That moment where he takes a breath after the haunting scream still sends shivers down my spine 28 years later. MTV unplugged captured some amazing performances during that era.
Absolutely. I can't watch this video without feeling a deep sadness. I have the DVD of the show and will only watch it alone, volume high and at times shed a tear for the heartache was obviously experiencing at the time
I always like the fact that Kurt is talking about buying that guitar at the beginning for $500,000 like it’s crazy, then the guitar he is playing in this video recently sold for $6,000,000..:)
My funny Nirvana story: I grew up in Cannon Falls, Minnesota...home of Pachyderm Studios, where Nirvana recorded their 'In Utero' album. I was in high school, and worked at the local pizza shop. We got an order to be delivered to Pachyderm, and when I got to the studio, all the guys stopped recording and came over. They seemed kind of surprised that I didn't know who they were (they introduced themselves, and their band name). I was into rap and hip-hop. When I got back to the pizza shop, everyone asked me who was out at the studio...I said "I don't know...some band called Nirvana or something".... everyone freaked out, and went on about how unfair it was that the only guy who didn't know them was the one who got to take the delivery...😂
Dude my buddies' band I worked for recorded at Pachyderm in 2007. It was super cool....all the gold and platinum records on the walls. The big room in the house was where Kurt slept. The engineer we worked with was the guy that picked them up at the airport when they got to Minnesota and it was the first album he worked on. So many stories....spent four days of my life in Cannon Falls and they were unforgettable.
@@michaelgroetken7479 that is awesome! Very nice little town...and only about a half-hour from the Twin Cities. I loved growing up in Cannon...would like to move back some day.
I understand you listened to hip hop, but Nirvana was the biggest band on the planet at the time, how the hell did you not hear about them? I grew up listening to punk and similar genres, but I knew who Tribe Called Quest were for example, shit I knew most 90s hip hop groups even tho I wasn't in the hip hop scene, every radio station, MTV, every magazine all spoke about Nirvana. Like, how the hell did you avoid hearing about the biggest artist of the time? that makes no sense to me.
Nirvana was a Grunge band. It's somewhere between punk, rock and blues. Kurt's vocals and use of his voice to complete complex melodies is pretty iconic. This song still gives me chills every single time I hear it
Me too! God i miss grunge. Another underrated grungy band from the 90s is the gits, cus Mia zapata died before they got a real chance at getting their music out there. Rip Mia. 🙏
The genre of grunge will never have another. When Kurt took his life, music changed to never be the same again. Thank you for this one. One of my favorites. Stay safe and stay awesome.
I would go back and forth between some of their classic tunes like Smell’s Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, Rape Me, and more songs from this MTV Unplugged performance like The Man Who Sold the World, and All Apologies. Really encapsulates Kurt’s versatility and talent.

Nirvana was my fav band growing up but today's youth, and singing talent, is not going to find better vocals than this. It is the best performance he ever did. Rape me? You kidding? They'd be shut down in a minute lol.
I second this. With this one as your starter, I'd suggest moving onto Heart Shaped Box before you stage dive into the more punk grunge sound they have.
I like all of them songs too. But I lean more towards songs from "In Utero". Much darker and more unique sounding than most of the "Nevermind" songs. From "In Utero" I would suggest "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter", "Serve the Servants" and "Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle"
i was in 7th grade when Kurt Cobain died. I remember coming home from school and Kurt Loder was on MTV saying he'd died and they played Nirvana videos all night.
I was in 8th or 9th grade, I remember sitting in chemistry class when I learned about Kurt's death. I wasn't even a big fan at the time, but still, it made a big impact.
8th grade, Saw the report before my buddys mom dropped him off at my place so we could go skate the elementary school up the road. When he got there he had no idea, and I told him. We sat on our boards on the curb in front of my grammas house and didnt talk for like an hour. Then we went and skated. Ill never forget that.
I was working at an electronic component distributor in Houston. I remember Kurt had recently gotten out of a hospital in London (I think. Or was it Italy). He had come close to dying then. I had a little radio on my desk and the bulletin came over the radio station that he’d taken a shotgun and ended it all back in Seattle. I told a girl who worked a few desks up from mine about what had just happened. Since we had both talked about him recently, she thought I was kidding. I wish I had been.
