One subtle thing I like about the game is the fact that, because ghosts and skeletons and such exist, it's actually possible that your player character might be your own ghost possessing just your chopped off hand.
There is a spell that summons a coffin. You can then cast the spell to give it life. You can then create a room full of screaming coffins. Game of the Year.
Well I mean, we can only use one weapon at a time, but we cant drink potions that way unless we pull an ethan winters on Our chopped off hand amd with certain weapons expose its STILL cut off.
i remember each new area i was actually kinda spooked from the unknown and atmosphere but as soon as i got to the next area i'd metaphorically BLJ around the map like mario in previous areas
IMO calling it "comfy" is a stretch because the spooky areas go REALLY hard, you can really feel that this is made by a person that's made two horror games previously and no amount of bonking sticks or spells are gonna make you feel SAFE descending into a place like the prison underground. (Having the skeleton dogs show up the SECOND time you go through the prison hub got me real good, thinking I'd be fine since I'd memorized the enemy spawns... and then suddenly not only does a new enemy appear with no warning but it's just in your face IMMEDIATELY). I main the fairy companion spell... not because of its pitiful extra damage, but because having that "btw something is within attack range" alert makes me feel slightly more comfortable delving into the unknown.
WDYM pitful damage? I've destroyed bosses using this spell! Here's my pro gamer strat (patent pending): 1. Spam as many fairies as you can have out at one time (I think it's 3) 2. Run around the arena screaming like a little girl to avoid the boss. 2b. If any of the fairies run out, re-cast the spell. 3. Profit Works beautifully on Cirall, Abyssal Demons, and whatever the thing under the castle bridge was.
Yeahhhh calling it "comfy" is honestly a biiiiitttt of a stretch because some of these areas are fucking TERRIFYING. They're a bit easier to handle on your second run through but GOD some areas like the Forsaken Tomb on my first run were TERRIFYING
I would like to say i really appreciate the fact that you go out of your way to encourage people to and show them how to prep their meals. As someone who really likes cooking, it warms my heart to see someone teaching others how to cook and seemingly enjoying it immensely. I hope you keep making these videos for as long as you want and that you have a great halloween.
Lunacid is genuinely one my favorite games in recent years, it being made by Kira only made that easier to say. Really looking forward to whatever project they work on next.
I've actually been thinking about playing Lunacid for a loooong while now. Being a diehard Fromsoft fan, I've always been fascinated with the King's Field and Shadow Tower series, and seeing streamers play this game for at least a few minutes before I had to get back to doing house things was pretty cool! Thanks for making this vid, Charls! Once I get some cash rolling in, I'm definitely buying this, and Dread Delusion.
Its wonderful fun, Ive played to hell and back over its dev period, and recently a few good endings finally came in and some hidden REALLY fun fights! Kira/Akira has a nack for giving some trippy experiences. And if ya dont mind browsing itchio he has his own itch with some fun smaler experiences to hold ya over.
Charlatan, you have one of the most absolutely commendable channels on this platform. Besides Grimbeard and ThorHighHeels I can't think of any other review/essay channel that brings the level of consistency, positivity, and authenticity that you do
when people say gaming is dying they mean legacy AAA blockbusters as we know them, that aspect of the industry is slowly going extinct. gaming in of itself can't really die as long as people can just download a text editor and print hello world in a command shell.
really been enjoying dread delusion so far, looking forward to trying this out afterwards. I was really impressed with the different ways to play dread delusion.

Im not going to spoil it, but find the room in the castle. Probably the strongest feels ive ever gotten in a game, ever. Don't look it up, it's not the same.
THANK YOU!!!!! this game has been criminally undercovered. This should be the one game that all the souls nerds check out when they cover Kings Field and it's clones but it never gets covered!!!
My only real complaint about Lunacid is that there were slightly too many labyrinthine levels for my taste, the way I progressed through the game on my first playthrough meant I ended up tackling most of them in a row. I also happened to play the game during a new moon on my first playthrough and didn't get to use the lunacy mechanic at all, which might be something that could be tweaked a little so that the mechanic is always somewhat relevant but I thought it was really funny when my next playthrough had a moon on the HUD that wasn't there before.
