You’ve had your first taste of radio friendly commercial sounding Megadeth.. It’s still Megadeth their style and energy is still all there.. There’s some great stuff that came out of this period when it came to expanding Megadeths sound. Cryptic Writing was Megadeths 7th album (Rust is their 4th) Some fun facts.. Dave plays this live with a twin neck guitar. It’s epic! Trust is their first song to ever get number 1 on radio when it was released.. The other singles off the album did well.. But not as well as Trust.. Their following album Risk went a little to much in the direction of radio for most fans and isn’t very popular.. It has good songs on it.. But not songs you really want Megadeth to be putting out.. The album after that they went back to Metal and continued from that album to now releasing better and better albums as they go.. Their latest album Dystopia (2016) is probably in their top 5 best albums.. Obviously that depends on your tastes but I think it’s their most well thought though album since the mid 90s in terms of focus and quality. They are working on a new album right now but because of Mustaines throat cancer there has been a slight slowing down on that front while he gets that sorted.. So it’s looking like a 2020 release. 4 years between release.. Making it the longest wait for a Megadeth album ever. 😬🤣 I’m patient though.. I can wait for as long as it takes.. I know it will be worth it.. They are on a roll right now as well because of the success of the last album and it’s high quality.. It’s aggressive for sure. It’s not as fast as other albums like Rust or parts of Endgame.. It’s more like Peace Sells but modern.. Different but more in that realm.. You’ll understand when you get to it.. There’s no rush.. Megadeth have about 200 songs.. Very few can be considered ‘bad’ and even then you might like them.. Your not a dye in the wool Metalhead so it could work for you. It’s usually the hardcore metal guys that hate the stuff off Risk and Super Collider.. The more open minded enjoy it for what it is.
Great comment. I agree with everything you said. Also want to add that they won their first Grammy with Dystopia. Dave is doing well from what I have been reading, so hopefully we get that new album soon, I get excited with anticipation.
Beautiful analysis! I agree with you at the end that there was less focus on guitar solos and the rhythm guitar riffs where the main focus on albums like Cryptic Writings and Metallica’s Load & Reload 👍🏼👏🏼
Megadeth has such a deep catalogue and many albums have their own unique sound. Check out the follow up to "Rust in Peace" called "Countdown to Extinction" The more popular singles from the album were "Sweating Bullets" and Symphony of "Destruction" but it also had fast, heavy + melodic songs like "Skin of My Teeth" Can't wait until you sink you teeth into more. Glad you enjoyed it. This was their biggest single from the album (and it was a single-heavy album) The fastest songs on the album are Vortex, FFF, Disintegrators
you have to react ASAP to " the skull beneath the skin", from their first album " killing is my business...and business is good". raw production and the true sound of megadeth. is mind blowing. it's from 1985 and no one was playing like them at that time. jazzy/thrash/ speed state of the art metal

This is my favorite out of all of Megadeth's "pop" songs. As you said the chorus is fantastic. Another more radio friendly track that I love is the song "Countdown to Extinction" off the album of the same name.
The new Insomnium has great atmosphere too 'Pale morning star'. The latest Megadeth CD is pretty good. For Megadeth thrashing in the 2000s check out 'Blackmail the universe'.

@@TheAdventuresofTNT I'm looking forward to you getting into "So Far, So Good... So What!" That was my alarm clock for a large survey crew many years ago.
Cryptic Writings was a highly underrated album. It came out in 1997 during the dark days of American heavy metal and it didn't get the exposure it probably deserved. There's a lot of good songs on it. Check out a few more. I think you'll love the vibe this album has.
I have seen that you have checked out many more Megadeth songs, but here are a few I haven’t seen reactions to, that you might enjoy. I would suggest A Tout Le Monde (The version from 2007, featuring Cristina Scabbia) from United Abominations, The Hardest Part of Letting Go/Sealed With a Kiss from Endgame and Thirteen, the title track from Thirteen. All are a bit more melodic, but Thirteen, I feel, is massively underrated.
You should also check out Testament, my favorite thrash band, they have evolved so much from their early days, but damn near everything is really good from them.
Ok, both Gar and Menza died, I was actually thinking of "In my darkest hour" that Dave wrote for Cliff Burton (Metallicas bassist) after he died. Lot of deth. And Yeah Cryptic Writings and Risk was the record company trying to capitalize on mettalicas success with their transition into mainstream metal. It sucks because that pressure to compete with the mainstream and the decline of the solos in Megadeth songs led to Marty's departure from the band.
Wasnt the record company.. dave wanted to go that way. He said risk should ve been a solo album. He knew it was to soft for megadeth fans but he got the guys with him do... marty was absolutely behind this first there were interviews... and yes cryptic is different but a great album... risk has some good tracks still, if you dont expect thrash... world needs a hero was like picking up the old stuff again.. i say theres no bad megadeth album... just be open. I come from the mid 80s Hardcore punk scene and aldo grew up with thrash.. Strange, if xou look at voivod fans, we love the guys for being diverse... or Rush, same thing.. but straight metal heads are very caught within certain patterns or call it clische... Good music is good music.. now i put on death... ;)

