- Remnants of Debby brought localized flooding Canisteo, N.Y., and other towns in the Southern Tier August 9, 2024, where residents captured roaring creeks and waterways sweeping away anything in the path. Steuben County was ground zero for rainfall and flooding. The top seven rainiest spots reported to the National Weather Service were in Steuben County, where a state of emergency was declared. This is the town area, we live an hour and a half ahead in upstate NY and we had it all the way down here but not as bad, our basement was flooded and there were leaks in our roof but we got em fixed and cleared out the basement. This will be one to remember as we don't usually get floods near here, maybe a couple tornadoes but no floods. Very wild ride the past Two days.

I live not to far from them in a bigger city in NY but I've been down there a couple of times and it isn't really all that bad, I kind of enjoyed not hearing construction everywhere I go for once, I will go back soon.
I live in Chambersburg PA and a hurricane got so out of control that a roof of a barn fell off and a bunch of animals die😭😭😭

Reminds me of Johnstown, PA. when it flooded back in 1977, 1936 and 1889. Prayers for everyone.

Same for the town of corning back in the 1970s my grandma lived there And she told me stories about it that it was the worst thing they've ever been through and it destroyed they're whole home and that they had to rebuild it, She still lives in that Same house today And recently turned 86 years old.
@JesaquariousDemarcoJamesIII Good for your Grandmother. I was not alive in either 1889 or 1936. But 1977 was enough experience to imagine what it was like for the other two. Poor Johnstown....but it came back each time, but I am in Pittsburgh now because of 1977.
When you started crossing back across the road after the pine tree went down on the other side, it looked like the road was cracking down the middle of the lane. Please be careful! Thanks for sharing what you saw though. -from Florida

Road was built after houses were built, I'm sure. So sad.
Road probably built much later . When those homes were built, it was prime location, near a small stream and in a fertile valley. Upstate NY and PA never had to worry about tornados and hurricanes before.
So please let's not judge previous generations for today's changing weather

Weather modification. I noticed for the first time in 2022 when Hurricane Ian hit Florida that we had very unusual flooding that we never got with other hurricanes. They have ways of causing much more precipitation to occur than usual to cause these floods.

I notice the road is pretty dry, and the houses are pretty moist. Maybe next time build the houses at a higher elevation then the road, and they will also stay dry. I'm not a rocket scientist, but that is my two cents.

This looks very similar to the flooding that hurricane Diane caused to the northeast back in 1955.
The flooding almost became a whirlpool effect.

Be careful taking video the ground you are walking could give way under you feet in seconds. The ground Has been saturated on both sides of that road. Could easily drop.