My build was 80 STR, 10 DEF, 118 SPD, 4 DEX, 4 INT, 8 RES (knight). Idk, while you were playing King's Field, I was playing Quake. The game felt way too easy, but it might be because I haven't touched the difficulty slider at all. From what I heard, it doesn't really make the game harder though, just slower.
Okay, I KNEW I wasn't crazy. I recognized a bunch of talking points and bits, but with totally different clips from this review and I couldn't figure out HOW could've I seen a video with so many similar parts until it HIT me... I only JUST recently watched one of your 2 years old compilation indieween vids and THAT one had Lunacid in it as well. 😂 The recipe looks great so I'll give that one a try at some point. Much obliged as always! 👌
Char I know that it was unintended to run Halloween in July through from July to the start of Indieween, but I have been HERE FOR IT Please run long every year buddy, I want my 4+ months of halloweeb games
Regarding the cooking segment, Mr. Wonder. What if you're one of those people who taste soap when they eat cilantro? Can we omit the cilantro entirely?
Yeaaaah, Lunacid is such a great game an amazing vibe, played it whole at the beginning of the year. (Had to use a guide for de DDR ending), one of the greatest games played this year, getting to understand the map, spell synergies. Or just using the same spell over and over because some are broken af.
Lunacid was fun, the extra enemies on full moon has an extremely mean debuff. :) - I didn't know there was an escape ending unless it got added since I last played, thought I was checking the patch notes enough.
Something really nice to keep in mind, if you reach certain Levels in your Int Stat, you start to regen your Mana Passively without having to use up MP Potions, which makes a pure caster build a lot more viable. You can eventually get it to the point where you cannot run out of Magic.
everything charles said is 100% true, Lunacid has been my goto fun dungeon crawler since I nabbed it 2 years ago roughly, no regrets ever and hundreds of hours of fun and dozens of saves.
It's a personal policy of mine to only use stuff I know is royalty free: just because a composer for a game's music isn't claiming it now doesn't mean that they never will. I learned that lesson the hard way with Pathologic 2.
Charl, did you play Voices of the Void already? Sounds like its right up your alley. Was almost surprised when it wasnt on this channel already. Its still Alpha but free and theres lots to see.
You put as much salt in one meal as I put in 2 months. I'm always baffeled that USA citzens say "a little salt" or "just a bit of sugar" and proceeds do put 200g of salt or sugar into ONE MEAL.
This video and the message behind it hits harder after watching videogamedunkey's Black Ops 6 video, which is just him having to install, reinstall, reboot, relaunch, and retry updates without ever actually playing the game due to how unoptimized and poor CoD's optimization is. Great content as per usual. Shame I already owned all these games prior to this month haha. Keep it up!
I wouldn't call it an immersive sim, especially by Charles standards. There's very few times where the game allows you to approach a situation however you want, instead the game shoves your nose in the dirt until you figure out how the game wants you to handle situations. And it does NOT encourage player freedom.
Every review I see points that you lost a hand... But I think we lost a body in this game. The cutscene shows the right hand being cut, and by default you play as a right hand. No arms, no armor to equip, just one weapon and rings, nobody refers to you as a "human". We are just a hand carrying an inventory with telekinesis or some other misterious way
7:10 shit, that happened to me too. I think I never played the game again after that sadly. The section to reach it was so goddamn long I lost the will to redo it.
You needed a game to figure that out, as someone who does not enjoy dark souls the influences i saw in the video made me realize its worse than i thought, Dodged a bulet.
@terribleivan1475 Well, the things I like are: - You cast spells by drawing runes with your mouse. - The world is very interactive. Anything can be opened or circumvented in some way, and oh boy, you can even physically cook. - It has THE BEST catacomb descent in every game ever. Regarding the cooking segment, Mr. Wonder. What if you're one of those people who taste soap when they eat cilantro? Can we omit the cilantro entirely?
Oh yeah just sub it for Italian parsley or maybe some chopped spinach so that you still get your greens.
Thanks. And thank you for the recipes and the videos. I hope you and your chunky kitty stay safe and warm as temperatures drop.
the catacombs and the tunnels are bar none one of the scariest parts of a game in that year
I knew I liked this game the second I booted it up and saw the skeleton character portrait. That day, Wretch the undead creature was born...
I love that this game has a legally distinct Alucard voiced by Robert Belgrade.
