I remember reading about the 427 Cobra when I was 15. They said some Hollywood celebrities were buying them but Carroll Shelby made them take some driving instruction before they took them. I never drove one, but they were on another level in terms of power to weight. Even today they are a monster. Great job, no matter replica, beautiful car.
I guy I knew professionally who bought a real aluminum bodied continuation Cobra about 15-20 years back. It had a stroker FE around 480 ci with an aluminum block and made around 585 HP. The car weighed around 2400 lbs if my memory is correct. Got to ride in it one time. To say it was brutal is an understatement. It would spin those huge road racing tires at anything more than about 1/2 throttle all the way into third gear. You definitely had to drive that thing with a lot of respect.
That 427 Cobra is a beast!! The HP to weight factor is insane, a true drivers car, not for the weak hearted. Nick & Manny really enjoyed driving the 427 Cobra, lots of smiles/gallon. Great video, I hope that you guys have a great week
@@NicksGarage Not many people can say that they have driven a 427 Cobra, the Holy Grail of performance cars back in the 60's, 0 - 100, and back to 0 in 10 seconds, just awesome. I just loved the video seeing Nick & Manny behind the wheel having fun!
The smiles on Nick & Manny's faces said it all. You could literally see the young guys come back in them proving that Boys don't grow up--They just grow old! That thing sounds awesome!! It was pretty cool getting a Leo sighting as well.
I heard about them in the late 60's I think. Expensive back then and not many were made. Total raw power! Glad to see this one running even as a replica. Good Job Nick!
I had a friend that I worked with years ago that built one with a Small Block Ford 347ci. He took me for a ride in it. WOW... I fell in love with these cars immediately. The sound of the engine was amazing. I looked down on the side of the car and there was the exhaust pipe outlet. I will never forget that day that I got to ride in one. For anybody that's interested, the Superformance Company has a website that lists all their dealers and models, including the Cobra coupes. The new cars come complete except for the engine and transmission; you can put in anything your heart desires. Speed costs money... how fast do you wanna go..? One got sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ a couple years that had a stroker 427 Cammer that got fitted in. They also have some used Cobras for sale as well. I think their cars are fiberglass-bodied. There is a company in Utah that makes metal-bodied Cobras, I think copper, brass or aluminum. When you've got 500 (+) hp in a 2200 pound car, exciting things can happen quickly
I always heard those cobras were the scariest car to drive back in the day due to power to weight ratio that thing is a monster what a great show and always great camera work by George
That was alot of fun because it feels like a proper closing chapter to the story. If you get the chance to wrap up a project like that again, I sure would appreciate it.
Back in 2001, in NW Houston (The Woodlands) my friend Andreas Magdeburg built a Superformance Cobra with a stroker 460/540 BBF with 15:1 compression. Set up for dragracing. We went from the feeder road up onto I-59N at part throttle and it was so fast we stopped accelerating at around 100mph and I didn't even have a sec to process what had just taken place. Totally Savage!
Thanks for the ride Nick & Manny, George great filming. Nick that is one ride one has to show respect when driving for sure after recently driving a stroked out 302 to 347 cub's but the standard body, silver in colour. My favourite Ford is the Thunderbird and fitted with the continental kit. Have a great week Nick, Team & All.
I have a Factory 5 Mark III replica with an Edelbrock fuel injected 5 liter engine. It has plenty of power, and is a LOT of fun to drive. You do have to respect the power for its weight though. It has a tendency to want to get squirrelly if the pavement isn't exactly smooth and level. And being a home built car, I find that I'm having to fix or modify things on it frequently. Still, I LOVE driving it!
Beautiful car. I always wanted to see an original. I 'worked' on an original GT40. The owner wanted the oil sensor on the pan tightened. I asked him if I could jack the bumper a bit so I could get a second jack under the car. He let me sit in it. All I remember was a pop-riveted aluminum interior, a very uncomfortable seat, and a windsheild that banged my forehead if I moved wrong. Loved that era.
lt is red and it will kill you dead if you drive it to fast.....Cause it is a 427 Ford Cobra at Nick's Garage today.....Thank you Nick Manny & George the camera guy..... Old F-4 pilot Shoe🇺🇸
That car reminds me of my last Yenko, it was fun to drive for about 45 minutes, then it became work. When they have that kind of power, it’s a handful, my Yenko was pretty highly modified.
In the early sixties, when there were no Fords over 400c.i. , the 390 was available with 400+ HP. That's what the late sixties Mustang and FairlanesGTs should have had instead of an anemic version.
It's super tight & very streetable that Cobra one of the better replica's I'm sure. One car I would pass on going for a ride in & that scares me are T-Buckets .., great video guys. 🏆🏆🏆
Cobra's are beasts. The original Cobra's suffered from severe understeer but also suffered with a severe power induced oversteer, which made them a challenge to drive
Well, this was a treat for sure (no tricks) and the 427 Cobra lives up to its name. It would have been great to see you stretch her legs on a highway but I understand the limitations for doing that. Thanks for sharing it with us!
I am in danger of jealosy! I have no idea if I would even fit in a Cobra, but I would sure love to try! Amazing cinematography and editing! Thank you for the video!
There's something about a 427 Ford that's just an amazing miracle,, that big ol weird ass push rods through the intake beast which was designed just to have a quiet big car torque production motor wound up doing all that it did in racing...
This is why I love Nick‘s garage although he has his preferences if you follow along enough, you’re going to see a little bit of everything. And when something is presented. It arrived in pieces but now it's in rude health Waow a 427 Shelby Cobra replica endorsed by Shelby himself The knock offs were ceased cuz knock offs can't be greased but there's a tool for every job and Manny found a kit that wouldn't be out of place in a race track pit At Nick's Garage they ensure original parts are never broken or split Anyone would drive a car like this with pride Now it's time that Nick and Manny go for a ride Thanks Nick George and Manny Congratulations Eugene
I'm not a Ford fan but my favorite is the '69 Mach 1, a friend had one back in the late 70's, he built a 390 for it, on Friday leaving work he'd jump on it and it literally leaped and hopped down the road in all 4 gears, what a wild ride. Now that you've driven a Cobra, you really need to drive an asphalt Whelen tour Modified, you think the Cobra was a thrill, personally, I think the Modified would out do it.
