The devil waits until you feel safe to hit you up with that unexpected variable. Very profound man. I know exactly what you mean here. When life is hard, you have to change. Hope all is well to you
Woah. Blind Melon was my favorite contemporary band in high school. Joseph Arthur was inspirational during my early 20s. Saw him at Largo in LA. Good stuff.
I remember reading that someone that saw Shannon in the parking lot by the bus after the show in Houston said he was so tweaked out it looked like he was doing a little dance because he couldn't sit still. If you watch the end of the new film you can see him laying in bed in the hotel talking to Lisa and hes still moving around and unable to sit still.
I always figured Shannon was at the end of a long run of active addiction when he died. But that thought was formed back when I was in high school when it had happened. But now I know that’s not usually how it goes. So to hear Shannon had been healthy and built up a little sobriety beforehand doesn’t surprise me. Modest Mouse wrote a song about it “The Good Times Are Killing Me.” Doesn’t matter if I’m at my lowest point or if things are better than ever-addiction will find me if I’m not doing what I need to do to stay on the path.
Right. At the time, I was in my 20s and was still grieving about Kurt. But now, with the clarity of time and many experiences, including my own, it absolutely does make sense to hear this.
Been putting off listening to the details. Too close. And with my loved one- so many times I feared the relapse death. Always will. Didn’t know that was the case with Shannon. It’s almost like that dose waits for its chance to be lethal enough to f**k everyone’s life. Usually when they’re better. Brutal. Some things will never be right, but I think he’d be so proud of his beloveds.
I understand exactly what you mean. My fiance is in recovery, and he's been handling the triggers so well, but there's a little part of me that's always scared. And now, so much time has passed and I've had so many experiences, I can understand things better. But I can also appreciate the music even more now than I did when I was younger. I really feel for them, and his family.
When a person Sobers up from say "cocaine" the body becomes intolerant to it. Shannon's body hit its threshold and sadly his heart had decided it had enough.
I just finished the documentary... was hard, but really well done - using Basinski's Disintegration Loops for soundtrack was harrowing...Tim Hecker, nice touch. Blind Melon was my fav band - never identified with any others as much in my 20s - maybe modest mouse. I’ve often wondered what the rest of the very talented band has been up to. They created a sound that was so mesmerizing and complete- I hope they are finding success themselves. The biggest problem with “scoring”, is that you never really know what you’re getting. Perhaps it wasn’t just the drug (was it cocaine or meth?), but the trash they use to expand the quantity and make an extra buck could be literally anything. Such a risk.
I think the reason shannon was essentially caught off guard and OD'd on his last night is because he had been sober(ish)(?) and hadn't been using to the degree that he once had, and so he jumped back in, so to speak, and enjoyed one of his standard doses but hadn't maintained the tolerance that he once had, thus tipping him over the edge .. . . .
This is what happens to a lot of addicts who try to get clean. Been to many funerals because of there tolerance had reset but they tried doing same amount. Took the USA years to admit they had an huge Opioid problem thank to big pharma.
That’s not how coke works. There is no tolerance or whatever, your thinking about all the heroin overdoses youve read about. A cocaine addict can have a massive heart attack off the same amount they’ve always taken.

The dude was a junkie and that’s all there’s is to it. It’s sad but drugs are a mofo. Normal people if confronted would choose their baby girl over drugs. Not junkies. Junkies will always pick the drugd
it's called an addiction, asshole. lots of people want to get clean for their loved ones, but it's an ADDICTION, that takes hold and will send u into withdrawal that feels 10000x worse than the drugs ever could, if u were to suddenly stop. then there's those that do get clean, but bad stuff happens to make them relapse just once and that's all it takes. don't label everyone as a useless junkie unless u know them and their story personally. i promise u, very very few do drugs for fun. most addicts do want to get clean.
Anyone being a "junkie" is not all there is to it, every addict has a story and many, many of them are in a constant battle with that addiction. You must be very young or just an ass to think the way you do. Addiction is not a choice. Starting the use of a substance is a choice but those situations are hardly clear cut themselves. Learn compassion. You don't need to bring or keep an addict in your life but you can stop pushing such an ignorant rhetoric
Exactly I see a lot of people trying to make it some romantic story blah blah . Dude had a heart attack because he did too much Coke. All these people that don’t know doing drugs and overdoses ect. They wanna make it into some Bradley Nowell-sequel chi behind the music story. “didn’t have the same tolerance bc he was sober” yadda yadda🤦♂️
You sound so ignorant with absolutely no idea how addiction works. No addict would “choose” drugs over family just because they feel like it. It alters your entire brain chemistry and you literally can’t control it. Don’t talk shit on an experience you know absolutely nothing about.

it's called an addiction, asshole. lots of people want to get clean for their loved ones, but it's an ADDICTION, that takes hold and will send u into withdrawal that feels 10000x worse than the drugs ever could, if u were to suddenly stop. then there's those that do get clean, but bad stuff happens to make them relapse just once and that's all it takes. don't label everyone as a useless junkie unless u know them and their story personally. i promise u, very very few do drugs for fun. most addicts do want to get clean.
“Normal people …if confronted, would choose their baby girl over drugs…”Huh? “Confronted” by what? What do you mean mein?
Thank you for this
Or it could’ve been him that stole the money
