  • This video is an updated look at my current Ancestry DNA ethnicity update for 2020.
    I discuss the new additions to my estimate and try to reason how and why. My African blood still reigns supreme though.
    Ancestry state that they have more populations added and the science is better.
    I am still researching my family tree any tips welcomed and any tips on working out how my connections connect. Some paper trails are not that easy to find.

    My sis, congratulations on your overwhelming African heritage.... that is rare and no doubt your ancestors will be looking down on you proudly. I would like to say however that the overriding tribe that your DNA results suggest is the Yoruba tribe. I say this because of where your highest percentages are from are Nigeria, Benin and togo. These three modern day countries were once the all part of Yoruba land..... that was until colonisation separated them. Yorubas people in their numbers still exist in these countries. I am a Yoruba man and about two years ago I did my ancestry DNA test. My results came back as being 72% Nigerian and 28% from Benin and Togo. When I told my father about my results (who is in his early nineties), he was surprised and attributed my results to the inter tribal wars that took place over the centuries.
    Also, about a month ago, I watched a video of another British Jamaican discovering her DNA heritage. She had similar results to yours i.e. Mostly Nigerian, Benin and Togo. In one of her replies to a post by "Courtney Davis", she confirms that she has discovered that she has Yoruba heritage.

    My final clue is your appearance..... You look Yoruba.
    Peace My Kween.

    I really think that search engines like Wiki etc need to update their research about the ancestry of Jamaicans because they suggest that Jamaicans most likely come from Ghana however most of the DNA results from Ancestry DNA test demonstrate that more Jamaicans have Nigerian roots.

      Hi. Thanks for watching my video. Yes it does need updating as Jamaican heritage is across West Africa with pockets of other African nations. Ancestry have done a recent update and now my results have Ghana as the highest followed by Nigeria Benin Togo. However the percentages are quite close. I will do an update video soon. Ancestry now has 2 distinct regions for Nigeria; Nigeria and Nigeria East Central. My results are just Nigeria region and not the Nigeria East Central. Thank you for the info you shared as well. Much appreciated

      @@SoFrolushes: I'm Yoruba and having watched your video predicted that there is a strong likelihood that you have dominate Yoruba Heritage. Long story short, I did a DNA test about two years ago and to my surprise it came back 72% Nigerian and 28% Benin and Togo. Yoruba people to this day populate these three countries and were only separated by the borders drawn as a result of colonialism. I've just seen this DNA result of another Jamaican, which in many ways are similar to yours and mine and I thought that I'd share it with you.

    I wouldn't read too much into the low percentages because they are estimated 0-whatever percentage. Most likely is English DNA since they will share a lot of DNA with other European groups...

      @honeyjazz4147 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't put too much into ancestrydna percentages period, low or high, because ancestrydna has a tendency to exaggerate, 23andme is more accurate, but low percentages can be very accurate, ancestrydna gives me low percentage Native American which I know is definitely there, it's showing higher percentages on other tests. Ancestrydna tells you itself don't put too much into percentages no matter the amount, percentages are the least accurate of all of the results. My Nigerian on ancestrydna went from 3% to a whopping 62% back down to 49%, if you know for sure you have certain ancestry percentages don't mean much.

      I am working on my paper trail too. I see these as helpful in research as with dna we only get 50% from each parents so some things may not show up as are recessive etc.

    • @honeyjazz4147
      @honeyjazz4147 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SoFrolushes You don't always receive 50% from each parent you can receive as low as 25% with the remainder from the other parent. DNA is very random and unpredictable.

    • @hahahehe8915
      @hahahehe8915 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@honeyjazz4147pretty sure she meant 50% of your dna comes from one parent and the other 50% from the other. Also, you can get less than 25% of one of your parents dna. Like if they have 30% of one place you could inherit it all or you could inherit none (you probably would habit as you said dna is random and unpredictable).
