    Thanks for the video. After watching your video, I got my 1377 out to shoot into a 1/2 inch (ca. 5 centimeters) pine board to test for wadcutter penetration.
    That is what I use as my "poor boy" way to measure pellet energy. When I shot the wadcutter into the board with 3 pumps, it dented the wood about 1/3 of the pellet length and the pellet bounced away harmlessly, however, with 4 pumps, the pellet buried into the wood coming to rest with the end of the skirt flush with the surface of the board.
    I suspect the pellet compressed to the front of the skirt.
    If I have any small rodent pests to eliminate, I will use 4 pumps as a minimum and Crosman 7.9 pointed pellets.
    My all-time most useful .177 pellet is the Crosman 7.9 pointed pellet.
    Second place goes to the "bulldog"/domed pellet.
    I added the carbine stock to my pistol.
    If you don't mind answering a question, I would like to know
    which rear sight is your favorite on this pistol?

      Mine is still completely unmodified, and I'm using the square notch. But with the buttstock I prefer to flip the insert over and use the peep portion. I bore the hole a bit larger to allow more light to pass.
      That's what I did with my Backpacker before I upgraded to the metal breech and added a homebuilt peep sight.
      Crosman Custom Shop sells a really neat rear peep sight for the metal breech; I think it's made by Williams. They're about $60 though. But that's probably the best sight I've seen for them.

      @@Possumliving Thanks for the fast reply. Mine is unmodified also and that's the way I like it. I need to shoot all of my airguns more.
      When Y2K was looming on the horizon I overbought on my BB and pellet supply. I know I have a lifetime supply, however, they make good barter items if times get hard.
      Always good to visit with you in the comments or watching your videos. Steve

      @@Possumliving Hi, I just found your reply. I was looking around on Amazon at the Daisy pointed pellets you get. The prices are really high. Walmart prices seem normal to me.
      I enjoy being able to find out things from you that I have not had any experience in.
      I have another question, do you think the NAA Black Widow or a small pocket pistol would be the better, "Get Off Me Gun?"
      I think the NAA could be "fumble prone."
      Steve.

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephen8433 Yeah, Amazon prices can fluctuate quite a bit. If the price is high, I just keep watching until it comes down again. I can usually get pellets cheaper than Walmart that way.
      The NAA can indeed be fumble prone. For a get off me gun, I think the Ruger LCR snubby (not the LCRx with its exposed hammer) is as good as it gets. They're made in .38 Special, .357 Mag, 9mm, .327 Fed, .22 LR and .22 Mag. I think any of those would work. Mine is a .357, but I actually wouldn't mind having one in .22 Mag too.

    Love your review - thanks, your calm voice and style make it easy and clear to follow. I have perhaps ten of these 1377/1322/2289's - most from pawn shops but I too got the $38 deal and a few ytears ago got a $59 2289- zombie kit - the 2289 and the new [old style] 1377 have steel breaches. I build these guns up - 24" barrels for quiteness, 4x12 x 40 AO scopes for old/blind etc. give them as gifts - now have three friends that Grackle hunt only with 1377's [their Gamo springers and nitro piston guns are unused [too loud, inaccurate and hard to shoot. We're at 3,400 feet but I never use more than 5 or 6 pumps. Always oil the piston [each 50 shos or so] any oil - like Marvel Mistery oil. With old eyes and good scope I shoot 50 feet with nickle size groups and 5 pumps / any medium weight pellet [7 to 10 grains]. Guns like the Daisy flat nose [at 4 to 5 pumps - not more and up to 40 feet is best. Winchester round nose at 5 pumps to 50 feet or more [my range is a 55 foot space]. The Crosman Competition pellets always do well and are about $5.25/500 at Academy Sporting goods. Also the Predator Polymag standard length [haven't used the new short version] do really well and the red point dosen't slide off the Grackle feathers very often. Yesterday bought a nice pawn shop 1377 for just under $25 [with tax] - needed oil and sight adjustment - shoots well but trigger is heavy and rough [will fix soon]. Agree the old gun is fine, never pinch my hand - put felt [ about 1/4" pad] under the pump handle [glued to the pump tube. Fix the loose barrel problems, twisting, leaking and vertical/horizonmtal loosness with Loctite GO2 glue - clear, easy to use, easy to remove - check this out, thanks

      John Brewer Thanks for the great comments and information.
      I use non-detergent 30 wt motor oil in my pumpers; I have it on good authority that is what Crosman Pellgunoil is.