That moment where Kurt opens his eyes briefly at the end.... still hits the feels every single time!! Such a talented and solid musician/song writer lost too soon! :(
One of if not my favorite song. Really interesting history. As he says this is a cover of a Lead Belly song, originally called Black Girl, which Lead Belly changed to "My Girl" when he was asked to perform it in front of white audiences. Lead Belly's version of the song is one of many as this song goes back to about the 1800's and is a popular Appalachian Murder Ballad. A "murder ballad" comes from letters that people would write when there was a horrific crime committed (not always murder) and spread them around to either warn people or to tell the story of the victim as they were not reported. At the time they were often written about black people trying to escape slavery and being caught and lynched in Appalachia. "Polly" is also like an original Nirvana murder ballad, it's about the kidnapping and torture of a teenage girl near where he lived. This particular murder ballad is about a woman on the run, her husband is decapitated by a train (driving wheel is a train engine), believed to be tied down based on other versions. She has run in to the woods; In East Appalachia there are pine forests with so many tall narrow timbers that the ground around them is always cold as the sun never touches it due to the shade. She is describing hiding from the people who killed her husband in the woods where the sun never shines.
This video is from their legendary "Unplugged In New York" session, where half the setlist is covers of other songs. If you want to go down the Nirvana rabbit hole, start with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and then use Wikipedia to track the singles by release date; that way you experience them as we did. Now the albums are great overall ( _Bleach_ tends to have love/hate relationship with the fans) but use the single list as your base guide and then pick and choose as you will. I'll throw my personal recommendation for "tourette's" because most people skip over that one because it's kind of a nonsense song but...it fucking slaps (as the kids say these days). I will say this though: "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is probably the best song to end your Nirvana tour because...well, Jesus, listen to it. Kurt himself said he couldn't do an encore because he couldn't top that song.
He’s his own category. His voice is like if sweet, kindness, sadness, pain, and heartbreak had a baby with aggression. Sadly it always seems true, but the brightest flames burn quickest.
Well, he and Nirvana is the defining act which was Grunge music so in a way every band who fell into the grunge category was in fact mimicking Kurt's style. But he himself got loads of inspiration from people like Bowie and The Pixies. I'm very thankful for The PIxies for that reason, they're a totally underrated band way ahead of their time back in the eighties and many people have no idea how important they were to Nirvana's sound. You possibly (probably?) already know them and this song, but if not give this Pixies track from 1988 a try, if you haven't heard of them I guarantee you won't regret it and to be honest, you'll probably recognise the song even if you haven't heard of them th-cam.com/video/49FB9hhoO6c/w-d-xo.html
This song the actual origins are unknown, Lead Belly was one of the first to record it, the genre is actually called murder folk music (Stagger Lee) another example. You can fact check me on that, it's actually 2 songs that over years became one. With many variations along the way, in 1964 The four pennies had some success with this song under the title "Black Girl", which was one title Lead Belly sang the song under as well.🚀🌌 check out Alice in Chains "Nutshell" MTV Unplugged version
Nirvana was the quintessential band of the 90’s grunge scene. This was my era of music and still love it. There’s hundreds of songs and dozens of bands I could recommend, but one you might find interesting and different is Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden. Give it a listen.
Yeah, I loved that song with Bowie's mysterious lyrics and Cobain's haunting delivery. I still think "Where did you sleep last night" is the best song off the album, but I can totally understand why many others would think "The man who sold the world" is the best. Truth is I think all the songs off the unplugged album are great.
That reaction was exactly what I hoped for. This is one of the greatest live performances ever. It never fails, when his vocals kick in on the last chorus, it's just amazing.
Which is partly why I like this so much. Not that I don't like Nirvana's usual material, I do, but boy, they really knock this one out of the park. So haunting.
I wouldn't say it isn't representative of Nirvana's music. What about 'something in the way' as a melancholy track? Would you say that wasn't representative of Nirvana? Every one of nirvana's songs are melancholy in some way, but a lot are about breaking free from sadness. Or running from sadness in Kurt's case. You can still hear the sadness though in all of them. Ironically their most popular track, 'smells like teen spirit', was the track that seemed a bit different on Nevermind
The whole "in utero" album is amazing. So is "nevermind". Bleach is incredible too. Cant go wrong really. lol I've loved Kurt's voice from the first time I heard it. Some of my favs are you know your right, rape me, heart shaped box, lithium, in bloom. Try those. Watch the whole unplugged show & the live & loud show are incredible as well.
“SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT”!!!! The song that launched Nirvana!!!.....and his voice is “Grunge Rock” Cmon guys let’s help this girl out with the correct Nirvana songs to start with!!!
@@south6bt ....but that song was originally a song by “Leadbelly”.....back in 1944. Still was a great cover but not a Nirvana song....so it was not the right entry video to watch......but still a nice video to react to.
No Teen Spirit is a bad choice. It's their most commercial. That should wait until like the 20th video. Review his "before famous" songs. The Bleach album. School, Love Buzz, About a girl, Negative creep. If she really wants to go past normal... do those videos and add live. Doesn't matter the venue. Any one would be an experience.
What is so weird is I know exactly where I was when I first heard" Smells Like Teen Spirit". Literally there are NO other bands where I remember where I first heard them.
Same. Went to school the next day and told a buddy. We both basically discovered them on the same night. We kept talking about the guy in the striped shirt
I know exactly what you’re talking about. First time I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit is something I remember pretty well. The next day, I searched a few Nirvana songs, and became a fan
I love this song it really showed Kurt Corban's Vocal Range. I first heard their version of this song my first year in the Marines and I was just amazed. Partly because it was Nirvana singing a old Blues song and Secondly because this is the very song my mom and Uncle would sing together with a friend playing the guitar whenever all three of them got together and got drunk lol. Over the years I have grown to appreciate it even more for both reasons. It brings back many found memories and the song is so very powerfully done. I enjoyed your reaction hun
I think that was a perfect place to start wi Nirvana. I oddly well up w tears at his final screeching verse. It’s so emotionally raw and overwhelming. I love great live performances most. This one is stellar.
Pixies often sighted as their inspiration to their sound, the quiet, quiet, loud. That in a nutshell is nirvana, they go from barely an audible whisper to all out sonic assault and back again and never break stride. The ferocity of the percussion, driving bass lines, crushing guitar and a singer with a voice so fragile it was always at breaking point, these might not come across in this song, but the are there, the foundations of the genre, the genre they created not by design, but by how they existed. It still breaks my heart that he wanted so much to be a pop star and when became it, it was all too much. Nirvana was the band that had a&r people scuttling all over the Pacific north west looking for more of the same, what they didn’t know was the fact it became an out of control freight train smashing through walls and social statuses, everybody trying to hitch their wagon to it without realising no one was at the controls and it was heading for a horrific stop. The bands from the grunge era continue to this day, but nirvana remain the benchmark, that in 3 studio albums they are still one to be measured by. I’m was born the same year as Kurt, it still pains me to think of him gone, but what a difference his short on the earth made. 3 decades later watching the delight in the eyes of youth of today as they discover what is now music of a bygone era 😢
As someone who lived and loved them in the early 90's I'll tell you why none of the "unplugged" songs are good choices for first reactions (the unplugged is legendary and they have very, very good versions of their songs and awesome covers like this one or "the man who sold the world") but they are nowhere near the identity of Nirvana. To me, heart shape box and In bloom are the best way to experience Nirvana as they wanted to express themselves. David Grohl said in interviews that In Bloom is Kurt's favorite song and In bloom is a mockery song toward their new "fans" who only wear their t-shirts and listen to their songs because they we're popular but never tried to understand what they really want to express with their music. Smells like teen spirit is their biggest song but it's one that Kurt hated himself and Chris Novoselic wasn't very fond of either. The song name has an interesting story, Kurt was dating a girl at the time and she wrote on the walls of his house "Kurt smells like teen spirit" which was a perfume back in the days. I was 10 years old in 1994 when this aired on MTV, was 4AM in the morning and it was the first live concert I ever saw. Needless to say that I'm past my grunge days but this unplugged will forever be embeded as something very special in my heart and mind.
