    If accidentally sweeping the safety is that much of a concern, a 50 degree strong side safety seems silly as well.
    Why not use 90?

  • @RandomNylonGuy

    Not to mention during breaching and activities like climbing, there’s a lot of vertical oscillation which can easily disengage the safety if it’s against something

      Exactly correct. Now convince the rest of these guys😉

    What's cool is the IWI Zion line has an extra channel in the safety so it actually swaps strong side only... I didn't even realize that!

  • @DrSQUIRRELBOY12

    And what happens when you brush up against something or someone? Aren't you just as likely to sweep the safety off then as if the safety was on the side of the gun facing you?

    • @timmarshall3651

      Much less likely than with it against my body. If I’m hands on with subject control rifle is on my back safety away from my body.

      This is fear mongering. This guy is literally making shit up. Don't get an ambi because you can accidentally activate it? Wow. Bravo Defense Mechanisms

    Good teaching point. I have a FCD ambi and in all my training I have never had it accidentally go to fire, but something I will definitely keep an eye on. Thanks

      FCD’s have a milled detent track so it’s quite a bit more positive. Pretty much identical to a Geissele “posi-snap “ (I have both) so it’s far less likely to happen with those.

      I don’t have experience with them. I only use the bolt catch when loading or clearing a malfunction, but I don’t clear malfunctions when time matters, I transition to my pistol. So I don’t need a fancy bolt catch thingy.

      @@Soucka74 I run ADM UIC lowers now. Probably your set up is better. In the UIC lower the close proximity of the controls becomes confusing. I once accidentally dropped a magazine when trying to send the bolt home using right hand index finger.

      The pro's outweigh the con's in my opinion. Get the ambi-safety if you want it. Just be very aware of what is happening with your rifle.

      You can run a radian ambi safety and only use one lever

    • @timmarshall3651

      Radian makes a strong side 40-50deg as does V7/Dark Hour. I’m sure there are more.

  • @Vinnytwotime

    This is why the 4 rules of gun safety exist. As a left handed shooter, this is not an issue.

    It's been my experience that my safety has never been messed with by my gear on both strong side and weak side. A bigger issue I've had is with charging handles. I use the M27 and the extended latch is nice but it tends to get caught an insane amount on my PC. I can only imagine how much worse it would be with ambi charging handles, or ones that flare out more.

  • @airborneivan

    This is just dumb. I've never seen this happen in the Army or as a civilian. Ambi safeties don't increase the odds of this happening either. This just seems like random BS for the sake of producing "content".

  • @kodyrobbins911

    our duty rifles have a milspec safety and get swept in to fire more them then the radian on my personal rifle. the radian has a far better click into safe or fire then a milspec, we have to run a chamber safety on our duty rifles cause of it.

  • @SkepticalTiger

    Is this just an issue with ARs or all rifles with ambi safeties? It seems like there is a trend among newly adopted military rifles to have ambi controls in a similar fashion to an AR15 and either I'm not looking hard enough or it's not widely reported for issues to occur due to ambi safeties. Any thoughts?

    When in the Army, us lefties had to make do with a single sided safety on our M16A1. I wonder if this is still the case.

    I've got an ambi safety, not because it was "cool", and I don't pay attention to Instagram, but because I prefer using a thumb for fire and index for safety. I can see it possibly being an issue if you carry stuff on your chest. For those who don't, I'm not sure why you need to worry about this. I don't carry anything on my chest even in classes, I'm just some dipshit who owns an AR for SHTF and home defense.

    This should be more about 45 degree safety and light triggers. Stiff 90 degrees safety has only been moved 1 time in 20 years

  • @A_Qwynide

    Slung on you is always a risk, because if it's slung on your front strong side safeties can still, in theory, get snagged. The minuscule risk of the safety getting snagged on the front by things in your environment, while your hands are occupied, and then also depress the trigger - does not outweigh the numerous and often utilized benefits of ambidextrous safeties.
    These are firearms. There is always an inherent danger, and while we do what we can to mitigate risk, we can never eliminate everything. I would say the likelihood of not only an accidental safety flip followed by an accidental trigger pull is probably in the same ballpark as the entire safety mechanism simply failing and dropping your weapon to send the firing pin into the primer. You are talking fractions of fractions of fractions of a percent of ND incidents
