I think my favorite thing about this company is repurposing the luggage for kids in foster care. We had so many foster children come to our house with just a grocery bag or trash bag and that’s all. It’s such a demoralizing experience. While a suitcase may not seem like a big deal to most people, it can be such a huge thing for a child in foster care!

Former airline employee here- best advice is to always print our your flight itinerary (also helps to have hotel info) with your name and contact info and place it so it’s the FIrST thing that is seen when someone opens your suitcase. I just commented something like this! My mom bought some luggage from Unclaimed baggage a few years back, and when we got home we found what we think was the owner's info in one of the pockets! So now we put our information where it can be seen easily, as soon as you open the bag. Doesn't seem like airlines care to look after the luggage tag falls off.

4:00 What I don't love about this, is that I know airlines often DON'T try very hard to reunite people with their luggage. They say that they do, but they don't. My husband's was lost at one point, when he left town for work as a federal officer. He called for three days, with a description of the bag, with his name written on it in huge letters, and they said they couldn't find it. He said it contained sensitive contents, so he would have to launch and investigation, and they reiterated there was nothing they could do.
So he sends one of his co-workers to pay a visit to the airport. He uses some of his contacts to get in there to look for the bag, and he found it immediately.
As per usual, airlines are the worst, and all I could think of when you were reading that description was the people who no doubt tried very hard to get their suitcase back, and did not get any meaningful assistance at all.

Yeah im kind of surprised theres not more comments about this tbh. I love that they donate the “unclaimed” bags but ive also heard LOTS of stories about how airlines just dont care at all to help people who have lost their luggage. Very unfortunate for people who lose their stuff but I suppose if it were me id rather it be donated than be thrown away /:

This is unfortunately very true. Not just for luggage though. When I was 14 or so, I accidentally left my nearly brand new iPod Touch in the back of the seat in front of me. I realised within minutes of getting off the plane. We turned around and went right back and spoke to one of the staff members there. It was a gift from my older sister which she had purchased using one of her first paychecks so it was super special. The staff member advised us that there was nothing she could do and to contact lost and found. Guess what never showed up in lost and found.
Singapore Airlines. I expected way better.
My little sister was so upset she cried for hours (she was 12 at the time).

As someone who lived in foster homes when they were younger, the fact that they give suitcases to kids in foster care is amazing. I used to carry all of my clothes in a book bag that had a big tear in it and the zipper wouldn't close properly so having a nice suitcase like that would have been a blessing.
Also, I have those same earbuds. they are amazing! There is also an app that you download where you can customize your hearing experience, and if you cover up one earbud (or long press) on it, you can make them block out noise or hear ambient noises around you.

All the flying I’ve done, (grew up a military kid with extended family at LEAST 1000 miles away, often in a whole other country), it’s amazing I’ve never had lost luggage, though the military shipping company did lose an entire crate of my family’s household goods once when we moved overseas.
My mom only had lost luggage once, and it did arrive on a later flight so they called her and an airline employee even delivered it to her house, awesome service.
Anyway, if I did lose luggage and it couldn’t find me for whatever reason, the thought of my items being enjoyed by someone else is much more palatable than thinking about my stuff in a landfill!

I used to work in Huntsville, AL, which is just down the road from where Unclaimed Baggage is. Their e-commerce items are likely a selected fraction of what comes in. Good but visibly worn stuff goes into the main store, and the unsellable items (underwear, perscriptions, broken, very worn) have to be recycled or trashed.
My roommate currently works for Goodwill, and they have similar process: e-commerce for the best, in-store for usable items, and recycle/trash for the rest. E-commerce takes extra work - photography, payment processing, packing and shipping. So it only makes sense for higher-value items.

What always freaks me out, is that many many people online are talking about their experience of losing luggage and a lot of airlines just don't care. Even if you have it geo tagged or whatever. And then ~maybe~ seeing your suitcase that you had no chance of getting back, online or on sales sides (however little the chance) must be so devestating 😅

It’s crazy and cool that there’s been so many videos made about that place and it’s just a common place to us who live here lol. Also they have some really cool props from movies right when you enter. Like Hoggle from The Labyrinth, which used to be one of my favorite movies when I was little. Montreal airport are the best to loose people luggage! We came back from Paris and the lady literally said I was lying about where my AirTag was when I said to her that it wasn’t in Paris it was literally in the airport. But they put the fault on Paris airport and not them. After a 7 hours flight they said we were tired and not looking at the right place but we did look and we didn’t found it. Worst experience ever with this company. We were really lucky that someone working at the airport found it and send it to us back home two weeks later. Still to this day we are still waiting on the company for a refound for our time. But at least we got it back! 😍 so happy for this company to help others people tho thank you for your video ❤

Can someone tell me if it’s because the original owners are getting at least a decent payout for what they lost or are these companies just making bank on items they get for next to nothing? Much appreciated to anyone who has more knowledge about this than I do!

When I lost my luggage, I was able to fill out a form detailing everything I had to buy during my trip to replace my things I had packed with images of all receipts for proof and I got the money a couple months later. Tbh it was a really tedious and annoying process. Thankfully tho I didn't lose my bag permanently, but I know if you do you can fill out a similar form listing every thing that was in your bag and their value and you will get that money. Still sad though, because some things have sentimental value and can't be rebought or replaced!

    • @Sakanamoto
      @Sakanamoto 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@izabella.zalewski I just certainly hope these people who lose some of these pricy items are getting back a good portion of that money and that’s why some of this stuff is so expensive and not just these companies saying “Oh that’s (x) brand, we can charge out the wazoo for it because people will buy it.”
And you are right, some things money can’t replace and it is very sad. Gives me such anxiety thinking about losing my bag when traveling…not that I travel much but still. Thanks for sharing! They really should find a way to make lost bag process easier for people as many might just not bother because of inconvenience and that is awful.

I still don't understand with technology these days how air lines loose so much... Like how can't you connect an owner with their bag with barcodes/QR Codes??? You should be able to identify who a bag belongs too, without much difficulty. If you can track a parcel from point A to point Z it shouldn't be that hard. Scan a barcode/QR code that brings up the owners contact info... Call them, email them, send them an alert notification to say where it is as it's scanned. Airports are too lazy and that shouldn't be the luggage owners problem/loss.

Several years ago I saved up and bought myself a $400 pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses. Then I got on a roller coaster with them in my hoodie pocket. Dumb move, I know. As we went over a hill I saw something fly by out of the corner of my eye. Yep, gone. I’d had them about a week. I walked off of that ride in shock. There’s a big sign in the ride queue letting you know that they do not go get your lost items for you. All I could think was I hope some employee gets them soon and gets to enjoy them. The only thing worse than losing them in the first place would be them never getting worn and enjoyed by someone else. So don’t feel bad about enjoying these “lost” items. At least they are going on to be enjoyed again, rather than rotting away.