When we knew this time Kurt was gone & not coming back due to Kurt’s pause, eyes closed, deep breath out, eyes opened, goodbye....🥺 Every Nirvana fan had this discussion the next day at school, some us were even crying....😥 Queen’s “These Are the Days of Our Lives” & Nirvana’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” from MTV’s Unplugged, are the first two times I have seen someone saying bye forever....👋
This is a pretty good starter song, as it eases you into the tone of the band easily. But it's important to know that the END of this song is what the real sound of the band usually is.
Yes, I sort of "rediscovered" Nirvana a few years ago, after not listening to them in a long time, and I had forgotten just how heavy and hard hitting they actual were.
That wide-eyed reaction happens everytime, and my heart hurts every time at that same time. He was a champion for my demographic and a hero to me personally. I miss This man.
The best band ever! The drummer later started his own band called Foo Fighters (super popular) Kurt was only 27 when he passed. The original singer was a jazz black man in the 40s i believe and kurt sang it word for word with his twist at the end. Im so sorry i forget his name.
It’s a great song, but Nirvana has a ton of great songs. “Polly” “Lake of Fire” (cover of a Meat Puppets song) “Lithium” The most popular song by them is “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, and I seriously doubt you’ve never heard that. I’m sure you probably have heard it at one time or another.
There are many great Nirvana songs/performances, but IMO nothing tops this. The last 30 seconds or so is still the most intense musical experience to me.
His voice was GOLD, the distorted or vibrated sound came from his lung.. this technique is very difficult.. Shame he's gone forever but his legacy will still remain forever RIP Kurdt
Grunge started before nirvana or soundgarden. Undoubtedly the hub was Seattle. Alot of people would argue that bands like pearl jam were far ahead of many in creating the sound. But grunge itself was a form of punk rock, clearly. The art form isn't really relevant and no one can really know the origin, nor does it matter.
@@williamcook9304 a lot of people class guns n roses being quite grunge in some of their songs. Axl Rose most certainly had a grunge voice years ago. 1987 appetite for destruction was released and what an album. But yeah I agree with u.
I personally like many songs from the album "In Utero" better. I would suggest "Milk it", "Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle" or "Serve the servants" It's their latest album when Kurt was alive from 1993. More unique sounding and rare. Also I find that songs more representative for Nirvana's sound. But that's my opinion.
@5:23 Thank you for this review. The performance shows Kurt's appreciation of music and his uncanny ability to invoke Leadbelly's spirit. No distortion and no power chords here. Tell me you don't feel something when you hear it.
Nirvana/Kurt are the very reason I became a musician. Check out "Love Buzz", "Blew", "School." "Scentless Apprentice." "Negative Creep." "Come As You Are." "Serve the Servants." I'm sure you have heard Smells Like Teen Spirit without realizing it. That song is probably the most overplayed Nirvana song in existence. Kurt has said several times in interviews that he hates it.
@@texadan314 Perhaps. But to me i think Blues music was still in its infancy and still flourishing. New artists were being recorded during that era such as Charley Patton and Blind Willie Johnson.
After they left the stage, they were begged to come back for an encore but Kurt said no because he felt there was no way he could top that. As for topping this performance, I don't think so, but other great Nirvana songs are Heart Shaped Box, Smells Like Teen Spirit, All Apologies, About a Girl and Come As You Are both from the Unplugged show, Lithium and You Know You're Right (last song Kurt recorded)
This concert is so epic! I really miss those jam shows like Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains they did on MTV (when it was still actually “music television”). RIP Kurt!
Nirvana songs... go inside your heart... a place that you dont know of yourself... acording to the videos availables React to 1. Smell like teen spirits 2. Heart shaped box. 3. Lithium. 4. In bloom 5. Dumb 6. Lake of fire There are so many
It's so funny watching a new person reacting to a song like this compared to what they're used to, it's the not being able to find a head Bob rhythm that gets me lol. Especially with Tool. Love nirvana, this song won't pull you in I don't think, as much as there poppier songs are. I hope this doesn't turn you off from hearing more from them. I promise you Nirvana will blow your mind if you dive in, I could list a thousand other bands as well but you gotta start somewhere. But good for you for getting into some older music. Great reaction, loved it. Subbed!!
