250 is a legendary motorcycle and one of the rarest and best models was the reverse cylinder 3MA model.
In this video, we take you through a full strip down and restoration of a 3MA that was purchased as a blown up import. The full step by step restoration can be found over ten issues of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics.
The 3MA was first released in 1989 and this is that rare model. In 1990 it got upside-down forks and different pipes, with the V-twin 3XV arriving in 1991 and being produced through t 1996.
The 3MA and 3XV were only sold in the Japanese market. Here in Australia and throughout Europe, only the parallel twin 2MA version was sold, which was a much more basic bike with a single disc front, conventional forks and more road going styling. It was sold from 1986 until 1988 and 1989 in some countries.

I had an aprilia RS125 Extrema and than an aprilia RS250 - absolutly loved them. Three days ago I bought an 21 year old aprilia RSV mille. Can't wait to get it back on the road...
    All the best from Germany

Great vid & fantastic restoration. Back in the day I had a TZR125 & then an RGV250 & remember loads of the reverse cylinders about at the time too. My best mate used to have the TZR250R V-twin which was an amazingly good bike. Those were the days.

Are parts very hard to come by. I know when I owned one I found it almost impossible to find bits and pieces. Loved that bike. The exhaust was the reason I purchased mine back in the day. Smashing machine well done.

My god that looks nice 👌. I have a black one, see my videos, im waiting on registration coming through and will be taking it out for a spin. Wasn't that bad when I got it imported. I have tidied it up for now. Will give it a full make over at some point.

I had a RD250D back in the day. Only thing about this review, I get all the who built this and that stuff but I would have liked to know a bit more about how it handled, brakes and keeping up with modern 250s etc

      What "modern (four-stroke) 250s" would a 3MA have a problem to keep-up with?

My first bike was a 1987 TZR 250 2MA, I loved it until the RGV 250K came out, and I bought it :-0
