I added one to my iMac a year ago. All audio-related storage and interfaces connect through the dock. I will be able to plug the dock into my new portaStudio (M1 MacBook Air) and have everything be the same for studio work - my kind of portability. Works great
That is a very nice dock, I like the fact that the connection cable is replaceable. Having the card slots in the front it a big plus. Yesterday I had to retire one of the cheap ones because the attached cord failed. This dock may be my replacement.

I have one and it works great. I run my MacBook Pro in clamshell mode, and with this dock, it's basically a very powerful desktop computer. Pull one connection and out the door and I have a very powerful fully charged laptop.

damnit Joe, I want to buy it and I don't even have Thunderbolt 3.
I have been using a Thunderbolt 3 Dock from OWC since 2018, I wish OWC and other Thunderbolt 3 Dock manufacturers could have 10GbE RJ45 with AVB support. I also needs a couple of HDMI 2.0 ports (4k60). Lastly mine does not play nice with most Windows 10 Thunderbolt 3 PCs. PCIe 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 are serious bottlenecks with 40G available bandwidth for Thunderbolt 3. I hope we move to PCIe 4.0 or even 5.0, and DisplayPort 2.0.
Does it bus power controllers? Does it add noticeable latency?
Hm... Actualy not a lot of thunderbolt ports on this box. Only 2.
As you use one to connect your computer you just got one. And consequently this is not one more, it only replaces the one on your computer you use for connecting to this box.
So there is no benefice at all regarding thunderbolt.
The gain is just for the USB & cards additional ports and I think you can maybe find less expansive box for this purpose.

I get OWC Dock with MacBook Pro M1 Sonoma but I have problem: MBP don't recognize my master midi (simple usb connect at OWC) so I can't use with Mainstage or Logic, also my ext audio card (Scarlett 4i4) don't receive power (usb at usb) from OWC, also ethernet port don't work. At this point maybe there is my error.. but where? I download OWC driver... Ah my cable from Mac at Dock is NOT thunderbolt.. but can be that's my problem?? My peripherical NOT thunderbolt. Thank you at all and sorry form my bad english
I would have preferred a bigger (Mac mini) footprint with integrated power supply. There are already too many power supplies under my desk .

Great review, definately thinking of buying one after seeing this but I have one question i you can help. I want to run 3 cameras into 3 usb ports on the dock, will macbook recognise them as 3 seperate cam's so I can switch between them in my streaming software? Hope that makes sense :) Thanks
I don’t know. If it works normally it should work with this.

How would I go about attaching 2 monitors and the 2019 MacBook Pro to this unit : 1 Dell via HDMI and 1 legacy Apple HD Cinema Display 23" with DVI? Thanks for the help!!
I think it depends on the monitor. I've honestly not tried it.
My pc doesnt have any thunderbolt connection with this i could use thunderbolt products like the apollo solo thunderbolt?
No. You need Thunderbolt on your computer to use Thunderbolt devices.
I am not interested in what is in the manual. Test it. Tell me if this device is noisy ... do something!
It’s not noisy.
