    UV and IR certainly make a difference in phenotypical expression. I have been using both on and off for roughly 5 years now. Also Guru is incorrect. IR makes MORE biomass via leaf surface area. It's not desirable biomass but it still produces more biomass. Your only supposed to use them the last 2-3 weeks of flowering during the last 2 hours of the light cycle before lights off, IF your trying to mimic nature. I have used them both for the whole grow, UV the whole grow, IR the whole grow, the last month, the last 2 weeks and so on. Using both the whole flowering period makes your plants express more like a tropical environment. Makes your buds more greasy too. Not the best idea for hash washers.

    • @terrybeechlarry798
      @terrybeechlarry798 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, would you reckon to use IR in veg then & the UV like you said at end of your last script then buddy 🤔

      How did you find results with IR ? Do you have some science to back this up ? The IR I mean, I know about the UV . " Your only supposed to use them the last 2-3 weeks of flowering during the last 2 hours of the light cycle before lights off, IF your trying to mimic nature" how are you mimicing nature by adding IR two hours prior to night ? This doesn't happen in nature, you don't get more IR at the end of the day in nature..

      If you use it throughout veg, your plant will become lanky and tall with HORRIBLE internodal spacing. @@terrybeechlarry798

      I don't know for sure, but certain areas of earth have different levels of UV, and I think max UV is typically mid day ish because as the angle changes it has to pass through more atmosphere with straight above being the most UV penetration and sunset and sunrise being the least, that's my understanding anyway which is why people in northern latitudes especially in winter have more trouble getting sufficient vitiman D from sunlight could be way off though
      If true, if I was trying to mimic nature i guess I might consider where my plant originates or which part of the earth i'd like to attempt to recreate and this would also potentially change the time of light cycle i'd want to introduce UV

    • @michael2305
      @michael2305 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the IR diodes are basically to give off a little bit of heat and let the plants transpire more. So yeah a more tropical environment.
      I don't know what u mean with greasy tho. There's noting greasy about the buds once they are dried an cured properly.

    Been using Migro UVA/B fixture for 2/3 runs ..... a definite improvement in taste expression ... love it. only an 18w unit in my tent ..... highly recommended! last 3/4 weeks of flowering 2 hours 'mid' light cycle.

    • @FunnyBonesGaming
      @FunnyBonesGaming 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Your technically supposed to use the last 2 hours before lights off to mimic nature. That's what DR Bugbee says anyways. I just turn on my UV and IR on the last 15-17 days of flower and let it ride. That off and on shit is for the birds lol

      @@FunnyBonesGaming Growing for 22 years but don't know that UV is highest at noon and not at the end of the light cycle. That's why I do not listen to any so-called experienced growers because their experience is just anecdotal and they're not used to reading papers and thinking scientifically. "Simply stupid" if I may paraphrase Skoda Auto's slogan.

    Idk how most uv works but the light manufacture recommends that i switch their uv diodes on for something like 4 *minutes* a day in flower, the problem is sometimes i forget to turn it off for a couple days, and you can see it takes a few days after that for the plants to bounce back and grow quickly again, however they come back with more stink and grease, I put my plants back in veg a few weeks before harvest so that helps my plants finish bulking while under the stress of uv, they are still nice and green come harvest as the lowers of the buds are already revegging. I think people worrry that switching the lights to veg at the end of flower would make the plants stop producing cannabinoids, or change their terpene profile, but i notice it only makes them more stinky, potent and massiv. Phenos that didnt smell before start smelling, especially after the reveg when you run the plant a second time, like it has reached full genetic maturity. Be careful though, some strains reveg really quickly, like within a few days, in these cases this stratedgy wont work well or will need much better timing so I wouldnt recommend this for landrace plants on the first run but it will usually work with most of the popular polyhybrids about at the moment.
    Credit goes to Rasta Jeff at "grow from your heart podcast" for teaching this method.

