It is because women are protected by law from military service, under current law they will never have to be in the military unless they want to. Men on the other hand do not get their right to vote unless they register for the draft and therefore have to possibility of being drafted into a war they dont support.

I think most misunderstand the meaning of "pandemic." It really just means that a never before seen disease is experiencing suatained growth in dispersed locations throughout the world. There is no sense of danger or lethality or apocalypse built into the word. So one could speak of a mild pandemic that kills no one and be consistent with its literal definition. But most associate it with severe disease.

The best thing to do is remain calm and try to prepare for what you can.

It might be a good time to find a pharma company that operates manufacturing in the USA and buy heavy into them because the back lash from the break down in supply chains is going to create regulation to require a certain amount to be manufactured in country.

What is your argument,?l Let's spell it out. I think that televisions are made in China and not the US because the labor rates to produce televisions (and to a lesser degree, land costs, building maintenance and tax burden is lower in China) than it is in the US. And make that choice, despite it taking 3 to 6 weeks longer to go from factory to storeroom floor based on cost, possible translation problems between design and manufacture and myriad of other issues that shippers have to deal with in order to manufacture outside their own country.
But by all means, enlighten me to the other benefits that companies are enjoying. I am willing to be informed by your vast wealth of knowledge on the subject.

I understand you're poorly spoken and changed the topic. The topic is the global supply chain and why things are manufactured in Asia.
To correct you on your new topic, it isn't globalization at all, what you're talking about is product differentiation. That's covered in Marketing 101, or maybe 121, depending on your university.
But you are 100% correct. Different companies make different TVs and they are not all the same price. The point, though, is THEY'RE ALL MADE IN CHINA.

Global supply chains are developed to reduce the costs of things. That's the entire reason. If you want to manufacture things better, you do it in the US, or maybe Western Europe. If you want to do it quicker, you put the plant closer to your market (not 3 weeks by vessel away).
People use "Globalization" to talk about sort of cross-border politics and mixing of ideologies, that's fine. But when it comes to supply chains being interrupted by the Corona Virus, we're talking about global logistic processes, which are driven by costs (or profit margins if you prefer).
Changing the subject with every reply won't prove any points. Let it go. You spoke out of turn and got put in the dunce corner.

First comment: Misunderstood the concept of globalization of supply chains.
Second comment: Brought in the idea of product differentiation as a rational for global supply chains. Was clearly illustrated to be incorrect, because all TVs are made in China
Third comment: Arguing that globalization doesn't happen in order to reduce costs, but just sort of happens randomly, as if corporations don't operate to make more profit.
Fourth comment: Claimed to have read Wealth of Nations, but doesn't understand comparative advantage and how it drives trade, the main takeaway from the book (PS, the US doesn't send any TVs to Asia. We do send a whole bunch of grain, cotton and even hay).

Hello Ben it’s true that in Switzerland they prohibit gathering from more then 1000 people and if there is one they need to communicate it straight to the government (Bundesrat) and they will decide if it’s allowed. Many big events are already canceled like the carnival in Bern (Capital city) and Basel (my town) ,the car salon in Geneva and in Zurich all concerts. Total cases in Switzerland has risen to 17 cases first case was detected in south of Switzerland in the canton of Ticino near the Italian border.

I don't trust their 2% statistics yet when we already know the Chinese aren't counting people who die before they can test them. Don't be dumb. Always be prepared for any emergency and be stocked up on supplies. I started doing that years ago. Globalism only makes these situations worse as we can now see.
@@SaneMillennial Globalism is like anything else with its positives and negatives. There's a lot of reasons to be wary of it and I hope a global government is a very long ways off unless everyone from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe suddenly adopts American values, and even then, I'm not wild about it. Looking at the Iraq war and how Iraq did not embrace our values, that's not happening any time soon. However, the world effectively shrinks as technology speeds up our travel and communication. That aspect of globalism seems unavoidable.

I live in San Antonio, where the cruise ship passengers were flown into for further quarantine. Some even tested positive for it while here at the Air Force base. Thank you Ben! The president has so little effect on the stock market I don’t know why it’s even mentioned at all. Let’s think about this for a moment. Take the 2008 financial crisis. The deregulation that directly effected the cause of the Great Recession was made law in the mid 90’s. That’s how long it can take for political risk to directly effect the economy and markets. Of course there are other things like tax law changes. Tariffs etc but there’s not a whole lot the president can do to effect the economy. It’s a joke. The media knows it’s a joke but it’s a deadly political tool hence it gets used.

Pandemic response definitely is a legitimate use of Federal money. Pretty much a good rule of thumb for a federal program is "Does any citizen get to choose whether or not to use the program without restriction?" If no, it's likely to need cutting. Rich, poor, male, female, etc... doesn't matter with pandemics. Everyone benefits. Everyone benefits from military and police protection. Interstates can be used by luxury car owners and beater owners. National parks are open to all citizens. All good uses of federal money. Social Security is not because it is not a choice.
Sorry Ben but for the first time I don't necessarily agree with you I think that if we are going to make a mistake we need to make that mistake on the side of being cautious versus on the side of being complacent
