    That laugh in the background was priceless! May I suggest having your sonic screwdriver taken in for maintenance? LOL! Seriously, I have grown to truly appreciate all you have shared with us! Thank you!

    Hi. Great videos thanks and just watched the other video where you demonstrated expansion bolts. Please can anyone here help - I notice you are using spacers to fill the void between solid wall and plasterboard but I don’t quite understand how this is being applied. Thanks.

    I appreciate you this video is old. I have a 56kg 86 inch tv to put onto Dot Dab wall. What’s the best way to do this? Is it using corefix or cutting the wall to put ply wood in the attach to ply wood??

    the Core fixings you recommended on your website are amazing!

    If you are unsure about fixing onto plasterboard sections of the d&d youcould locate the solid dab areas, mark them on a card template then transfer to the wall plate. You then drill your own screw holes on the plate if theres not one in position over a dab. Then use regular wall plugs. This method would only work with a largish plate bracket.

    Nice video. Today I got all the stuff to fit a TV to a masonry wall only to discover it's a dot and dab wall with a cavity before the brickwork. I'm sure there's a lesson there... Anyway, reassuring to know it's possible to do it, however in this instance I think I'm just going to return the wall mount cos my wife gets bothered about holes in the wall.

    So the third hole needs to be different and drilled on a slant then??

    Looking at installing my 65" 21kg TV with six of the corefix dot and dab specific fittings. Oddly alot of brackets say not suitable for dot and dab walls, I would think that was a fixings issue not the bracket. Do you think 6 of the 100mm corefix fittings would suffice?

    How would you recommend putting a tv mount onto a brick wall that has a layer of insulation board and plasterboard too? There is prob around 40mm before hitting the brick.

    Great video. Unfortunately come a little late. I put a 65" tv on the wall with gripit fixings and it fell off!. I have ordered some sleeve anchors. My wall is dot and dab. You mentioned spacers to protect the plasterboard. What do you recommend? Do they come with the anchors? Lastly a tilt and turn wall bracket for 65" tv are sleeve anchors the best fitting

      How heavy was TV, aren't those fittings rated for like 100kgs between 4?

    Would this method be good to hang a 20kg tv on drywall hung with furring strips to a cinder block wall? There is about a 1/2 inch gap in between the drywall and the cinder block. If not, do you have any recommendations? Thanks for the videos!

  • @GS-km5yu

    Hi mate,
    I've a 55" TV.
    Would that be too heavy for this kind of wall?
    The bracket is tiny, like the size of an iPhone.
    With the bracket being so small, do you think it will be too much weight for such a small area?
    Thanks in advance

    How much of the wll anchor is actually in the solid wall behind? doesn't look like you have drilled far enough in ! it looks like there is not much bearing on the anchor.

    What size shield anchors did you use? I need to hang a 58” 24kg tv on a dot n Dab wall, I’d feel safer with a greater load capacity. Seems like my plasterboard and cavity might be approx 25 ml together...

    Hello was wondering is this the most secure way, is it better than hanging from the stud(only 1 stud they are quite far apart) i have a 49' tv

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a solid wall so no studs. On a hollow wall always go from studs if poss. 👍

  • @Andyfishing23
    @Andyfishing23 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Andy... Can I ask why you drill a hole using a standard masonry bit then use a flat wood bit to cut a bigger piece out of the drywall? Can this not just be done with the one masonry bit and bang in the bolt? Cheers.

    Hy, I'm fitting TV brackets to plaster boards and the studs are the aluminium studs which can't be fixed to so only method is plasterboard fixings.
    Iv used the self drive metal ones which you screw in wall and they make their own whole then you screw the screw it comes with into. Are these strong enough? If I use 4 to 6 per bracket?

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't use spiral self screwing fittings - they're terrible. Depending on the weight I'd just go for the expanding drywall fittings with a setting tool - they're rated to around 15kg each. 👍

    Can you help.....
    If I get asked to box in pipes or something and need to attach the 3x2 battons or even 2x2 battons to a plasterboard wall, how do I do it? The standard drywall screws which are great but obviously won't be longer enough to pass through the batton and into the wall?

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can counterbore the 2x2 so enough of the threaded end comes through. In all honestly probably overkill for most boxing and you might get away with plastic plugs with 10ga screws and also some grab adhesive on the 2x2's. 👍

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There must be studs so treat it as a stud wall. 👍

  • @thecarguychannel

    On this type of wall can you use the big thick plastic type wall plugs that come in the fitting kits?

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't particularly advise it unless they're very long as the dot & dab adds about 30mm distance to cover. 👍

    I have an Ikea fold away kitchen table with a swing arm that I have
    mounted underneath the only window in my 100 year old, lath &
    plaster kitchen. The Mounting area is a "T" shape, with one screw on
    each end and a 2" perpendicular piece down the center with two screws.I
    have it well anchored on a stud on one side, and in the center, but the
    left side keeps pulling out of the wall because there is no stud there.
    Even this last time using a large Phillips head toggle bolt, it
    gradually pulled out. Any ideas on how to get that side to stay affixed
    to the wall? I thought about attaching a large piece 1/4" plywood to
    the wall first so it covers the next stud, and to give the toggle bolt
    more to bite into. Does anyone have any better solution?

  • @paulgiblin807

    Over kill. Seems like u have a concrete wall behind the plaster board. All u needed was some 10 gauge 3 inch screws and some brown plugs. Making sure u hit the plugs in past the plaster board and into the concrete blocks. If was thermal block wall the use the square anchors. No need to drill just hammer them in.

    What type of fixings are these?

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wall bolts - sometimes called shield anchors.

    • @bikesrcooldan
      @bikesrcooldan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it looks like a standard expansion bolt which can be used for concrete masonry etc but you are using some sort of cap for the plasterboard which is a good idea to stop the bolt from damaging the plasterboard. I recently came across Rigifix fixings for dot and dab walls which seem to be essentially an internally threaded expansion bolt within a sleeve which seem like the same thing. buyrigifixonline.co.uk/
      They are expensive though at about a pound a fixing and your method seems like a cheaper option. Where do you get the caps for the bolts from do you have a product name I could look up?
      Helpful video though gave me the inspiration to try to hang my tv on my dot and dab plaster board walls!
      Thanks!

      Ah, yes - just nylon spacers left over from putting many, many TV brackets up! :-) I think you can buy them separately off eBay and the like. Also check out www.corefixed.com/

    What is DOT & DAB ??

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's basically plasterboard / drywall glued to the wall (normally blocks) with dabs of plaster.

    • @UrbanChamp
      @UrbanChamp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you knock on these walls, some areas will sound dense (that's where the plaster is behind the cavity wall) and so the other parts of the wall will sound hollow
