    I read Mindset a few years ago and had a very intense experience reading it. On the one hand, I took the tip of adding "yet" to the end of phrases to heart and have loved that technique. "I don't know how to do that... yet". "I really don't enjoy exercise... yet." That was an important and quick step that I've valued implementing in my life. But on the other hand, the tone I took from the fixed mindset sections read as "it's your fault if you're a fixed mindset person". I was deeply hurt to be told by an expert that being afraid to take risks was a moral failure on my part. It could be I projected those ideas onto the book, but I found myself thinking over and over, "I was raised this way! It isn't my fault!" That hurt and defensiveness made it really hard to take much of the rest of the book to heart.

      So sorry to hear about your experience with the book! Experiencing fear is certainly not a moral failure. The book may not have resonated for you, and that’s okay. However, growth mindset itself is an absolute game changer when it comes to changing our behaviors, habits, and lives. I encourage you to continue exploring this concept if you are interested in making changes of any kind!
      To get a little “meta” for a moment - it’s totally possible that in order to grow a growth mindset, you might need to start with developing a growth mindset ABOUT growing a growth mindset.
      For instance, do you believe that having a fixed mindset is something you can change? If not, the first step could be to challenge the idea that your fixed mindset is locked into place. (In fact, we have many clients who start exactly there, and through the use of cognitive tools and practice, are able to develop growth mindsets that they can then apply to lots of different areas.)
      I love the example you gave of adding “yet” onto the end of places you see fixed mindset cropping up. What if we took that same concept with the thought, “I was raised this way”? What if we just added onto the end? Then, it might become, “I was raised to have a fixed mindset… BUT, that is something I can work on.”
      That would be one way for you to use an existing skill to begin developing a growth mindset ABOUT your mindset. How would something like that feel?

    I like self help books for entertainment. Yes, I have taken action on things I have read in previous self help books. Not sure if I’m searching for broad understanding.

    I have gone through more than 20+ Self help books and tbh liked Atomic Habits, Mindset, Psychology of Money, etc. But the most difficult part is put the things from the book into actions..

    i'm reading how to change by Katy , stuck at chapter 2 xD, i was amazed how many praise she got from people that I knew and read before, like duhigg, heat, thaler, daniel pink, DWECK, adam grant , duckworth, seth godin, CIALDINI etc,
    soooooooo many people recommend Essentialism everywhere, It feels almost like that book is stalking me, time to get my copy.
    Dewck with her Mindset in my opinion was water down too much for the masses, although I read it quite long time ago, but if you're saying it hasn't been updated 15 years, there is probably no point re-reading it

    What is the main reason why you read self-help books?

    • @rizwansheikh7663
      @rizwansheikh7663 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because I want to be an expert knowledge-wise in the personal development niche; As a copywriter.
      P.S. This confidence comes from my INFJ personality types from 16 worldwide.

      I am dissatisfied with my personality and want to change it. I tend to sabotage myself with some of my beliefs, attitudes, habits, preferences. And I believe that these traits are mutable and could be engineered to set me on the path of succeeding in personal relationships, career, fitness, and other important areas of my life.

      I made a goal to read 100 non-fiction books in 2023 AND when I'm stressed I like to learn things as a relaxation tool. Getting more knowledge=feeling a little more in control of my understanding of life. CBT tends to work well for me and I never really know where the next immensely helpful perspective is going to come from. Sometimes it's super random sentences that kind of flip a switch for me and help me avoid negative self-talk or look at things differently.
      Plus, I just found out I have had ADHD-I my entire life so I have a new unexplored personality puzzle to understand. I'm now realizing that so much of what I thought was foundational to my personality was actually just coping and masking. It's epiphany after epiphany these days.

      @@slmshdy310watch out! I also recently found out my ADHD and with that it made so much sense that I was hoarding too much information disguised as self-understanding. Try therapy for understanding your basics, otherwise it’s just a mindlessness hunt for dopamine.
