I'm on the ORYX website and they offer a Howa 1500 LA and a Howa 1500 SA. Brownells doesn't have any distinction between the 24" and 20" on their site. I'm guessing the 24" is LA and the 20" is SA? Any tips on clarification, this build is a great idea.

The Howas are the most reliable and accurate actions you can buy for sub $500. My 223 immediately shot 3x groups sub moa at 100 from day one. Its only weakness is a slight tendency to over heat after a couple of dozen rounds. Slowing down will show best accuracy

In a world of 6. Something and 7 (aka anti 6 something) or 300 win or bigger. I love the ole 30-06 with a good bullet and charge. For the price. And the benefit you get over 30-06 granted both of these ranges are absurdly unrealistic but at 2500 the 308 sounds like a coin being thrown at a plate. At 3000 the -06 slapped tf out of that plate like it was personal. Point being not range capability. But the force applied. It’s a tank. It’s the reason when in doubt a 30-06 will kill it. It’s not 300 win But it doesn’t have to be. It just freaking works. Which is why it’s still around and won’t die. Because they hype of new rounds comes and goes. But 30- just lives on. Because it just works. Been around too long to be trendy.

One of my own favorite HOWA 1500 barrel action builds ... 308 and an Arken Optics EP5 5-25X56. It's difficult but not impossible to find 'select' heavy barrel actions for Howa calibers at Brownells. One consideration is Howa USA lack of customer service, although they do offer lifetime warranty! Love everything about this Howa build and it's become a popular choice for budget precision builders who want to enter ELR shooting. This Howa 1500 can reach out the mile some come to expect.

I've got a howa 1500 .223 SS, its one of the most common bolt action .223 rifles in my country (aus), and for good reason. They sell for pretty much the same price as ruger american rifles ($800-1000) which leaves enough cash left to get an okay or decent scope for under 1500 bucks total. Given that they pretty much never break, are reliable as hell, simple and shoot straight, they're extremely popular. In the states those prices probably don't sound too good but thats just coz our dollar is worth less and shooting sports is generally more expensive here.

The can on mine isnt like this one (legal)😂 , i only have 500 yards to shoot, never shot that kind of distance before, and itll bang a 10" piece of steel every single time. Probably would mean nothing to 99% of people reading this, but, for me, it hooked me in, i want to learn more and try to increase the distance and improve my abilities. In case anyone is looking to go this route, I bought the Barrel, Trigger and Action from brownells, used a 10% off code - BOLT10 for $438.40 shipped
and for the MDT XRS chassis (MDT104690), rail (TMPSM252150) and mags (MGMPI579BLK) I ordered from Tactical Surplus USA, was 568.29 shipped.
This was the best deal I could find as od 03/2024 the Oryx was slightly cheaper if you prefer that chassis.

Awesome review and like you said "Genuine" as at least when you missed the target, you were honest with your reasoning which will help others with there choices / decisions making. Due to this review out of all the others I have watched, I decided to "Subscribe" to your blog 👍

If yall are looking for a budget scope that's still really nice. Vortex makes some super solid stuff. I love em. I'll run them across the board. And the lifetime warranty is legit af and worth it alone for me.

The three builds I see locally are as follows.
Action :- howa short action, tikka T3x, lithgow la102.
Stock/ chassis :- mdt lss xl gen2 or oryx, Boyd’s thumbhole or pro varmint or varmint thumbhole.
Scopes:- vortex strike eagle (mostly comps) Athlon Midas tac ( for a mix of comp and hunting) leupold vx3 HD (mostly hunting) usually in 4-16 or 6-25 ranges.
    Rings a 20moa rail.
That I the build I see every body with…
If anyone has something different it’s a novelty and usually for a very specific reason.

Just for interest of anyone looking at this, as far as im aware the oryx will work with any short action. Mini is a slightly different chassis. In Australia we can get the entire thing in stainless varmint 24" or 22" for $890 or $430 for just the chassis which when you consider the barreled action by itself is $890 we are far better off buying the whole thing. Lovely low budget setup though and better than the ESS when running large optics off a zero MOA since the ESS on full enclosure can obstruct the scope.

I wound up going out and buying this rifle in the 308 version and for a budget rifle this is pretty dang amazing I must say I put probably over 700 rounds through it, then threw a Vortex scope on it changed out a couple things like the trigger or change that out changed out the bolt action threw on an MDT muzzle brake which was really phenomenal and through 500 Vortex scope on it so far this thing is banging out bullets and for me I've been buying random different packs of 20 online for $14 a piece I would say and I've been hitting my target every single time with it whatsoever 100% I might just buy another one of these

Love this. This is above average video. Thank you from an 80 year old 3 combat tour Vietnam veteran.
I’m a detail whore though. It would have been good to include your MOA/MIL holds and how it compares to your ballistic application holds and kestrel wind data through the ballistic application. I know it’s a lot of work but I think the more detailed the video the more likes others are getting. Those types are getting a bigger name with sponsors.

🇦🇺😎👍Hey mate I’ve got one for my M18 Mauser ( I’ve been told it’s the only one ) ( you can’t buy them down here for M18s) . It feels good to use. Adds a little weight but it’s better than the M18 stock. As fo accuracy I guess I’ll have to do more shooting to find out but overall I’m happy…Good video 🏁….$539 down here. I picked mine up for $500 au.

got to love those spikey bastards in your shoes, reminds me of summer camp at camp Rio Vista in '75 - the spider bites, Chigers and the random skunk ape stealing your pack and tossing it 30 feet into the trees, yea real Texas fun, BTW I'm from San Antonio, live in Carmel CA. and I miss the swamp of SE Texas.

You know I've watched a lot of Arken EP5 videos. This is not one but it has an Arken. They all shoot 100 to 300 yards. Thanks so much for distance out to 1000. The rifle build looks nice as well. Doable for a second rifle that you might want in another caliber to add to your gun safe. And a real shooter as well. Thanks!

I have one of those Howa 1500s, but in 223 Remington mini action. I bought it in a Excel lite chassis, which is a reinforced polymer. 3-15x44 vx-5hd, Griffin Armament Explorr gen 2, and the thing is around 8.5lbs. I got some hand loads that I wanna take out and reach to 750yds. I think I can do it...
