It's somewhat bizarre seeing this specific niche from this specific era of time receiving such a loving callback. It makes me feel a little old for it to be this way, but it makes me tearful and happy as well. My kid self would've thought this was insanely cool, and my adult self thinks this is extraordinarily charming and like it'd be a very fun time.

i think it's a real shame that the most remembered subsection of 2000s aesthetics are corporate design trends, same with the previous "retro" aesthetics like vaporwave and synthwave. design pioneered by execs in cushy office jobs is already most of our modern life; i don't see retrospectives of what those execs were doing a few decades ago as particularly ripe grounds for retreading. what i do see as interesting are the subcultures that emerging technology enabled. i will care infinitely more about what some weird emo kids with dubious 3d modelling skills were cooking up in some forum tucked into a little corner of another website than i will about the 6th advertising firm that wanted to rip off The Designers Republic

@@brycebucher1895 no it's absolutely positive, honestly you've played the aesthetic refreshingly free of irony from what i've seen so far! (also your game is baller and i shared it with my friends immediately after i finished the demo lol)
what i'm saying is that it's a refreshing change of pace seeing more representation (such as yours) of hobbyist-made period aesthetics, as opposed to the current fixation on advertisement and other consumer-oriented historic design trends. hobbyist art, especially early 3D work, is inherently less documented, and it's nice to see it celebrated in this way!
