Let's be honest, we're all kinda shocked and surprised that you've never played Starsector, but welcome: You'll like it here! Welcome to Starsector! One of a handful of games I have actually never regretted spending money on, and it has only gotten better and better over the years. Actually 1000% value. 😛
I backed this ages ago, played it for a week, forgot about it, wanted to play it but forgot it's name, gave up, a YEAR later this video appears in my feed, now I know it's name again. What a wild ride.
This game is awesome. I just discovered it a few days ago. Loving it so far. One of the best space strategy\tactical\strategic pg games I have every played.
Yes!!!! I’ve been watching you for years and I’m so happy your covering star sector. It’s an amazing game - one of my favorites and it has one of, if not the best modding community ever. Truly, those guys are the best.
Once you touch the official top 10 mods for Starsector, you will be in helium voice mode. Believe it. It is a completely different world. Those guys are real Top Notch, they should be devs themselves.
@@dariusgray5845 it's easy for me. Don't update/download the new version of the game, until the mods you want gets updated or confirmed they are compatible with the new version (meaning you just change the version code in the lines). That's what I do.
This feels like the kind of game I would have got into before my son came along… and the kind of game I’ll absolutely get into once he’s left home. So a couple of years or so.
Great game. You should also check "Nexerelin" mod. A must-have mod that adds 4X game features in Starsector (dynamic wars, diplomacy, alliances), more things to do (mine planets and asteroids, ground combat, espionage, prisoners mechanics, etc) and events to see.
@@deathscreton its up to date with 0.97 now as are a lot of the other megamods or overhauls tbh. Games lit with mods but becomes dope af with nex + aotd + grand colonies and industrial evolution. Not sure if anyone else already mentioned it but you can right click on the map screen to lay in a course, you don't need to hold left click every time.
Early on the reason you got away with sneaking up to the pirate base was because your fleet was so powerful that small patrols run from you. If you have a big enough stick in Starsector you can get into places that would normally try to keep you out. Though if you'd have attacked that patrol the pirates would close their port to you for a few weeks until the ruckus dies down.
Woot you took the leap! The base game is well worth the selling price and the wealth of mods make it so much more if you plan to continue. At the least I would recommend Nexerelin as it adds 4x mechanics to the base adventure style game. There are so many more utility and faction mods but they are a subjective choice I would leave to you.
it'd be awesome if the devs put more in depth boarding actions in the game for ships/stations/colonies. something thats a simple emulation of the space combat but for your marines, basic movement and attack controls as another layer of immersion, would be really cool
The Dev is undeniably passionate about their game, but they are also really smart with how they handle developement. The game has very few bugs despite not being finished. If something isn't fun, it gets reworked. The "Colony Crises" mechanic used to kinda suck, but it got completely overhauled in the last update. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say it's really really good now. If something is unbalanced, it gets small nerfs or buffs until it properly fits its role in the game. And all this is less than half of the praise I wanted to give Starsector. Best $15 I ever spent.
I did not followed your content but it is good to see many youtuber finds out what games exists beyond the small scope. A lot of good games out there with small to no recognition. The only thing is this game is singleplayer only but It could work well as a multiplayer game too. Mods are making it even better and actually added a lot to my game and made few for myself as well. It can helps a lot to making your own game if you examine how the systems work and made.
Oh very awesome that you're enjoying the game! If you ever feel like expanding the game's variety there are an enormous number of high quality mods and a very active modding community to provide even more flavor to the game.
The absolute best space sim on the market. Such a shame the dev won’t put it up on steam. Best 20 bucks I’ve spent on a game and the updates and mods keep it fresh and I have at least a few hundred hours on this gem

Not strictly true according to the FAQ on the Starsector website: Putting the game on Steam is something I want to look at when the game is more or less “done”. It’s a complicated decision for various reasons - there are upsides and downsides, and it’s not something you can easily try and then back out of.
I bought this game awhile ago and have been hankering to get into it - but always come up with an excuse that I have to do some other stuff before getting into it (if that makes any sense). Thanks for the video. Look forward to seeing more videos on the game. Might get me to actually find the time to play it!
I just got back into it. I play the combat portion of the game with a gamepad I use WASD to put enough of the keys on my xbox controller. I have 2 planets so far and gonna have to defend my planets tonight from a pirate raid. I like playing it like a 4x light game. Best part about the game is you can play it a million different ways. One thing always need to do is remember to save before a risky mission or a long exploration trip.
I've intentionally bought two copies of StarSector over the years because the the juicy goodness the modding community has build into this title. Modders are adding factions, missions, monsters, map/terrain features, etc. etc. The 4x/emergent changes that Nexerelin adds...and we're only talking about a single mod. I've high hopes that v1.0 will include a core campaign that makes this title a slam dunk release that it deserves to be.
If you like this game, you should also try the "Endless Sky" game. It's a top-down spaceship flight game where you can trade, fight, do missions, mine, and explore. And it's free and open-source!
Wow versy similar to Cosmoteer, its similar in that it's 2D but more focused on micromanagement crew and systems inside the ships you design and build your self. Really love that game. The way it handles resource gathering is nice too. Kill pirate ships, dismantle them for materials and components and the likes.
This sort of game not my cup of tea, these days, but thanks for covering it, @OA - Always good to see what's out there, even if it has been out for a good while. 👍
In the autofit screen click on the ship templates labeled 'assault', 'strike' etc. instead of 'Spend free OP' to make the game fit weapons and mods for different pruposes as well, not just putting the free OP in capacitors and vents :)

The modding community is great.. replay-ability becomes high. My only beef with the game is it relies on Java but there are guide to install on UT.