0:20. 💯 The late ‘80s/early ‘90s was no doubt the pinnacle for hard rock and heavy metal music. Granted this track is from ‘97, hence the less phenomenal guitar solo.
I'm a new subscriber & that's one fabulous review-- I LOVE your video background during the guitar solo!!! By the way, you remarked on Dave Mustaine's growly vocal style-- As a founding member of Metallica, he was surely influenced by James Hetfield.
I really enjoy your analysis of metal songs. As for metal songs that deal with breakups, I'd like to suggest "The Prosecution" by The Haunted. The Haunted doesn't get enough consideration in my opinion. They have a great catalogue, but if you feel like channeling the anger from a soured relationship, by all means give it a go!
@@crimsonmenace7733 Yeah, the 80s get a bad rap everyone thinks all the metal was glam back then but really the 80s had the best metal by far,not even a debate.
This album is to mainstream! Trust me you have to check out the 3 albums before Rust in peace. You will hear how talented, hungry, and angry Dave was. The dedication to make the best thrash album that year!
Megadeth lite - I use this song to introduce those who would resist even listening to a band named 'Megadeth'. "Who is this?",.......I crack a demon smile and wryly reply, Megadeth. They're hooked even if they don't admit it then.
Earlier songs from Megadeth you should check out: In My Darkest Hour; Wake Up Dead; The Conjuring. Songs after Rust in Peace: Architecture of Aggression; Sweating Bullets; Angry Again; The Disintegrators; Tout le Monde; Train of Consequences; Play for Blood; I could go on and on.
dead horse like asrielle. Underground band from Texas. Made a few albums in that time era. Rich in tone, not so commercialize. Rigormortis was another favorite band if mine. Slow death, die in pain, or worms of the earth from their ep. Wouldnt expect a reaction, but you might like it. Dig your channel. Cleaner sound i liked overkill horoscope, playing w/spiders skullcrusher ,time to kill.
I have thought of two other songs. Early on, Dave did a lot of covers and some songs for movie soundtracks, as well. His cover of Anarchy in the UK (The Sex Pistols) is awesome and worth a listen, but his best cover, off of the Shocker soundtrack is No More Mr. Nice Guy (Alice Cooper). He performed this in the midst of lineup changes between the So Far, So Good, So What and Rust in Peace recordings. Nick had joined the band, but Marty had not, yet joined. This is a ripping song and the guitar is all Dave Mustaine. I always loved that Dave has never had an ego in featuring the other guitarist in the band, but doing this without another guitarist shows what you already know. He is as good as any metal guitarist ever.
as a casual listener, metallica suits people more but megadeth... damn dave mustaine is a genius
Geniusly insane
Loving both bands, I always wonder what Metallica would have been like it Dave stayed their guitarist.

I was pulled over on a northern Alberta highway by a girl who wanted to smoke a doob. I was listening to this song when she got in my truck and she said "I freakin love Megadeth". 6 weeks later we were in Rome, Italy watching Megadeth open for Slayer.
Megadeth forever!
That’s fuckn awesome! Thank you for sharing your story!

