Heard this amplifier at Executive Stereo in Toronto which was hooked up to a pair of joseph towers. It was incredible. Wasn't even playing a bass heavy track but the sound coming thru was deep. It's a killer integrated amp.
I recently purchased a simaudio moon 240i on the used market. There entry level. It does have a dac, phono stage. It has changed my listening experience. Running a pair of Dali Rubicon 2 bookshelf with a martinlogan sub. They paired up well. Also ran wharfedale Lintons. A long process to get to this point. I appreciate your channel as well as your passion for this Hobbie. Check out some Dali speakers an amazing product.
Ya never know what tidbits of knowledge can be included in a product ‘overview’. Thanks for Damping Factor. You’re making me appreciate those stats even more! Also, EQ and tone controls can be a gem in certain listening moments. Us silly/sick fans of live Grateful Dead recordings know that sometimes they sound great and other times not so much. Dialing the sound in can make a mediocre recording make me get up and dance. Keep on keeping on, Brother Bob!
I think you’re right on the money, Bob. A lot of doe rae mi for very few features. A purists amp. I think a phono input and tone controls are a requirement for me personally.
I like my amps to amp and do nothing else. I prefer to be able to change and upgrade other components like phono stages and DACs and headphone amps. I like lots of features on budget gear, but not on main system stuff. I think a lot of 'philes feel similarly. As to tone controls. A lot of source components these days have parametric equalisation, as does Roon. I don't mind having tone controls, but don't feel they are necessary.
I agree with you on the screen and the tone controls and when you mention “moon unit”, that gave me flashbacks to listening to Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention back in the day.. I really miss Frank, he was so talented. 😢
Well, since you dipped your toe into the caliber of equipment, you need to test drive something from Accuphase or Luxman..From what I can see on the Just Audio videos, both those brands have tone controls and headphone Jack's. And meters, lol. Awesome video.
You know ever since you or your Pal. Lenny mentioned it something that is Nuts is these Monster prices on Amps and integrated amps that don't have Tone Controls! Almost like Love it or spend more on a Pre amp! Then in specs one thing missing in many is the Channel Separation, because if thats not good? Well then the Soundstage will be affected, the best ones are built almost to a Dual Mono unit like the Ole Harmon Kardon Dual Power Receivers. Even like the Moon! Keep up the Great Work!
$11k for an amplifier?! Yeah, naw. I love the look and it probably sounds incredible but at that price it's way up in that rarified air level that I can only aspire to. Love the video Bob, thanks again for a very cool "overview". ....first? lol
I've been optimising my main system since retirement. I think I have gotten there, and my previous speakers and main amp lasted nearly 20 years, so I expect the new stuff to last a long time. But... that itch for change is still there, so I scratch it by buying cheap chifi gear for use in a smaller system, and buying vintage gear I can keep for a while and sell on when I get bored with it, usually for what I paid or more. Works for me.
McIntosh’s MQ-112 Environmental Equalizer, which was JUST introduced, IS THE premier companion for this FOREVER i n t e g r a t e d Canadian Masterpiece! Paired with fellow Canadian Paradigm’s Founder-Series 80F, with Mac’s MR-89 FM Tuner, and a Luxman D-07x CD unit, and I know I’d never leave home!!! Thanx for posting.
You feed my FOMO syndrome and keep my paranoia emptying my wallet, but that is the nature of our beast of a hobby. 😂 Thank you as always for your time and efforts to share this product with us, but you lost me at $11000.00 ! Take care, Sir.
Most amp brands are afraid to post their damping factor. Or should be. I've seen some class D amps spec out as low as 100. They should be ashamed 😅 If you listen to many amplifiers, you'll start to correlate the "tight clean bass" with a high damping factor. If it's rated below 300, it better be cheap.
I said ever so slightly... on the cusp. Just a recommendation... k prefer that kind of sound anyway. Others may have different preferences. Sorry, if I confused the issue. We all have to find the sound we like. Thanks for the watch!
Bob, diminishing returns... My audio world went upside down when I bought my first pair of Zu speakers... A Fosi V3 can get me rocking! It is the speakers. ;-)
I don't really understand the 11K price tag. If I had unlimited money I would get a Griffin. What do you get over a 5K or even a 10K priced amp ? Can you get a equivalent Luxman or a Accuphase for 11K? Does it least have a RF remote so you don't have to point it at the unit ? There has to be some amazing stand out features for the price. What is the network connection for ?
JMO but this looks like an excellent example for purity and austerity for its own sake. The entertainment has long since been lost in the de-designing.
Don't be too humble. They're skipping features that people want. No pre-out. No phono-amp, No tone-controls, No DAC, No bluetooth, No room-correction, etc. Sometimes minimalism is just laziness. They must be hunting for multi-millionaires who don't care. There are only so many of those folks.

19K in Australia. Cool looking and I bet it sounds good. Way out of my price range.Great video Bob.

Thanks for pointing this out, jimfarrell. Not my hobby due to the barrier to entry, but 100% respect for the principles.

True, I have a Luxman and play with bass depending tracks
I have the Moon 230 HAD headphones amplifier. It’s so good, I even used it as a preamplifier in my system with good results.
They make great stuff... but there has to be a reason they are not more of a name (at least in the USA)
I just listened to this amplifier with the dynaudio heritage special
Amazing!!
Sounds amazing!

having a phono stage would have been a big plus
For 11grand thats asking for alot

Can the 641 be splitted between pre and amplifier which is necessary for adding an MQ 112?
@@richardsaila8073like, in the case of adding a really nice Dj mixer with the Mc, yes!
Thanks for sharing. Build quality looks very good. Expensive sure. Must be a market.
the one thing I wish it had were two balanced inputs

Good overview! Headphone and phono stage are a prerequisite for me in an integrated. Are you going to review the streamer too?

What do you think about pairing this with dual concentric like Tannoys or Fyne Audio ?
Why, if an amp is on the warmer side of neutral would you pair it with warmer sounding speakers, as you suggested ?
I said ever so slightly... on the cusp. Just a recommendation... k prefer that kind of sound anyway. Others may have different preferences. Sorry, if I confused the issue. We all have to find the sound we like. Thanks for the watch!
Oh man, you should’ve tested it by listening to the new Ghost Funk Orchestra album, it’s called “A Trip to the Moon”

I'm getting some ZU in house soon🤞

A great wise man told me a long time ago that good audio equipment shouldn't cost more than a used car.
JMO but this looks like an excellent example for purity and austerity for its own sake. The entertainment has long since been lost in the de-designing.
Talking about the amp not being in budget while standing in front of a MacIntosh unit, hmm
That makes my Yamaha A-S3200 integrated amp look like a bargain. Okay, not really. 🤨

Team Lift! 😂
It won't take long for this thing to separate a fool from his (or her) money! Too much money for no opinions??? Nah, I don't think so.
ha ha he said moon units
Yes I did!
"again, not a review" - huh? what are ya doing then?
