Dido, your the best chicken mom Cheryl. Sorry for your experience with the prolapse but the info you told is very helpful. What a sweet girl you have. Our special Edna is nice like that too but we've never held her for that long.

Thanks Suzy. I sure learned a lot through that prolapse incident. I love the name Edna! What kind of chicken is she?

You TWO are adorable!!!! I would love to hold my hens (only have 2 😊🐓🐓). I was given my hens and they were 2 years old, but they do follow me around when I come outside. ❤️ I love your sweet videos 🤩 and HELLO Rooster Daddy 😊

Hi Gloria. If your girls squat when you come near thats the perfect time to pick them up and carry them around. That's how I catch mine.

    HI Cheryl,
I discovered your channel several days ago and I've been binge watching every video. My husband started building my coop four months ago, and I have my first chicks ever arriving August 24 from Meyer Hatchery. We are deep in the woods in Washington state, so we've got to be super predator proof.
I just love how you tell the story of your girls and I'm thankful you've documented it for my own learning. This is a real treasure to me. I too am an empty-nester and a follower of Christ. (I would definitely be interested in Devotions From the Coop.)
I hope you can make a video on how you keep your coop so spotless. I was going to use the deep litter method, but after seeing your videos I might change my mind. Can you share your philosophy on that? Also, I hope Opal gets more air time, because my chick order is all orpingtons- 3 buffs, 3, lavenders, and 2 blue/black/splash. I really just
can't wait for their arrival. I have already named them! (all names from women in Shakespeare.) Wish we could chat over a cup of coffee!
Thank you for blessing me with your words of wisdom!
    Joanne

I can’t get over how she lets you hold her like that! I am a first time chicken mom to 5, 14 week old chickens. I was so careful to handle them daily so they’d be used to me. Well...they act like they’re terrified of me. It makes me sad. The gnats are bad now so I need to spray them and it’s just about impossible! Any tips?

Awe! I'm so glad you have got some chickens! I always say the are such good therapy. Don't be discouraged. Youy babies aren't old enough to squat yet. Once they get close to laying they will begin to squat. It reminds me of a suma wrestler. Thren you can pick them up and carry them around. At first turn their bidy so their head is poking out under your arm so they are looking at where they have been. I walk around the yard with like that...petting and talking. As for gnats try waiting til they are up on the roost board ready to sleep. You can easily pick one up take them out spray and return to roost. Make sure there is plenty of breeze going thru the coop that night...don't want them to breathe that. Good luck@
