Caring for Aging Parents as a Black Midlifer I The Melanated Midlife Podcast I Episode 6

  • Host: Dr. Akilah Willery
    Guest: Chaundy Satterwhite
Chaundy’s story is all too common as many other midlifers find themselves entering their sandwich era, where they are essentially “sandwiched” in between caregiving for their aging parents and still raising their own children. This episode will make you think about all the things you don’t know you need to know when it comes to caring for mama or daddy, when they can no longer take care of themselves.

Being a caregiver is not easy as a child. You must become a parent and still respect your parent and deal with new personality. You can get burnout

It is such a unique and delicate dichotomy. You are so on point.

I'm glad this sister is doing this service because it's needed. I was a health advocate and care giver to my parents until their deaths but had I not been employed in the healthcare field I'm sure I would have needed this type of help. This is a great show of substance. Love the show

An algorithm must be real. Because I literally got my mother out of rehab from a fall just yesterday. I've never looked on TH-cam for anything about this, but this happened to just pop-up in my feed and to God be the glory for this popping up. I needed to see this and I SO appreciate the content. I just subscribed.

Depending on the state of residency you may want to consider a Trust versus a Will. In Georgia, a Will filed with their County Probate Court is fine as long as all assets are in Georgia. In Texas, if you have all assets in Texas or other states, then you need to have a Trust, Power of Attorney, and Advance Health Care Directive.

Thank you so much for this. I just moved back to my home state after 28 years to move my mom in with me. The new adventure begins in three days and I’m so nervous about what the balancing act will look like when it comes to giving her a good life and maintaining my professional responsibilities.
