Ultima Online continued the tradition of previous Ultima games in many ways, but due to advancing technology and the simple fact that it was Origin's first persistent online game, many new game mechanics appeared. Partially designed as a social and economic experiment, the game had to account for widespread player interaction as well as deal with the tradition of players feeling as if they were the center of attention, as had been the case in single-player games.

Thanks for the great mix. Been listening to this over the last couple of days to get some great nostalgia and feels. I really appreciate it. Sometimes I wish I could go back to junior high where macroing and making sure my 7x7 character was all squared away was the most important thing in my life. I know that speaks to a lot of privilege, but it brings up a lot of good memories of growing up. Thanks for sharing this.

Brings back some great memories of the greatest game of all time ! Baja server 96', LoTD (Lords of the Dead) ! the very first "PK" guild, vs the (good) Guardians of Virtue and the good (blue) Korean players at the west brittania crossroads !!! fighting every saturday afternernoon about 3pm cst, and my guild - The neutral "lords of poverty" looting the dead combatants on both sides every weekend!

I remember LoTD - played with a few even after UO in Shadowbane, until that went belly up. Shadowclan was on Catskills (where I was) and we were rivals in Shadowbane. Good times :)

Ahhhhh, seeing all these screenshots makes my heart ache. It's both a good and bad ache. I'm sad that Ultima Online is gone, but I'm so grateful that I got to be a part of it and it's forever a part of who I am. That sounds dramatic but I mean it. It came to me during my formative years and I'm not exaggerating that it's part of what made me who I am today.