I remember being 13 years old and watching this....not knowing this song but I remember being mesmerized. All the more haunting when you consider Kurt does not long after this performance, right?
Welcome to Nirvana fandom, you picked a great one for your intro to Grunge. I'd suggest some Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains if you want to hear more vocalists like that
Some of my favorites are Lithium, In Bloom, Aneurysm, About A Girl, and Dumb and of course the well known Smells Like Teen Spirit. But you can easily work through their 3 studio albums. Also check out the rest of this MTV Unplugged gig - they did some great covers on there.
I started getting into nirvana in 1993 i was a junior in high school then 1994 when i was 18 a senior i was devastated when i heard he killed himself, dam still Rembert it like it was yesterday, Try Hearing" About a girl' live at the paramount in Seattle it was awesome
After the concert the record label tried to get them to go back out and play some hit songs and Kurt replied there is no way to top that. As far as other songs "Drain you" has what is possibly the greatest 30 seconds in rock when the song falls apart and then slams back together in pure pop energy. The song "radio friendly unit shifter" is their most interesting sound wise and gives a good sense of the unparalleled energy their music contained.
This is my favourite Nirvana performance EVER! Little did we know that it would be their last🖤😢 I was so pleased when 'Nirvana Unplugged' was released as an album. This is IMO the best song on there, even though it was a cover - Kurt's voice & charisma took it to a whole new level - the way he looked up at 6.20 - haunting. Kurt was a gentle but troubled soul who hated fame, but what a wonderful legacy he left us ....I wish he'd got to see his daughter grow up. R.I.P. Kurt Cobain 💔
omgggggg, why does everyone keep thinking this was their last performance?? This was November 18th, 1993 and their last performance was March 1st, 1994. They toured and played MANY more shows after this unplugged performance
According to his biographer, Kurt liked to think of himself as punk, but he was known to listen to old pop music too. If you want to see Nirvana having fun with their band image, the video for "In Bloom" is a must.
Awesome song and performance. A nice introduction to Nirvana for you 😊 This song was from an unplugged concert which is very well known and much loved by many. Their usual style is grunge rock. There are lots of other goodies from them to check out! Enjoy 😎
Great reaction! I'm super biased because I believe in my heart that I'm the #1 Nirvana fan, but my pick for you to listen to would be "About a Girl" off of their debut album "Bleach." It's the only pop sounding song on that album. It isn't like any of the other songs and showcased Kurt's Pop sensibilities. The song has been compared to something that the Beatles would have written.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but this was the second to last live performance of Nirvana. They went to Italy, I believe, and played their last show a little bit after.
Man Who Sold the World from that MTV unplugged set is a great cover of a David Howie song. My band used to play it at open mic nights when we were first starting off. Penny Royale Tea is a great one too.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great song and an amazing performance! But I always feel the intro song to Nirvana should always be Smells Like Teen Spirit. I also feel like whenever someone reacts to a band for the very first time the biggest earliest "hit" should be the first listen. It's fine of course to not do that, I just feel that's the best way to get introduced to a band. Now, as for more Nirvana? I put my vote towards any and all Grunge songs from the 90s!
I was 11 years old, Greece Athens .I was listening heavy metal(maiden, priest, sabbath even motorhead)and i asked an older friend (he was 19 then) to write me a tape , of maiden X factor...and he did...but at the second side of the tape , was the unplugged of Nirvana...it was a love from the first note...before the videos..just the sound of an old damn tape
Congrats, Shiloh. You have taken your first step into an epic world. Nirvana will always be THE band that started the Grunge Revolution of the early '90s. You will enjoy their music, I promise you that. The video suggestions, and enjoy: Smells Like Teen Spirit (the one that started it all) In Bloom Come As You Are Lithium Heart-shaped Box The Man Who Sold The World (Unplugged in New York) About A Girl (Unplugged in New York) All Apologies (Unplugged in New York) Aneurysm (From the Mighty Banks of the Wishkah) School (From the Mighty Banks of the Wishkah) You Know You're Right (their last video together as a band)
It's a great first Nirvana song! They're usually a lot more "hard" rock (I guess?) and this is from the Unplugged (ie acoustic) set they did a couple of months before he Kurt took his own life
proves, like 3 guitars and bass, drums and vocals provides so much depth to music its crazy!! s'why iron maiden sound is so unique and many great rock and metal live bands sound awesome with at least 2 guitarists.