      @@Possumliving That is my understanding as well. Also, I have heard that Hoppe's gun oil is USP Mineral Oil. Get it at Walmart or wherever. It is non-toxic.

    Interesting. I bought a 1322 (same gun in .22) a couple months ago from Amazon here in Canada, it came in a plastic "blister" package, I like the way yours came in a cardboard box.

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      314299 Shooting Channel Yeah, I like the cardboard much better. "Frustration-free packaging" is what Amazon called it. They had it listed both ways, and the blister pack was actually a couple dollars more. Usually it's the other way around, if you even get a choice.

      @Possumliving  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      314299 Shooting Channel BTW, aren't you limited to 500 fps in Canada? If so, I guess the .177 version isn't available there. Or maybe it is but has a restricted transfer port.

      Possum Living The .177 version available in Canada is the 1377C, it has been limited to 495 fps, from what I recall there is some sort of extra spring valve that opens if you pump it "too much".

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chris knevil I think I'm gonna get some heavier pellets and see what they do. Crosman makes some roundnose .177s that weigh 10.5 grains. Short barrels favor heavier pellets, in the same way that a .38 snubbie favors heavy bullets.

    • @3289970
      @3289970 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At 5 pumps your gun is good enough , with regular weight pellets. But like Elmer said heavy bullets go through the fur twice.

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      chris knevil Man, you got that right!
      BTW, I've been shooting it in the living room tonight. That's one of the things I like about it: you can shoot it just about anywhere.

  • @daneduffy4156
    @daneduffy4156 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, cocking before pumping has no effect on air entry into valve,the hammer rest on the exhaust valve it does not open it until hammer hits it, when you cock hammer,exhaust valve is seated so air entry into valve from pumping comes in past the check valve, you cannot have pressure off exhaust valve or air will escape thru transfer port and out barrel. I do not know where you came up with that idea, it makes no sense. Thank You

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dane Duffy Cocking it takes the pressure of the hammer spring off the exhaust valve. In a power-modded valve the valve spring can be weaker than the hammer spring. With a valve like that you cannot pump it up without cocking it first.

    I have the same pistol got it today at Walmart on clearance for 35.00 one thing I noticed was it has some slop / play left to right on the pump handle when it's opened and fully extended is that normal for this gun? my 392 doesn't do that.

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's normal. The bushing at the end of the air tube is plastic, so it's not very rigid. It holds up fine, though.

    • @NotSoDumb
      @NotSoDumb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 10.5gr. pemiers are ok but not really that good. I've heard lots of people touting shooting premieres in Crosman guns is always good but I hate to differ.
      I've weighed, measured and testing lots of Crosman pellets and I find too many fliers and groups that don't impress me at all.
      In my opinion, might I suggest trying JSB Match Pellets at 7.33, 7.87, 8.44 grain or their 10.34gr, which I find to be the best grouping pellets in my 1377.
      I've not found a pellet in the Crosman line that weighs what they say they are, they're always under in weight.
      That, and you'll find the skirts vary in size from tight to loose and that has a terrible effect on accuracy.
      All of the JSB pellets have out performed everything else for me in all my pumpers, springers and nitro pistons.
      Hope this helps.

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +NotSoDumb Thanks; that's good info. The 18.1 grain JSB is my go-to .22 pellet for accuracy and hunting. It stands to reason that they would make the best .177 pellet as well.
      I use CPHP for plinking with my .22s because I have decent results with them in a variety of guns, and I can find them for less than half the price of the JSBs.