I'm looking forward to you getting into "So Far, So Good... So What!"
That was my alarm clock for a large survey crew many years ago.
Adam Worden yea man . I’m loving this megadeth journey
As a teen with a cd player going to school I vividly remember having this cd popped in the majority of the time
Agree with so many others here. You HAVE to do In My Darkest Hour. That's my all-time favorite Megadeth jam. That opening is legendary.
My favorite megadeath song . Honesty to a fault built in a metal song.
MEGADETH!!! My absolute favorite! But I have to say, other than "Rust".....Youthanasia is my favorite album and often overlooked??
this is a great album
Most of Cryptic Writings, was about breakups.
Super underrated song by them! Love it!
Listening to it now for the reasons you describe. It is working. That and Y and Ts Mean Streak. Different styles, but both help scratch that itch.
Cryptic Writings was a highly underrated album. It came out in 1997 during the dark days of American heavy metal and it didn't get the exposure it probably deserved. There's a lot of good songs on it. Check out a few more. I think you'll love the vibe this album has.
Another fantastic song off the album cryptic writing . No question.
OR "ADDICTED TO CHAOS"....TY BIG JIM...BTW MY WHOLE LEFT SHOULDER HAS MEGADETH'S SYMBOL VIC RATTLEHEAD TATTED.
Dope!!!!
☠️ MEGADETH ☠️
MASTER MUSICIANS 🎸
PERFECTIONISTS OF THEIR CRAFT
🖤 I LOVE MEGADETH 🖤
I think Menza was still in Megadeth back then. Great song, love your videos🤘
Megadeth are in a different league to most metal bands...
You should also check out Testament, my favorite thrash band, they have evolved so much from their early days, but damn near everything is really good from them.
this one goes to my top 20 favorite song list... for sure
It sucks because that pressure to compete with the mainstream and the decline of the solos in Megadeth songs led to Marty's departure from the band.
wow!
Good music is good music.. now i put on death... ;)
@@jensbaumann6945 omg, now death is my favorite band. You ever listen to Chucks second band; control denied?
@@zachariahcook703 one of my favorite metal bands too... next to megadeth voivod...
I tried control denied several times... i love the music, chuck was a genius... generations of musicians using his scales. But i dont get the voice.. and really i tried hard to love it;)
@@jensbaumann6945 it took me a while to get used to the new singers voice, I liked chucks screams on Symbolic and Perseverance the best. I think I have a voivod tape but I haven't listened to them since high school. I'm soley a record guy now and voivods originals are a little hard to find. Nothingface is the tape I have
Listen to never walk alone from the United abominations album. Incredible riffs lyrics and raised quite a stir with its pro Christian lyrics.
lates cd was in 2016 is call Dystopia and is amazing
Cryptic Writings is such an underrated album! Good pic!!
You need to hear Countdown To Extinction and Ashes In Your Mouth. Amazing songs everyone sleeps on
Great song. You should listen Megadeth - "Evil Thats Within" is a demo of "Sin" which the same album Crytic Writings
Yes
One thing that some people don't understand is that metal doesn't have to always be thrashy or fast it can be slow paced and still be a banger.
0:20. 💯 The late ‘80s/early ‘90s was no doubt the pinnacle for hard rock and heavy metal music. Granted this track is from ‘97, hence the less phenomenal guitar solo.
Megadeth is indeed better than Metallica! Check out Go To Hell from the Hidden Treasures album :)
That album is a little gem! My favorite 99ways to die...
Even the covers are grest
and from Shocker.. No More Mr Nice Guy
Even "Breakpoint" that also was on the super mario bros. movie sound track is a banger
Angry again the best
99 ways to die, thats some serious stuff pal.
You gotta do Kick the Chair, bro. I've been requesting that song for over 2 years and no one has done it yet.
hahahah... don't worry bro, I got you. I'm loving this Megadeth journey. Everything I've heard from them has been fucking gold!
why did you have to pop into my "recommendations" at 1130pm? I'm going to be here all night :)
80s Megadeth and Metallica is the way to go,best metal ever created.
Don't do it like that anymore man and to have lived during that is a priceless thing
LoL one day your lady will rock a MegaDeth shirt.
Please check out In my Darkest Hour by Megadeth. It’s so emotionally powerful!
Megadeth lite - I use this song to introduce those who would resist even listening to a band named 'Megadeth'. "Who is this?",.......I crack a demon smile and wryly reply, Megadeth. They're hooked even if they don't admit it then.
Go on with symphony of destruction... but the that one night version thats some really good crowd doing their stuff.
Megadeth - She Wolf (Live, Rude Awakening) watch Dave in action killin shit
Check out Looking Down the Cross from their first album. I promise you'll love it.
I've never realised how similar the bass line is to U2"s "New Year"s Day".
Megadeth - Mechanix 🤘🤘
dead horse like asrielle.
