UPDATE: Norfolk Southern has been fined $10,000 by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division following this derailment. According to the EPD, the railroad company "violated Act and Rules as a result of a railcar derailment allowing soybeans to be deposited into waters of the state."
Gainesville has been part of my railfanning journey since the beginning. I've seen trains there since 2016, but I started really railfanning in early 2017. I've seen my first heritage unit there which was ns 1070, my first amtrak, my first foreign power, my first Canadian national, and tons more. Seen several heritage units as well as ns units now off the roster. I even rode my first Amtrak from there! I practically know the place by heart.
UPDATE: This is how the railroad reported this accident to the Federal Railroad Administration - NS TRAIN 54RP423 DERAILED 4 CARS DUE TO REVERSE MOVE THROUGH PREVIOUSLY RUN THROUGH SWITCH AND SPILLED APPROXIMATELY 16000 LBS OF GRAIN.
No injuries. Conductor didn't line both ends of the crossover. They shoved up into Cargill spotted a track then pulled ahead. They put six or so cars on the ground.
the old Gainesville Midland Depot and offices still exist and we're actually across the street from where Gainesville Midland 209 was originally displayed.
Give me a shovel and a couple of gunny sacks and I'll keep my chickens happy over the winter. I'd appreciate date more videos like this so I can salvage to help me out!
Great video. I got that same NS 212, the first train of the video. I rode by Gainesvile on Friday (going to Atlanta) and Sunday (heading back to Greenville, SC). Cargill has a cool paint scheme. I've passed these engines on Amtrak a couple of times. I'll be looking to see if they have made any progress on this derailment next time I ride Amtrak.
Again apparently there has been multiple wrecks on that spur. last time I was there it looked like they had a wreck before and they had crudely replaced the track. Not Surprise that something derailed over there
Major mouse buffet. If they don't pick that soy up there will be a horrendous stench in that area for about a year and it will smell very close to a decomposing carcass.
Ohhs-nooos! Those poor soybeans. How will my: processed cheese product, loaves of bread, canned chili, pasta sauce, ketchup, breakfast cereal, sausages, non-dairy powdered creamer, liquid non-dairy creamer, frozen pizzas, frozen dinners, and--and--canned soups be made now! Gawd, now everythings gonna double in price--again!
I don't know all the details, but a local split a switch while servicing cargill, then tried to run through the same switch going the other direction, which you, um, shouldn't do.
I see they've wasted no time tearing those engines up. Most of these mills have no clue how to perform basic operations. They don't train anyone of the basics of brakes etc.
Hey there, I'm a reporter with FOX 5, we're working on a follow up story about this. Wanted to see if FOX 5 and other Fox-affiliated entities would be able to use your video on our platforms forever with credit. Is that OK?
Kinda funny because around 09 2010 when I applied for a conductors job for NS they bragged alot on the Harriman safety award they had got for so many years at the information session.

This isn't a accident this is just NS every day usual
it is
It will not effect profits, too much, "thats chicken feed".
Those are cargill trains not NS and it’s not chicken feed
@@ThatA-LineRailfanProductions Hi Angel
It wasn’t NS it was Cargill.

Thank you for video, Love to all
Love those Cargill locomotives, they look amazing in lime & white!
Hello Charlie. Thanks for the info in this video. RJ Corman and Hulcher didn’t get a Huge by themselves. Lots of Derailments occur Weekly.

Gainesville is my home town. Didn’t know this. I need to go load up for my deer!!
Love these videos! And love the horn on the last train
Lots of grain trains been derailing lately.
Great Video and Look how they Bounce over the Switch at 4:43. #dash9neverdie

Over forty years ago, I climbed hopper cars around Gainesville and Flowery Branch sampling soybean meal, cottonseed meal, corn gluten meal, etc.
how did they taste?
@@rvnmedic1968 What had been left out in the elements had already rotted.
It’s not a derailment it’s a small inconvenience~Norfolk southern
Great coverage.
I seen that first train in Alto
We call those " no lip grainers "
Lumpy Track!🤠 All these Gevo’s need KYB Shocks!
Kind of like what happened in Pocatello
Do you know any spots in Savannah Georgia for trains.
I have never done any railfanning down there, but would like to.
@@v12productions I was there I found a good spot it is the Amtrak station it's csx and maybe NS.
Amtrak also have those
There’s bin a lot of derailments lately
Almost an overload for the system. As the train curved to the right a pigeon decided to claim pecking rights
Interesting video!

Trains rock!
Agreed my friend
Hello sir, what is the drone you use?
I recently switched from using the DJI Phantom 4 to the DJI Air 2S.
@@v12productions Great, I was going to get the Air 2S soon!
Arkansas, mainly northwest AR, is the poultry capital of the world. ;)
Actually Iowa is...has more chickens than Georgia and Arkansas combined...
@James SS The plant in Camilla is no longer Equity. It now belongs to Tyson Foods.
RIP derailed grain cars

Business as usual out on the mainline.

I can’t believe that we are calling GE-9’s old. I still remember their unveiling. I’m not old! I’m just living in the future.
I guess they're now since the first one was produced in the mid 90s. NS is rebuilding alot of their Dash9's and converting them to AC
@@freedomfan4272 I still remember UP and SP’s first Dash 9’s coming out and seeing them in California.
hell ya nice job
nice video
Well that doesn’t help food prices

With all those soybeans I could feed my deer for years.
With every derailment, the class 1 railroads prove how safety isn't even part of their considerations.
Kinda funny because around 09 2010 when I applied for a conductors job for NS they bragged alot on the Harriman safety award they had got for so many years at the information session.
those are soybeans, not ground up soybeans.
Get a radio scanner so I can hear how dumb I sound on the radio.
this is the bad news
Oof