    I use the same pot holders with drains on my grow which is elevated and I have a drain system underneath and used robust silicone hose that allows for movement of the pots still but with a drain. they are AWESOME. I also found out that adding truck bed liner to them is smart - the salts in feed will eventually compromise the paint and cause rusting. The pumice or some soil gets between the pot and plant and just the pot shrinking and swelling from wetting and drying will wear out the paint. Truck Bed liner just makes it more awesome. I have a new AC Infinity 4x8 raised up 2 feet off the floor. I am using the brand new 8-Port controller that arrived 2 days ago. My 15L AC Infinity UIS humidifier is pre-ordered and already shipped. Got Acapulco Gold, Green Crack, Dee-Lite and OG Kush going. Photonek and Phantom lights with the AC Infinity 4x16 augmented lights and 4x11 UV augmented lights.

    I've been running the uv and far red infrared I believe there the same the light figures from Mars hydro they clip right on the Existing grow light in between the led bars. I'm only on my 4th indoor grow I've been using it since the second grow I also gre outdoors over the summer for the first time and I have to say compared to the first grow my last 3 harvests the plants were just as if not more than my outdoor yeld also the thc content has to be hire because compared to my first indoor grow with out the uv and ir I definitely noticed the difference in the high and amount of terps. Also like I said when compared to the outdoor they were definitely on pint if not more like I said. In my opinion I won't be ever growing without them.

    Here's the picture for the 24 hr light debate. Light on vascular system is in uptake mode full on can't reverse flow.. 24 hr the leafs build and build plant energy and they will need more storage. So they need to absorb prior building blocks to do so or they don't have a choice but will gladly trade overstocks for smaller more powerful energy cells. Microorganism centipede.. Night cycle that building finally can stop and the massive need for space to store the energy can bleed out to the roots as the vascular system isn't restricting the flow. And now the leafs absorb any shape that is the right size. Once they get clogged it reverses vascular flow to take care of the business. These are my own words and the plant might have made me do it to confuse us all idk.

    I had to travel several times this last year for 10 days at a time. What I found that worked best was a blended live top feeding dry food blended into the soil then just feed then on a schedule with clean water. I had amazing results. The one thing that is critical is make sure all controllers are battery backed up. Power dips and brownouts in Texas would kill my devices so I had to use a UPS.

      In a studio they found out that the plant has two ways to protect itself from UVB. She can adapt her leaves so that they protect themselves from UVB (only if contact with UVB has already occurred in the vegetative state). Or it produces certain cannabinoids (THVC) to protect the leaves. It therefore plays an important role that she deals with it at the end of flowering. Because if the leaves addapt which it always does in Nature there will be no difference compared to indoor with no UVB.
      In addition, greenhouses can also benefit from UVB lamps because the glass absorbs UVB.

    Has anyone else notice that addition of uv light adds color to plants?

    • @Hipsters_N_Hippies
      @Hipsters_N_Hippies 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I have seen it. Just dont push too much. A little bit seems to add some color to some cultivars. However trying to add too much can burn. and when we are seeing this color change, we are most likely already walking the fine line between stress and burn as it is.

      I never noticed that. Been using for years too. I think its more the strains your working with.

      @@johnboykin3128I believe the higher Kelvin Temperature Diodes 5K/6K, which have more Blue light, and less Red, also have some UV output, just below 400nm. This could help with Fall colors. I think just having more Blue light, during the last weeks of flowering, can also promote this, as well as extra Trichomes..?!
      Some grow lights have this option(and many other options), and some people used to use MH's for the last 2-3 wks, after using HPS for most of flowering. There are definite advantages for "Cool" colors.
      If I wasn't so "foggy headed", right now, I'd have a clearer answer, or a specific product to point to..🤔👍💯✌️

    Have none of the hosts read about LED lights??? They do produce IR light... just look at the chart that comes with your light that shows how much wavelength you get. It would be nice if these guys learned about stuff before talking.

    you don’t use uvc for growing 😂, come on how many times does hlg and google gotta tell ya uva and ir are in led’s but if you want uvb it’s a fluorescent . hlg recommends to use their uva once you see buds forming aka 2nd weekish of bloom running it full bloom on/off vs uvb is last 2-3 weeks before Chop at .5hr-2hrs