Soo many people gone before their full potential exposed. Thank you for sharing the music. Keep doing what you do. There is so much for you to get to. It is nice to see someone expand their mind to ALL good music

I was a junior in high school....it was devastating.
About 13 when he passed.....next day everyone was wearing those sweaters for Kurt.
Came here to say this, but you said it much better. This song has an incredible history.
WOW 😳
Now I know what a driving wheel is. Thanks
Loretta Lynn sings a version that’s a little long from my understanding this is 2songs combined
Fucking chills. Every time...and I watched this when it originally aired on MTV in the '90s.
That eye pop and breath at the end get me every time I see this video.
"I burn my candle at both ends..
It will not last the night..
But, oh, my foes and ahh,my friends..
It throws a lovely light..."
This is from MTV unplugged it's Kurt Cobain at his best.
6:17 is a moment where he saw his own demons. Such a great performance.
Omg, I loved Soundgarden in the 90’s
The Seattle bands had a massive influence on nineties music.
Not the video tho lol that will distract from how good the song is and Cornell's singing is like in pretty much any song he sang. R.I.P.
One of the biggest Grunge bands ever, brought a different kind of sound to the crowd.
And single handedly ended hair bands
He was always his own. Showed up in a Mister Rogers sweater, belted out this cover of an oooold song, and nailed it.
From the same special: Lake of Fire, or Plateau.
covers...
Both fantastic covers... Hauntingly good!
"The man who sold the world" from this same show, is the best Nirvana song ever (not) written by Nirvana.
Ah yes, the David Bowie cover. I haven't seen that in a while, but I remember it being very well done.
Yeah, I loved that song with Bowie's mysterious lyrics and Cobain's haunting delivery. I still think "Where did you sleep last night" is the best song off the album, but I can totally understand why many others would think "The man who sold the world" is the best. Truth is I think all the songs off the unplugged album are great.
written by nirvana AHAHAHAAHAH
That reaction was exactly what I hoped for. This is one of the greatest live performances ever. It never fails, when his vocals kick in on the last chorus, it's just amazing.
This is probably the best "first reaction" song to listen too by Nirvana. Great choice, that whole album is amazing
Cobain at his best, but not really representative of Nirvana's music...
Which is partly why I like this so much. Not that I don't like Nirvana's usual material, I do, but boy, they really knock this one out of the park. So haunting.
@@michaeljfoley1 the Best, man...
Yeah, love this performance but I agree. Not a good song start your Nirvana journey
@@jessewallace666 Who are you agreeing with? We are all saying it's brilliant. Pretty sure this is considered one of his best too.
It does my heart good to see someone appreciate this song. It still gives me goosebumps to see Kurt put his heart and soul into that.
“SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT”!!!!
The song that launched Nirvana!!!.....and his voice is “Grunge Rock”
Cmon guys let’s help this girl out with the correct Nirvana songs to start with!!!
I see nothing wrong with this song as an entry point to Nirvana.
Smells Like Teen Spirit is probably Nirvana's worst song and only a poseur would call them "grunge rock"
rip off song lol
That final scream is actual pain! Not a gimmick. Wah tears me up..And then gazes at the camera..Chills. wah. Glad u finally listened
Wow, this is a strong 1st song choice for Nirvana. It's not one of their original hits but a cover. The end is so powerful.
I had no idea that my favorite song was also Kurt’s favorite. Thanks for that beautiful piece of information, I like the song even more now.
Best unplugged outta them all. Kurt just has that godlike, or charisma that just can't take your eyes off em..
When we knew this time Kurt was gone & not coming back due to Kurt’s pause, eyes closed, deep breath out, eyes opened, goodbye....🥺
Every Nirvana fan had this discussion the next day at school, some us were even crying....😥
Queen’s “These Are the Days of Our Lives” & Nirvana’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” from MTV’s Unplugged, are the first two times I have seen someone saying bye forever....👋
“Polly”
“Lake of Fire” (cover of a Meat Puppets song)
“Lithium”
The most popular song by them is “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, and I seriously doubt you’ve never heard that. I’m sure you probably have heard it at one time or another.
