    AIR CONDITIONING IS A MUST!!!! One of the few luxuries we have and use as a treat; I can't imagine NOT having AC in Florida in summer!!
    Love you guys!

      Yes the humidity is just terrible. We can live without a lot. But Chris will not live without AC. 😉

    With your high generator use, i would recommend an oil bypass filter like Frantz. Keep your oil n lower operational cost. Also i would incorporate lithium ion battery storage and an inverter. I am gonna guess your a/c is only using 30% of the generators load potential. 70% of its produced power is not even used. That equates to 70% of your fuel cost as un-necessary. Store that power, reduce generator use, fuel, and maintenance costs while keeping the a/c all night. A later option is to upgrade with solar.

    Obtain a small ac for the sleeping area, then a Honda eu22 they sip gas, lithium small 400 amp hours and Victon with power assist will give extra if needed, did 13 years in the high humidity and it was a fraction of the cost of our 8kva diesel, we went thru one diesel overhaul so many oil changes expensive service and generator repair costs, compared to two Hondas, which lasted about two years , added an extra large gas tank to Honda sometimes ran for two weeks befor a stop only for oil then on again.

    You guys should look into adding a bunch of solar and lithium. I know its really expensive, but worth it in the end. I bumped my rv up to 2000 watts of solar and 1000 amp hours of lithiums. I put a soft start on my AC and now i run my AC off a 3k pure sine inverter. Honestly, I rarely run my onan anymore. Hopefully, i will be making an offer on a 47 defever POC in a couple weeks. If i buy the boat, I will be doing the same thing to it. Once you start cruising the Caribbean, there will be less and less marinas to get in. Set yourself up for off grind now and your cruising will be much more fun. It might take you awhile to buy all the stuff so start buying it a piece at a time now. Look for great deals. It took me almost 2 years buying the solar panels, victron charge controllers, and battleborn batteries. Good luck.

    • @WanderingKnapps

      So true. We have thought about solar many many times. But our situation is different because we see ourselves upgrading to a catamaran once we get to the Caribbean. So we just don't want to invest that much... but you always stay longer than you think... lots to consider.

      @@WanderingKnapps Most people i know take most of their set up with them when they upgrade. Thats what i will be doing. I will most likely be upgrading to a sailing cat in 4 or 5 years when my son is out of college and trying my hand at circumnavigation. You can leave all the panels and the charge controllers as they are not the major cost in this project. Take the lithium with you.

    Ah, my heros! I love it when folks talk numbers! I currently live in SF w/flat rate power and pay $300 a month! But that isn't common for sure and it took years to find the place. Having been a live aboard boater for 10 years and about to do it again, I know what you are saying about Marina versus Anchoring... But I think you might have lost a few newbies on this. I might have put up numbers that people could visualize to see a bottom-line on anchoring versus marina life and which of the two are more expensive, then discuss the differences such as dingy-ing in versus being at dock. Aside from that nice presentation

  • @mikenagy938
    @mikenagy938 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Maybe on the east coast it is possible to live at the marina, but here on the west coast it is very hard. They are starting to curtail the amount of liveaboards to a certain percent. And anchoring out is not an option either.

    We are currently in the process of selling our home in Naples to live on a boat as well! Your videos have been very interesting and inspiring. We are currently shopping for good marinas on the Gulf and Keys. I found Plantation Yacht Harbor (which I believe you were at for a while), but you mentioned another where they charge $16/ft and a flat rate for water/power. Where is that? Can you give me some others that you enjoyed? We have two girls (9 & 7) that we homeschool as well, so we are looking for marinas with a pool and/or beach access. THANK YOU! GOD BLESS! STAY SAFE!

      Your girls would live plantation yacht Harbor. Also try mangrove marina. Both similar in cost and have pools. (Mangroves is included though)
      The marina we found at $16 is renovating and won't be open till next summer.

    wow you could have an extra 10 grand a year tax free - if you could train yourself to sleep without aircon 🙂 its possible people do it. Some ideas I found helped - eating and drinking less carbs (breads, chips, beers etc) seriously lowered my interior heat output. Then jjust letting sleep fatigue build and build until bang , you're out. And maybe get used to sleeping in short bursts or sleeping on deck. last one is very low powered localised, small space air-con - there are solutions for that. good luck

    "Generator running 12 hours/day for AC"....."hurricane season".....killer "crocodile on our boat 20 minutes ago".....you know, the South is great, but if you moved to Washington state you'd have none of those three problems. Most properties in Seattle don't even HAVE air conditioning because it's not really needed. We get some storms on the salt water, but no "hurricane season". I have 20 years of boating experience and there is no comparison between marina and anchor. Slipless boats are also known as homeless boats. People living in a boat is compared to people living living in RVs. We have way too many homeless people living in old RVs and I hope this does not become a trend with boats. Even marina live aboard is frowned upon by other boat owners.
