    Haven't dyed my hair in a long time. I generally prefer red-orange tones. I have had a lot of people including stylists be surprised that my hair holds the reds for quite a while. And that was even before I had a better understanding of how to preserve hair color. Will be nice in the future next time I dye it to see how long I can keep it radiant!

    🤦‍♀️ I would deliberately wait and not wash my hair for 2 weeks to make sure that the color takes. Lol no wonder it didn't always work. Lol I'm naturally multicolored so that could have been part of it as well. I have light brown, dark brown, black with red and blonde natural highlights with natural grey, white and silver hair as well now. I love the Ion dyed and line and also Sally Beauty. Thank you for this Video, been thinking about dying my hair again and you gave me some ideas of a better way to do it now.

    Great video! I definitely see why you need to go to school for this. You literally blew my mind about washing and treating your hair before a color. I also just got the curlsmith hair dryer and it is so amazing. The diffuser is so big!! I used it for the first time today and I thought it would be easier but it’s been a long time since I got a hair dryer and I’m going to need a Manes by Mell tutorial!! Love you guys so much. I look forward to your videos. ❤️❤️❤️

  • @Egag77
    @Egag77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I NEVER leave comments - that said, since I dye my hair red (which Mel points that the molecules fade the quickest) I recommend making a diy overtone conditioner when your color fades and you need to deepen it. One part manic panic/Arctic fox or Adore with 2 parts non silicone conditioner. Although my hair is red this can also apply to darkening hair with a brown tone. This way I also keep my dimension (highlights). This may not work as a permanent solution BUT if you want to experiment with darkening your shade it is also a safer (non damaging) BUILDABLE semi-permanent way to try it out. Since transitioning my fried super porous hair about a year ago I have only colored the entirety of my hair with chemicals once and my hair is just as vibrant as it was when I was refreshing the color with chemicals every time I retouched my roots. You can also use this method to warm up ash tones. Hope this made sense 😂 Just a suggestion ♥️ Mel your hair looks frickin’ incredible (as usual) ♥️

    Ion’s been one of my favorite brands for the last few years because the products make my Sicilian fro so soft and shiny, it smells amazing, and their toners have greatttt color payoff. Plus it’s cheap af compared to anything else in the same league. Their Agebeautiful ultra bond conditioning treatment is better than any Olaplex treatments I’ve used. High porosity, 3C, dry ass, longggg hair so if anyone has that going on maybe their stuff will work for you🤷🏽‍♀️. Great as a deep conditioner if you wash your hair 1-2X/week too. Can’t believe more people don’t mention it on here. So happy you got into it💃🏽!!

    This was really fun to learn! Thanks!
    For products after color, is there anything specific I should try for orange/red? I get a good 3 months out of it. Real color very dark brown with grey & white. I’ve been a 7OR for years with varying shades of blonde highlights. I let my stylist/friend have fun with those. In 10 years, there were only 2 I wasn’t crazy about & I agreed in advance. (Thin “sun kissed” lights and low lights.)
    This also makes me appreciate her even more. The first time she did my hair was a color correction. I wanted natural red highlights. My then stylist showed me the fire engine color red he thought would be fun & kept trying to talk me into. I specifically said no & showed him the swatch. I didn’t want to need to bleach it. I didn’t realize what he did until he said how the bleaching made it pop. The lighting conveniently changed a bit & I couldn’t see it that well. Then he did a fun up do for free.
    When I got home & took out all the pins I saw the fire engine red streaks & the uneven cut. A stylist friend 900 miles away said try a clarifying shampoo. It was then neon orange.
    I found someone with an opening 2 days later. It took 4 hours, but she made my hair look amazing & I had a new stylist. No one touches my color but her.

I didnt wnat to do my roots (most natural hair on my head\shows growth) buut i diiid attempt to cover some grays for now just to see how it looks\if it takes. Hoping for no green lol. & Used "ethnic" well i assume it was it was a purple box dye... Yeah DARK & LOVELY FAD RESIST! Hair already feels good (conditioner on) & dye smelled good!

    Can I apply the same steps if I want to change my highlighted curls to a deep navy blue? My hair is about a level 5, VERY fine, and the color is what i would describe as grey brown, and the highlights range from level 8 to level 10 -it was all rinsed at the same time so different sections had different processing times-. I want my navy blue hair to have dimension, and I sometimes wear my hair straightened, but mostly curly!