Polly? Lol no.
Polly
About A Girl
Love Buzz
Sliver
Dumb
Negative Creep
Pennyroyal Tea
Oh Me
Territorial Pissing
Lead Belly, made many songs like this, that others used, like Nirvana.
Kurt and his voice made his own genre called grunge.
Imo soundgarden started grunge, and nirvana was more punk then anything not that they don’t have grungy songs
Sound garden alice in chains were before nirvana.
Oh please "grunge" was more of a aesthetic thing if anything and you should listen to Touch Me I'm Sick
I personally like many songs from the album "In Utero" better.
I would suggest "Milk it", "Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle" or "Serve the servants"
It's their latest album when Kurt was alive from 1993.
These 'Unplugged' songs are, for me, their finest moment. Also 'Plateau' and 'Lake of Fire' from this show are timelessly good.
That is a very old song. He mentioned Lead Belly but Lead Belly wasn't the first to sing it. Some sources say the song dates back to the 1800s.
Correct. But it was Lead Belly that made it the most notable and well known.
@@philthemovieguy81 True. Maybe because he was the most modern?
@@philthemovieguy81 Ryan Upchurch did a good cover more recently.
@@texadan314 Perhaps. But to me i think Blues music was still in its infancy and still flourishing. New artists were being recorded during that era such as Charley Patton and Blind Willie Johnson.
I just knew the version from 1964 from The Four Pennies and it was called 'Black Girl'. It reached Number 20 here in the UK Chart.
u will now "lake of fire" platueau" they were killer," where did u sleep light nite" -in the pines was epic, about a 100 year old song
Bout time. His emotions show Soo strongly on this intimate performance! Chills and tears for day. RIP Kurt
For me, Cobain and Staley were the voices of grunge - and grunge died with them. A very important era in rock music.
Girl there is no bad choice when it comes to Kurt ❣️ Perfect song choice!
RIP Kurt!
Nirvana songs... go inside your heart... a place that you dont know of yourself... acording to the videos availables React to
1. Smell like teen spirits
2. Heart shaped box.
3. Lithium.
4. In bloom
5. Dumb
6. Lake of fire
There are so many
Thanks for the list! ☺️☺️
Definitely the best nirvana song ever! Good choice for your first nirvana song!
It’s a truely great performance yes 😌 it’s not a ‘Nirvana’ song though. It’s a Lead Belly cover.
you know you're right, something in the way, all apologies, lake of fire, come as you are. these are really good nirvana songs
Welcome to Nirvana fandom, you picked a great one for your intro to Grunge.
I'd suggest some Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains if you want to hear more vocalists like that
thats GRUNGE rock in the 90's - kurt was amazing, tons of songs where he goes from mellow to a scream lol
I saw Nirvana live in concert, in 1993. Best concert of my life!
I started getting into nirvana in 1993 i was a junior in high school then 1994 when i was 18 a senior i was devastated when i heard he killed himself, dam still Rembert it like it was yesterday, Try Hearing" About a girl' live at the paramount in Seattle it was awesome
Like Krist said "This is for you Kurt.." every time someone discovers the music of nirvana. Love
Kurt always breaks my heat, he was so special. God bless you Kurt x
Nirvana were the greatest rock band ever.
The video suggestions, and enjoy:

His final performance and possibly the last autograph he ever gave. The whole show was awesome. The emotion in that scream gets me every time.
final performance was actually in march 1994 in i think munich(?), this was recorded in november 93. definitely their best performance tho
probably Nirvana's most iconic live performance. this is Nirvana's softer side.
Fantastic cover they did. I grew up with Nirvana and many other great bands. Nirvana has lots of great songs. Lyrical content is fantastic.
Oh god, the breath and the eye's right before the last line always gets me!!!
He was a big part of starting the hype of the grunge genre. One of the greatest vocalists you will ever hear. And truly one of the kindest humans we ever had
I love that you started your Nirvana journey with this dramatic ass cover from like the 30's or something lol. Aneurysm is another great track from them. ☝❤

That's what makes Kurt so special and real. He isn't the greatest technically. But pours his emotions into everything. Which is better in my opinion
