Mia's favorite hobby isn't sewing, thrifting, baking, or crocheting. It's video editing and she refuses to admit it. For real though, I love green screen. Perfect video for my birthday today!
Girl the fact that you even attempted the waves from the 30’s 😭😂 your determination is unmatched! In hair school doing that to a mannequin was extremely difficult and you tried to do it on yourself and with only 4 clips lol I’d say for a first effort it wasn’t bad!
This needs to be a series! It was so fun. More hair products, makeup, fashion, jewelry, etc. The 80s and 70s were definitely my favorites. They suited you so well!
THAT AUBURN HAIR OMG the color, the hairstyle, the BANGS. literally stared at the screen with an open mouth for the whole time 😭😭 i think Mia’s natural hair color suits her wonderfully and i adore how beautiful she is, but if she ever wanted a drastic change…. that would look amazing
The darker color and bangs with that wig looked so cute on you, Mia. The color really accentuates your beautiful, porcelain skin. Here’s to me praying that you someday go for something along the same lines! (Though you look beautiful no matter what hair style and color you’re working with.)
As a cosmetology student, I do advise testing the hot tools before use. You can do so by taking a paper towel or tissue and leave it in the hot tool as long as you would with your hair. If the tester you used burned or changed color, definitely do not use it! This is just a tip ^^
You mean if the paper towel turns brown/burns? Wouldn’t that just indicate to lower the temp and/or reduce the amount of time it’s in contact with your hair? Even using my hot tools at appropriate temps, if I hold them in my hair for too much time, my hair will get damaged/burn.
@@mandyheart8754 The use of this test is not to see if it will damage your hair, because heat will always do that. The use of this test is to see if the heating component to the tool is broken or not. If it burns or browns the paper towel, it will actually burn off your hair. Hope this helped!
Saaaame! Laughed at the finger waves, cringed at the vintage iron and had flashbacks of burning myself on one of those crazy little stoves. A few of them at my school would sporadically spark at the plug but they wouldn’t throw them away because they couldn’t get them anymore 😭
OMG Mia that denim jacket, that striped turtleneck. The amount of outfits in this video that absolutely *slay me* I am *slain* like I have *actually died* like it’s tragic
Oh and I think, hands down, the “70’s” heat up curlers in the box with the water did the best! They were so beautiful and seemed like the curles would last all day. And Mama Maples was living! Nostalgia was real.
IMAGINE! My dream video: Mia Maples colabs with one of the fun historical clothing creators, and she buys outfits/dresses and tries them while also getting a bunch of fun and interesting facts from said collab partner!
I think the most common curling method pre-electricity was rag curls :) Heatless and dried overnight, combined with hair pomades and powders! I would LOVE to see Mia try doing some 18th century hairstyles a la madame Pompidou and Marie Antoinette
Green screen chaos is exactly what we’re here for! As a former hairstylist I adore this video, too, and your willingness to try some pretty difficult techniques. If you ever want to try the finger waves or metal rollers again, both are meant to be done starting with wet hair drowning in product. Since electric hair dryers weren’t available for at-home use back then, and hood dryers were the only options at salons, wet sets that could air dry or go under the hood dryer were the standard. Taking much smaller sections of hair will also help a ton. I’d love to see more videos like this!
Girl.... you could go earlier 1800's.... try rags.... you have not seen chaos curls until you have done this. Using towel material is best, and you sleep with them in. They are torn about 6 inches long, and one inch wide, and you roll your dampened (not wet) hair up in it and tie it in a knot. The curls last forever even on strait fine/stubborn hair. Give it a shot, the results are hilarious and very glamourous :D (disclaimer- these are instructions for shorter hair, for longer hair, you would need to do the wrap method, which there are videos for that)
I must say that this video has EASILY become one of my favorites, it was so fun and engaging with the green screen and we definitely need a part 2 of this series😂😂❤❤❤❤
Mia do vintage kitchen gadgets and gizmos for food they cooked back when, whenever, wherever you choose to time travel! Costumes preferably too!. Dress, shop, Cook it, and EAT it. That was so much fun.
I was ready to comment on how the crimped hair looks soooo good on you. I was convinced it could not get any better but THAT 70's HAIR on you!?! Gorgeous! How is it so perfect!?! I hope you find an easier and less painful way to get that look. It suits you so incredibly good!
