    Oh my goodness!!! That is soo fascinating!!!! How often do you have to ensynimate a female? And how do you know when you need to do that?

      A virgin queen only has to be inseminated ones in her life. A young queen after being born goes into heat when she is about 5 days old, for insemination she needs to be at least 7 days old. When the queen is able to mate as they would in nature she mostly flies out one time on her mating flight and she will mate with on average 10 to 12 drones. That gives her enough semen to produce eggs for the rest of her life and that is what we try to replicate when doing artificial insemination. A queen stores the semen in a special organ called the spermatheca and she can keep the semen good for at least a couple of years. When her semen stores run low, the bees will notice that and they will initiate making a new queen before she runs out. The max lifespan of a queen is 5 years, but the bees will replace her mostly after 2 to 3 years because her spermatheca starts to run out of semen.

    I am an anesthesia provider but i keep bees on the side. I'm interested in raising pure bees this way. Any recommended resources where i can learn to perform this myself?

      Susan Cobey on youtube has some pretty good videos about artificial insemination.
      I too am planning to post some videos about it in the coming time. Thanks for your comment and happy buzzing 🐝🐝

    How many days does it take for a queen bee to start laying eggs after artificial insemination

    • @aBeekeepersLife
      @aBeekeepersLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preferably within a few days to a week. Sometimes they take longer, those are not for sale, mostly they will be replaced by the bees later on in the season or at the start of the next season.
      This doesn't happen a lot btw, artificial insemination has a succes rate of well above 90% 😊
