  • This video is long overdue as the one issue I really have with using the FTX Mauler is the steering circle. Well, that's a thing of the past now.
She has AWS now, and turns on a sixpence.
To do this mod couldn't really be easier. Just order everything from the front axle connected to the steering plus the shorter front axle shafts, and assemble on the rear axle. The basic axles are the same, so it's really straightforward.
For wiring it all in, I watched this video because I share a Flysky GT5 radio with this chap, 2FM RC, so it was very helpful.
    • FSGT5 in the SCX24, ho...
The GT5 allows me to alter how the servos work by simply rotating the dial on the radio - front only, rear only, crabbing or opposing movement for really tight turning.
    Parts list:
FTX 8784 - steering and servo link pieces (metal part only) £4.41
    FTX 8787 - front drive shafts 84mm+75.5mm £5.24
    FTX 8752 - c hubs (carriers) and bushings £3.79
    FTX 8753 - Hub Carriersx2 £3.33
    FTX 8754 - servo plate £3.79
FTX 8773 - link ends for steering links £4.74
    FTX 8789 - metal axle rods £5.69
FTX 8793 - metal ball ends (short) £3.79
    plus bolts
Maybe not the £15 I talk about - my boyish enthusiasm - but even £30 + servo isn't too bad for what I'm hoping is a serious performance upgrade!

This is going to be a fantastic upgrade for the Mauler. Can't wait to see it wiggling its way thru the mountains of Wales. Love the Gentlemanly way you gave a shoutout to 2FM RC instead of hijacking to info like I have seen others do in the similar situation. Also love the you animated your controller. I often wonder what some of tools and creations would say about me. LOL
    Stay safe and stay tiny.

Hey brother! Well, sad to say, the Mauler was spectacularly useless in Wales. Perhaps if I'd gone with my Proline XL Swampers it would have been a bit better as the ebay tyres really are hopeless on rock. But the other problem is the pumpkins. They're huge and any smaller tyres would just make it worse. So it may be time to Ebay the old girl, and let someone else enjoy her. The RWS setup was awesome tho, complete success on that score. A

No prob Neil, but do check re a parts breakdown as I'm a bit of a scatterbrain so might have missed something important. 🤦

@@antrc OK, will do. Where did you buy your parts from?

UK - a combination of modelsport and Makeitbuildit. I did have to wait a month or two for one of the bags - the servo and steering arm I think it was.

Like what you’ve done there and looking forward to seeing the footage from Wales, will be interesting to see how it’s performance compares to the other rigs 👍

Thanks bud, sadly not great enough to make the Mauler in anyway capable on the rocks. Partly tyres and partly massive pumpkins, she was pretty much hopeless. Steering was awesome tho.

"8784, the aluminium servo plate, can't get that wrong," he says, reading the number wrong... 🤭🤪

@@antrc I've rewatched it, and I guess you mean in general? They'll likely have come from my spares boxes - I like to keep a stock of the regular sizes anyway from bolt suppliers on ebay - but FTX do supply small packs of specific sizes for you (at a price....)
      Thanks for watching!