10/10 on the opening of this video. No notes. Just perfect. Mias here with Friday energy ❤ Edit: all the editing in this video is brilliant. Love this style!
I loved hot roller from 70s curls. I had 2 sets from late 70s early 80s (no water required) & only used for special occasions but loved them! Except I burnt the crap out of my fingers! Loved that hairstyle on you!!!!
The tiny old curling iron you put in the flame, they used them mostly just for fringe/bangs. Those are from at least the 1880s possibly earlier. Definitely a fun and interesting thing to try for sure!
Hi, Mia! Really enjoyed the video, especially the green screen. The last curling iron you used is called a Marcel curler. I thought you did really well for a first-time use. Marcel curling irons have remained in use in some black households and salons even up to this day! I grew up with my aunty curling my hair with large barrel marcels on the stove. She would check the heat by pressing it on a paper towel to ensure it didn't burn my hair. Watching you work with one was a nostalgic moment for me, for sure! In salons, a small stove would sit at on the workspace of the stylist's booth and there would be an array of different sized Marcels to pull from and heat up as needed. Some beauticians still use these irons today! A beautician who was really proficient would even spin the Marcel curling irons in the air while holding one handle to cool them. It was very impressive and very neat to watch! Love your videos! Keep up the great work. 😄
Mia! The brown hair is so pretty on you it makes your eyes pop a bit 🤍 that color is what I was hoping for when Brad did your hair! Or something fun like a baby pink or lilac lol
Mia's video's have always been charming and silly but they are becoming laugh-out-loud hysterical. The green screen was a new level 🤣 Also, the 70's curls were GORGEOUS!
YES! It is SO fun! Transforms your look like nothing else. I would crimp chunky sections at a time and leave the rest of my hair straight. Made it a little less voluminous (which I wanted)--definitely a look 😂.
I was a teen of the 80’s and watching you use the crimping iron made me wince with remembering getting hand cramps as I learned to use it. I LOVED the big hair days! I didn’t have a lot of confidence in my face but I figured I could distract people from my face with big, awesome hair!
Oh I absolutely had a crimping iron like that but in a different color scheme. We used the heck out of them as kids! Those and those spiky looking electric rollers of my mom's. Voluminous, girl! 😂❤
Yes, it definitely is possible that Mama Maples is a child of the 60's. She would have had to have been born between 65 and 69, making her somewhere between 55 and 59 and in the generation known as X. That's not old, this is what a woman who eats well, exercises, is a none smoker, doesn't over consume alcohol, and has a cheerful heart, looks like now-a-days. I have a Clairol 20 Instant Hair Setter, was mums then she passed it to me, the rollers sit in a holder that heats up, each roller has a red spot on top that turns red once its hot enough then you put them in your hair with the grips that come with it, the Rollers come in three sizes in the container, small, medium and large. Great item and great fun to use.
Just gotta say, as a former Cosmetology student; finger waves were the HARDEST! But, looked awesome! When done correctly, which took a village...huge props to you for your first ever effort!!!
Mia on the hot rollers, please unplug curler unit before pouring the water in. Also after they heat up you can leave the lid open. ❤ From a 70’s girl. You looked so cute in all styles!
Being that I'm an 80's kid myself ,I have to say I love how the crimper did for your hair! It makes me want to thrift one for nostalgia! But I really liked the 70's curlers!
I'm a hair and make-up artist for the theatre and we still use all of these things. Especially the "torture device". But we have the little oven to heat it up. It takes some practice to get a feeling for the right temperature and most of us have dangerous methods to test how hot the iron is. I think you did a really good job with all of these. When you said that it feels like you're an amateur doing one of the hardest hairstyles you were right. It took a lot of practice to learn it. It's also possible to get waves like that with the hot curling iron, but that's even harder and more dangerous.
I used hot rollers every day for over 15 years. They worked perfect every time. They were incredibly fast too. 20 minutes from rolling the hair to finished style. I had long hair. Half of the time I had the Farah Fawcet hair style. Loved my hot rollers!!!
I'm going to sound so old, but my mom used to crimp my hair back in the 90s and it felt magical as a little kid. I loved when the early 2000s brought it back and I'm hoping it comes back with the Y2K revival.
I was a 90's kid, and my mom used to braid my hair, and then we would take it out and wear it crimpy. She used to use rollers in my hair for curls, but I got sick of them, so I switched to braids for crimps.
